The Lions shocked the high school boys basketball scene with a big one-sided upset in a Division I regional final March 20, 71-45. ---- Everyone in the standing-room-only Ohio Expo Center Coliseum expected a good game, probably a great game when Northland met Gahanna Lincoln in the Division I Region 3 final Saturday, March 20. The Vikings were undefeated and the No 1-ranked boys basketball team in not only the state, but also the country, and the Golden Lions, also undefeated, were Ohio's DI No. 2-ranked squad. But hardly anyone expected an outcome like this. Gahanna, which utilized its quickness, shot lights out, making 23 of its 38 field goal attempts (60.5 percent), and blasted Northland, the 2009 DI state champion, 71-45. "We figured we needed a little Villanova vs. Georgetown, whatever year that was," said Lions coach Tony Staib, referring to Villanova's 1985 upset of the top-ranked Hoyas. "We have tremendous shooters, and we have multiple players that can knock down threes. "A lot of things went right, but I'll tell you what, I hope everybody knows we've got a good team." The Lions (26-0), with their first-ever regional title, coming a week after their first-ever district title, will meet Massillon Jackson in the DI state semifinals at 8:30 pm Friday, March 26, at Value City Arena, in Ohio State's Schottenstein Center. "We'd been hearing it from outside the locker room at our school; my friends were betting against us," Gahanna senior guard Rob Brandenberg said of ...

With star Jimmer Fredette struggling with illness, the #23 BYU men's basketball team opened conference play with an exciting 77-73 win over the UNLV Rebels in the Marriott Center on Wednesday night. BYU was led by Noah Hartsock and Jonathan Tavernari with 17 points each. BYU led 33-30 at halftime but UNLV opened the second half with a scoring frenzy to lead 45-40 and force a BYU timeout. BYU fought hard to stay in the game, but hot shooting by UNLV had the Rebels control most of the second half. Some key UNLV turnovers, combined with huge offensive plays by BYU's trio of Michael Loyd Jr., Jonathan Tavernari, and Tyler Haws eventually propelled BYU to the come-from-behind victory. BYU is now 15-1 (1-0 in MWC play) and gets ready to renew an old WAC rivalry with UTEP on Saturday in El Paso, Texas.

Jimmer Fredette led BYU with 23 points, Jonathan Tavernari scored 14 points, and Jackson Emery was key to BYU's 87-70 win over a pesky Weber State Friday night in the Marriott Center. BYU led by as much as 14 in the first half, but Weber State chipped away to give BYU a tight 38-34 lead heading into halftime. Weber State came back to take a 43-40 lead, but a three-pointer barrage by Jackson Emery and Jimmer Fredette made the game a blow out. BYU is now 5-0 and prepares for an in-state game against the Utah State Aggies Wednesday night in Logan at the Spectrum.
The BYU men's basketball team hit the century mark as the Cougars went on to rout the Southern Jaguars 107-51 Tuesday night in the Marriott Center. All 13 players on the team scored, including Logan Magnusson and Brock Zylstra. Jackson Emery led BYU with 16 points. Chris Miles and Jonathan Tavernari each scored 14 points. BYU is now 4-0 and gets ready for an in-state rivalry game against Weber State Friday night in Provo.
www.thesportsgamer.com Some of you guys were asking me about the tourney selection show in NCAA Basketball 10. I simmed a dynasty and got to the show. It's really bare bones - esp. when compared to the show in College Hoops 2K8. I also simmed the tournament in the video and there are VERY few upsets as you can see. Also you can see that box score glitch when I tried to view a couple box scores in the first round, it posted Harvard and Columbia as the teams.
