www.emfnews.org http When brain surgeons refuse to use a cell phone without a speaker on, it says something. Maine State legislators are proposing to place cancer risk warnings on cell phones, an action that seems to confirm the relationship between cell phone radiations and cancer risks. Is radiation protection possible? What do you think? Please write to us as we want to hear from you. Los Angeles. It is true that many brain surgeons refuse to use a cell phone without turning on its speaker and placing the cell phone away, as far as possible, from the head. However, there is still no consensus among many scientists on whether the radiation from cell phones could be a contributing factor for the recent sudden increase in brain tumor patients. A Maine legislator wants to make the state the first to require cell phones to carry warnings that they can cause brain cancer, saying that numerous studies point to the cancer risk. More than 270 million people subscribed to cellular telephone service last year in the United States, an increase from 110 million in 2000, according to CTIA-The Wireless Association. While many have contended that cell phones post little risks, Dr. Ronald B. Herberman, director emeritus of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, does not seem to concur. He sent a memo to about 3000 faculty and staff members warning of risks based on early, unpublished data. He said that children should use the phones only for emergencies because their brains ...

www.emfnews.org www.emfnews.org While there's little agreement about the health hazards, Boland said Maine's roughly 950000 cell phone users among its 1.3 million residents ""do not know what the risks are."" All told, more than 270 million people subscribed to cellular telephone service last year in the United States, an increase from 110 million in 2000, according to CTIA-The Wireless Association. The industry group contends the devices are safe. ""With respect to the matter of health effects associated with wireless base stations and the use of wireless devices, CTIA and the wireless industry have always been guided by science, and the views of impartial health organizations. The peer-reviewed scientific evidence has overwhelmingly indicated that wireless devices do not pose a public health risk,"" said CTIA's John Walls. James Keller of Lewiston, whose cell phone serves as his only phone, seemed skeptical about warning labels. He said many things may cause cancer but lack scientific evidence to support that belief. Besides, he said, people can't live without cell phones. ""It seems a little silly to me, but it's not going to hurt anyone to have a warning on there. If they're really concerned about it, go ahead and put a warning on it,"" he said outside a sporting good store in Topsham. ""It wouldn't deter me from buying a phone."" While there's been no long-term studies on cell phones and cancer, some scientists suggest erring on the side of caution. Norman, Oklahoma ...

My review of the PSP Go (Pearl White) Part 3 and what my impressions of it are. I take a look at Skype, the web browser and gameplay. I love my Go for it's very small size (only slightly larger than an ipod touch) and because it is very lightweight. I can fit it in a small purse or my pocket very easily. The button redesign is perfect for my small hands, they don't cramp up (People with big hands might get cramping) but may get numb if I play for long periods of time. The smaller screen yields a sharper image than the older psps. The software is the same as the older psp models but includes Bluetooth settings which the older ones do not. Skype works great on the Go, the web browser depending on your Wifi connection does a decent job. I only have 2 UMD's, one of which is on the Playstation Network, so it was pretty easy for me to buy the Go. I do plan on buying a cheap used old psp for when I do need a UMD. Otherwise, I am very content and happy with the Go. I use it for gaming, movies, video/audio podcasts and will put some music on it too. Cons are it doesn't use a regular sony memory stick, now it uses the Sony M2 which some might already have in your cell phones. They are not as cheap as the memory sticks but the prices will probably come down in the future no doubt. You can't return games you buy obviously, nor trade/exchange or sell them. You have to be more discerning when you buy games with the Go so be careful. The usb port is not the regular one sadly but it uses ...

The Traveling Tigers documentary is inspired by globalization and its effects on the connection between people, companies and the government. The main focus is tracking and how people are now being located through many different ways. This documentary is to help people realize how easily personal information can be found and tracked. The Lexus and The Olive Tree by Thomas Friedman centers on globalization and shows how easily people are interconnected. By using Friedmans examples and tying them to the present society, one can see that his words still resonate. Tracking happens through many different ways including satellites, cell phones, Internet, online purchases and rewards cards. People have found websites that make personal information accessible to anyone with a simple credit card purchase. The Internet is used in several ways to track people, such as, online shopping and shipping purchases. When someone places an order, an e-mail is sent to them telling them their tracking number so that they can locate the specific site of their purchase. New technology, such as fingerprint scanning in retail environments, is also a potential outlet for tracking. The future might hold implantable human microchips, which could be the source of much debate. They would drastically change the lives of everyone and even how the government is run. Microchips are one of the more extreme examples of tracking, but it displays how influential the effects of tracking can be. Tracking ...

