Sad news today friends, Nicholas Ashford has passed away at the age of 69. He along with Valerie Simpson,was responsible responsible for writing and arranging many Motown classics like "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", "You're All I Need To Get By", "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing", and "Reach Out and Touch (Somebody's Hand)". Beginning their professional career in 1964 with Ray Charles "Let's Go Get Stoned", Motown signed them on as staff writers and producers. The disco era saw them develop a fully produced disco sound that Diana Ross "The Boss", Chaka Khan "Clouds" and their own "Found A Cure" benefited from. They are best known for the 1985 single "Solid" that peaked at #1 R&B and Dance action. Amy Winehouse used a sample of "You're All I Need To Get By" for her song "Tears Dry On Their Own".
