*Warning* This video is not suitable for children. This video is the Fatal Crash of Neil Bonnett. On February 11, 1994, during the first practice session for the 1994 Daytona 500, Bonnett's car suffered a right front tire failure in the track's fourth turn. Bonnett's car hit the outside wall nearly head-on. Bonnett was taken to nearby Halifax Medical Center, but he had died on impact. He is buried in Pleasant Grove's cemetery, Forest Grove Memorial Gardens. A road called "Allison-Bonnett Memorial Drive" in his hometown is honored by him, along with fellow native Davey Allison, who died a year earlier.

Here is the crash that this race is infamous for. Ernie Irvan is laps down racing leader Ken Schrader on a restart when the two make contact and spin in front of the whole field coming off turn 4. Several cars are involved including #21 Neil Bonnett who nails #94 Sterling Marlin. Injuries from this accident would force Neil to temporarily retire from NASCAR until his return in 1993 and eventually his death in 1994. International Race Of Champions. Despite it being a 50 lap race - it came down to what was basically a 4 lap sprint to the finish ! The eighth year of IROC competition took place in 1984. IROC VIII saw the use of the Chevrolet Camaro in all races, and was the first incarnation of the current IROC format in which twelve drivers from different series compete in all four races. Races one and four took place at Michigan International Speedway, while race two took place at Burke Lakefront Airport, and race three ran on the Talladega Superspeedway. Cale Yarborough won one race en route to the championship, and took home $150000 for his efforts. A limited edition IROC Chevrolet Camaro (known as the "IROC-Z Camaro"), was manufactured in celebration and proved to be a popular car through the 80's and is still collectable even today. GoMotorBids.com purchasing manager Bob Dusselier talks about this firesuit, which was worn by the legendary Neil Bonnett during the 1983 season while driving for RahMoc-Hodgdon Enterprises. Back in those days, it was typical for most drivers to only have a few firesuits to wear throughout the year so we believe this firesuit was worn to victory during the 1983 World 600 AND the Atlanta Journal 500.