Team 3: Three Amigos Plus Four Ramsey Pursell Julia Smith Kevin Hatter Lizzy Rose Rachel Lee Sarah Cowhick Lauren Stone CAHS 2000, Section 2 April 6, 2009 Abstract Globalization has been greatly affected by the invention of the cell phone and the advancements it has made over the years. Its availability and constantly improving technology has put the world literally at our fingertips. Our way of life would be completely different if cell phones didn't exist. Our documentary covered the important aspects of how the cell phone has evolved over the years to bring globalization to new heights. Our documentary shows the evolution of the cell phone and the impact it has had on our lives and the quick advancements of globalization around the world. We focus on Apple's slogan, “stay where you are, we are coming to you,” as an exemplar of the measures cell phone companies are taking in order to further globalize other countries and level the economic playing field. This attempt by Apple allows us to reach across the world in a more efficient way. We also focus on the fact that the amount of children with cell phones is a constantly growing number. We interviewed several different generations of people to see how their lives are affected by cell phones and how much easier communication has been made due to the constantly evolving cell phone. Finally, in an attempt to clearly define globalization, we have only just begun exploring the magnitude of the importance of the cell phone ...
Globalization has affected virtually everything around the world. Through cell phones, email, and internet, information and goods can be exchanged within minutes. Some people see it as “Americanizing” everything around the world, but others see the positive improvements globalization has made in the economies and well-being of other countries. A lot of good has come from this spread of mass communication, but what about the negative aspects that come along with it? The criminal industry- drug trafficking, weapon exchange, and the trafficking of humans- also benefits from globalization. Our documentary focuses on human trafficking, and how much worse it has gotten over the years. Trading humans and using them for sex and labor is becoming easier by the minute. Over 30 million people across the world are victims of human trafficking, and the majority of those cases go unheard of. The idea that being forced into labor and sex only happens to people who deliberatly put themselves into the situation is a common misconception. It can happen to anyone; people get tricked, kidnapped, and bribed into this horrible industry every day. It is referred to as the modern-day slavery, and this term portrays the crime exactly as it should. Most people do not realize how big of a problem human trafficking has become. Through this documentary, we are trying to make this epidemic known. By showing how big of an impact globalization has had on the criminal industry, maybe we as a society can ...
Allison Nichols Chrissy Colquitt Emily Walters Mary Peavy Thera Brooks Katie OBrien CAHS 2000, Section 002 April 7, 2009 Abstract The Globalization of Cell Phones Our documentary focuses on the globalization of cell phones. The cell phone has transformed over the last few decades from a bag phone or car phone (the olive tree) to the innovative iPhone (the lexus). Cell phones are an important part of todays society because it keeps everyone connected to each other in a way that we have not had in the past. The Motorola Dyna-Tac was invented in 1973 and was only capable of 35 minutes of talk time with an outrageous 10 hour charge time. This phone was a phenomenon at the time, but in todays society we have far exceeded this invention. Today we use our cell phones for the simple purpose of calling people; in addition we can use the internet, listen to music, text message each other, take pictures, and play games. Some phones have more complex features than these. Globalization of cell phones has evolved our network from just local calls to worldwide communication. We are now able to connect to people even while at war. Cell phones are a large aspect of most peoples lives because we depend on them. If cell phones were removed from society we would not know how to properly function. Cell phones make things easier, faster with the highest levels of technology, and are a dominant part of most peoples culture around the world. Our video will show how different types of people use ...

This is a terrific story from the show Britain's Got Talent. The audience has little expectation for this cell phone salesman, Paul Potts, until he brings them to their feet with an amazing performance of an extremely difficult opera song - Puccinis Nessun Dorma. Within two minutes, Paul shows more emotion than all the contestants combined. I'm not into opera but even I had to watch this video a number of times. Biography: Paul Potts was raised in Fishponds, Bristol, by his father Roland, a bus driver, and mother, Yvonne, a supermarket cashier. Paul has two brothers and one sister, and attended St. Mary Redcliffe school where he first developed his love of singing. In the interview that was broadcast before his performance in the semi-final, Paul stated that he had trouble with being bullied in school, and that it may have had an influence on his lack of self-confidence. Until June 19, 2007 Potts worked as a manager at the Bridgend Carphone Warehouse, a mobile phone store around 8 miles from his home town. On June 9, 2007, Potts' audition of Simon Cowell's new search-for-a-star show Britain's Got Talent was televised on ITV in UK. The actual audition was held at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff on March 17, 2007. Paul sang a condensed version of Giacomo Puccini's "Nessun dorma", which impressed the judges and received a standing ovation from the audience of 2000 people. In the semi-final on June 14, 2007, Potts performed main verses of "Con te partirò" with praise ...

www.emfnews.org www.emfnews.org The Federal Trade Commission has reached a settlement with Comstar Communications, Inc. and its president, Randall A. Carasco, who marketed and sold "WaveShield," "WaveShield 1000," and "WaveShield 2000" -- so-called cell phone "radiation protection patches." Using television, radio, and Internet advertising, the defendants allegedly claimed that their products could block up to 99 percent of radiation and other electromagnetic energy emitted by cellular telephones, thereby reducing consumers' exposure to this radiation. In February 2002, the FTC issued a complaint against the West Sacramento, California-based defendants alleging that the claims were false and unsubstantiated. The order prohibits the defendants from the future marketing or selling of any product that claims to reduce consumers' exposure to radiation and electromagnetic energy, unless the claims are true and can be substantiated by competent and reliable scientific evidence. The order also prohibits the defendants from making unsubstantiated representations about the benefits, performance, or efficacy of any product or service. The settlement requires the defendants to clearly disclose that most electromagnetic energy emitted by cell phones comes from parts of the phone other than the earpiece, where the WaveShield is placed, and that the WaveShield has no significant effect on this other radiation. Additionally, the settlement prohibits the defendants from misrepresenting ...

