(February 11, 2010) - United States Mint Director Ed Moy launched the 2010 Lincoln Preservation of the Union One-Cent Coin today during a special ceremony at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum (ALPLM). The coins new reverse (tails side) design is emblematic of President Abraham Lincoln's preservation of the United States as a single and united country, as required by Title III of Public Law 109-145 (the Presidential $1 Coin Act of 2005). Americans can expect to see the new coin in their change beginning this year. This one-cent coin honors the preservation of the union, which was Abraham Lincoln's ultimate achievement, said United States Mint Director Ed Moy. Because of his presidency, despite bitter regional enmity and a horrific civil war, we remained the United States of America. Guests at the event included Jan Grimes, ALPLM acting executive director, and Dr. James Cornelius, its curator. Elizabeth Wooley, WICS-TV News anchor, served as master of ceremonies. Following the ceremony, Director Moy and guests handed out new Lincoln cents to children 18 years and younger, while adults exchanged their currency for rolls of the new coin. On the eve of the launch ceremony, Director Moy met with local coin enthusiasts at ALPLM, where he answered their questions and shared information about the United States Mint and its coin programs.

The newest Lincoln Penny was unveiled Thursday Feb. 11, 2010 at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum. The penny has a redesigned tails side, featuring a union shield, that will appear on one-cent coins from this year forward. The design symbolizes Lincolns preservation of the United States as a single country.

Today, I got my new set of 2009 proof Lincoln Cents. I decided to take some pictures, and share the view of my new coins with you. Vaudeville star Eva Tanguay introduced this, her signature song in 1905. She sang it for the "Ziegfeld Follies of 1909" and made this recording on 29th May 1922. Eva Tanguay (August 1, 1879 January 11, 1947) was a Canadian-born singer and entertainer who billed herself as "the girl who made vaudeville famous." Eva Tanguay was born in Quebec. Before she reached the age of six, her family moved from Quebec's Eastern Townships to Holyoke, Massachusetts. Her father died soon after. Metal Detecting a Wheat Penny with neswiper - Pretty Boring Episode. Back at that old school we have been trying to milk. I think it's pretty cool I pulled a 'rare coin' out of this place. A 1917 wheat cent. You know, the high bleeps on the edges of the iron bits are doing my head in. Since it often will bleep high tones on the edge of ferrous items, it's hard to tell if it's sloppy warble from the iron edge or a good target next to iron. It's hard to seperate targets in that iron infested school yard. Twice today I was caught with an empty hole, chasing a high tone that was the edge of the coil near iron. Metal Detecting for Penny Rolls - Some of the Treasure is in my own yard. I have been doing so well since I put my faith in Tesoro Discrimination. Thank you Tesoro, surely I'll soon afford a private jet! Seriously, today was a revelation in detecting. I thought there was nothing more to learn about this machine. Then I finally figured out it's strong points. Since I am down for the long haul, I'll sweep my favorite areas with high discrimination to pull out the coin. Then in the future as my budget permits higher end machines, I can go back and get the hard to identify targets. It's obvious this machine does one single thing well.
