Garbage is an American rock group formed in Madison, Wisconsin, in 1994. The band consists of Scottish vocalist Shirley Manson and American musicians Duke Erikson, Steve Marker and Butch Vig, and has counted worldwide album sales of over 14 million units. Garbage released a string of increasingly successful singles in 19951996, including "Stupid Girl". Their debut album, Garbage, was an unexpected smash, selling over 4 million copies and certified double platinum in the UK, USA and Australia. Garbage won the Breakthrough Artist award at the 1996 MTV Europe Music Awards. Garbage spent two years working on follow-up album, Version 2.0, which topped the charts in the UK upon its 1998 release and the following year was nominated for two Grammy Awards, Album of the Year and Best Rock Album. Version 2.0 went on to match the sales of its predecessor. Garbage followed this up by performing and co-producing the theme song to the nineteenth James Bond movie The World Is Not Enough. Despite being named one of Rolling Stone's Top 10 Albums of The Year, Garbage's 2001 third album Beautiful Garbage failed to match the commercial success achieved by its predecessors. Garbage quietly disbanded in late 2003, but regrouped to complete fourth album Bleed Like Me in 2005, peaking at a career-high #4 in the US The band cut short their concert tour in support of Bleed Like Me announcing an "indefinite hiatus",emphasizing that they had not broken up, but wished to pursue personal interests. www.damoncisneros.com This is a cover version of the song "Territorial Pissing" by Nirvana from the album Nevermind. I transposed it a 1/2 step lower while recording so I could use my baritone electric guitar and get a deeper sound in the chorus sections - I was going for a hed (PE) hollow/twangy yet heavy single-coil sound. There's a twist in the bridge section too! Nirvana was an American rock band that was formed by singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic in Aberdeen, Washington in 1987. Nirvana went through a succession of drummers, the longest-lasting being Dave Grohl, who joined the band in 1990. With the lead single "Smells Like Teen Spirit" from the band's second album Nevermind (1991), Nirvana entered into the mainstream, bringing along with it a subgenre of alternative rock called grunge. Other Seattle grunge bands such as Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden also gained popularity, and as a result, alternative rock became a dominant genre on radio and music television in the United States during the early-to-mid-1990s. As Nirvana's frontman, Kurt Cobain found himself referred to in the media as the "spokesman of a generation", with Nirvana the "flagship band" of Generation X.Cobain was uncomfortable with the attention and placed his focus on the band's music, believing the band's message and artistic vision to have been misinterpreted by the public, challenging the band's audience with its third studio album In Utero (1993). Nirvana's brief run ended with Cobain's death in April 1994, but the band's popularity continued in the years that followed. In 2002, "You Know You're Right", an unfinished demo from the band's final recording session, topped radio playlists around the world. Since their debut, the band has sold over twenty-five million albums in the US alone, and over fifty million worldwide.
Here is some background information about "All Apologies" from songfacts.com : This song is similar to Nirvana's "Rape Me" in that it's protest against the media tramping upon people. Another theory: This song was meant to be a last note to Kurt Cobain's daughter Francis Bean, apologizing for not being the father he should have been. This was a highlight of Nirvana's Unplugged In New York, an acoustic album recorded for an MTV special. Nirvana recorded the Unplugged session November 18, 1993 and it aired almost a month later. The album was released November 1, 1994 in the US, 7 months after Cobain's death. In that context, it sounded like a goodbye message from Cobain. On some European versions of the album, there is a hidden song 20 minutes after this ends called "Gallons Of Rubbing Alcohol Flow Through The Strip." Albums with the hidden track contain a sticker that says "Exclusive International Bonus Track." When Nirvana recorded In Utero in February 1993, they wanted to make a raw, stripped down album that took them back to their roots after the polished and pop-influenced Nevermind. However, the band succumbed to pressure to have further mixing done to "Heart-Shaped Box," "All Apologies" and "Pennyroyal Tea." It is rumored that the entire album was mixed and did not resemble at all what Nirvana had wanted, but the 3 members of the band vehemently denied this and stated that they were very pleased with the outcome. The Christian band DC Talk sometimes cover this at concerts. They change the line "Everyone is gay" to "Jesus is the Way." Sinead O'Connor covered this on her 1994 album Universal Mother.