One of the very first advertisements for Text Messaging (SMS) in New Zealand. At this stage cellphones were starting to become a must have for everyone and Vodafone was the only network where Text Messaging was possible. Telecom later introduced text messaging but wasn't available on all phones and texting between networks wasn't possible. Free text Wednesdays was a Vodafone promotion in those days.

part 5 of 5 my fav song ~ kaze no yukue (destination of the breeze) The talking voices through the cell phones in the evening are painful. Desperately searching through the jumble for the words I want. Weaving through the crowded streets to the right, then the left, Lost in a maze, but strongly desiring something at the end of the path. A gentle breeze flows through, bringing with it an early Spring. I look down from the glare and then see the tears I shed. "I am not afraid of being forgotten," I whisper. Only the moon soothed my white, aching shoulders. My countless sudden opportunities and our greatest dreams... These incomplete things were buried before they had a chance to take shape. Just like drops of water which flow over a piece of glass, We transparently meet and separate. My secret passion burns my very soul to ashes. That is because I know you were reaching for something besides me. When I see everything disappearing by the distant winter days, I can at last forget the love that is melting out of my hands. The gentle breeze dances and brilliantly colors the paths. The Season bids me to walk on and leave you behind.

Hands-free kits To learn more go to www.emfnews.org www.emfnews.org http Hands-free kits are also discussed, revealing the hidden risks. "Currently, the cellular industry are encouraging the use of hands-free kits, but cite their only advantage as being to offer greater freedom of use to the user, nothing else. The fact is they know the real reason users are buying them is because they think these kits protect them from radiation exposure. Recent tests have shown that whilst exposure to the head is reduced by around 70 percent, all that is happening is the radiation is being transferred to another part of the body which is potentially more vulnerable because it does not have the thickness of the skull to protect itself eg the waist or chest areas."74 "Commenting on the news in the British consumer magazine Which?, "theoretical physicist Dr. Zvi Weinberg said it's probable that earpieces serve as antennae that direct more electromagnetic radiation into the ears. However, he said, phone models may differ in the degree to which their internal wires conduct electricity, and said he planned to calculate the various mechanisms involved during the next two weeks."75 "It turns out that 'hands-free' cell phones may not save you from the Grim Reaper after all. Alarming claims surfaced last week in a research publication in the UK that not only are many hands-free devices useless in protecting wireless phone users from radiation that might cause tumors, these products may actually ...

Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile have disconnected cell antennas at St. Mel School. Parishioners of a Queens church and parents of its parochial school pupils were jubilant last week after two cellular phone companies unplugged 23 antenna towers from the school's roof. The years-long tug of war between the community and the companies finally ended after Sprint Nextel removed its towers from Flushing's St. Mel School, which had signed a contract in 2000 to lease roof space. The company had shared the space at 154-24 26th Ave. with T-Mobile. T-Mobile also agreed to discontinue using its antenna towers after Sprint Nextel made the first move, said City Councilman Tony Avella (D-Bayside). "They went out the same day [Dec. 27] and turned off the system," he said. "Within the past week they've begun to remove the equipment." The church and school had attempted to annul the contracts for nearly two years. "It's a major victory for all of us, and the parents are thrilled," Avella said. A Sprint Nextel official said the company agreed to move out on the school's request. "We made the decision in the best interest of serving our customers and the community," said spokesman Mark Elliott. "That was our sole reasoning for removing the equipment." T-Mobile did not return calls for comment, but a spokesman, Wayne Leuck, e-mailed a written statement saying only that "Parents at St. Mel's School and throughout the area deserve the peace of mind that comes with high quality wireless coverage ...

www.emfnews.org EMF pollution causes a different type of environmental pollution which can be more risky to ones health than the usual air pollution we can easily detect and protect ourselves from. EMF radiation is a major stressor of the body and we get a fair amount of it every day, everywhere. Yet, we cant see it, we cant hear it, we cant smell it. Conflicting results Some researches seem to suggest that the increased incidence of brain tumors during the last decade or so is attributable to cell phone use. Preliminary data would show that the brain tumor is usually located on the side where the patient would use his/her cell phone. But results from studies have been conflicting. Last year, the Dutch Health Council, reviewing all available data from all over the world, found no conclusive evidence that radiation from mobile phones and TV towers was harmful. A four-year British survey released early this year also showed no link between regular, long-term use of cell phones and brain tumor. These earlier publications seemed reassuring to cell phone users until researchers at the Swedish National Institute for Working Life observed in their study that the use of mobile phones over a long period of time can raise the risk for brain tumors, contradicting the conclusions of earlier researches. The Swedish researchers looked at the mobile phone use of 905 people between the age of 20 and 80 who had been diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor, and they found a link with their ...