Nobody for sure knows what this song is about but that is how Kurt would have wanted it. But here are some guesses/facts/reviews about "About A Girl" from songfacts.com : Kurt Cobain wrote this for his girlfriend at the time, Tracy Marander. They lived together for a while, and she took the photo that's on the album cover. According to Chad Channing, who was Nirvana's drummer at the time, Cobain didn't have a title for this when he brought it to the studio. When Channing asked what it was about, Cobain said, "It's about a girl." This was one of Nirvana's first songs. It was released on Sub Pop, an independent record label they recorded on before being signed by David Geffen's DGC Records. Kurt Cobain wrote this after spending the previous night listening to The Beatles US album, Meet The Beatles, over and over. This is the first track on their acoustic album MTV Unplugged In New York, which was released after the death of Cobain. The album Bleach initially sold about 35000 copies, which was pretty good for an Indie band and got them signed to a major label. The album eventually sold over 1 million copies, as many Nirvana fans bought it after Cobain died. This was popular on college radio long before Nirvana hit it big. The album cost about $600 to produce. They got the title from a public service campaign in San Francisco that urged intravenous drug users to "Bleach Your Works," meaning to clean their needles with bleach so they would not spread the AIDS virus. At one point, Cobain wanted to call the album "Too Many Humans." The cover of Bleach shows 4 band members. For a while, Nirvana had a second guitarist named Jason Everman. On Nirvana's MTV Unplugged special, Cobain said, "This is off our first record, most people don't own it" before playing the song. The MTV Unplugged version is featured on Guitar Hero: World Tour.

There possibly isnt an album in history that is as genre defining as Nirvanas Nevermind. Released in 1991, it single-handedly was responsible for the birth of what became to be known as grunge and has gone on to sell millions. Nevermind was the second album from the Seattle trio and the first on the DGC label (its predecessor Bleech was released on the Sub Pop label). It was produced by Butch Vig (also the drummer for the band Garbage)and mixed by Andy Wallace. Nirvanas surviving members Krist Novoselic (bass) and Dave Grohl (drums) talk candidly about their past, the recording of Nevermind and about Kurt Cobain and the legacy that he has left behind. Also featured are exclusive interviews with the likes of Garry Gersh(A&R DGC Records), Butch Vig, Jonathan Ponneman and Nils Bernstein(Sub Pop Records), Thurston Moore(Sonic Youth), Jack Endino and many more. The voice of Dani Siciliano will be familiar to many of you, as her distinctive jazz coloured tones have been heard on the remarkable albums of Matthew Herbert. Many of his most memorable songs, and live shows, have been enhanced in no small part by Dani's vocal performances. This however is one facet of Dani's work; as you'll hear when you listen to this, the first single from her debut, solo album. Dani's influences are clearly wide ranging. Her musical childhood, took in, the church, country, jazz, soul, and punk. Dani moved to San Francisco in the early 90's, and in the following years, became a familiar face on the city's vibrant electronic music and club scene, having DJ residencies at the legendary End Up club amongst others. This musically diverse and culturally open-minded city is where she first met Matthew Herbert, before moving to London, and becoming such a central part of the Herbert sound. 'Walk The Line' is quite difficult to describe. There are certainly not many songs around that it can be compared to. Dani says of 'Walk The Line', "It's like a camp stampede of elephants escaping from the circus." Rather than opt for the familiar, modern route of getting other artists to remix a song, Dani has asked for 'Walk The Line' to be reinterpreted by the chosen artists in their own way, by recording cover versions. The 'Ukulady Mix' by Mara Carlyle is a wonderful "quirk n' soul", almost unplugged, take on the song. Mara is a wonderful singer and songwriter. She ...

MTV Unplugged in New York is a live album by the American grunge band Nirvana. It features an acoustic performance taped at Sony Music Studios in New York City on November 18, 1993 for the television series MTV Unplugged. The show was directed by Beth mccarthy and first aired on the cable television network MTV on December 14, 1993. As opposed to traditional practice on the television series, Nirvana played a setlist composed of mainly lesser-known material and cover versions of songs by The Vaselines, David Bowie, Meat Puppets (during which they were joined by two members of the group onstage) and Leadbelly. MTV Unplugged in New York was the first Nirvana album released in the wake of the April 1994 suicide of singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, and has become the group's most successful posthumous release, selling five million copies in America by 1997. It was hailed by critics as proof the band was able to transcend the grunge sound they were commonly associated with. MTV Unplugged in New York includes two songs which were not aired on the original television broadcast of the concert: "Something in the Way" and "Oh, Me." The album won a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album in 1996. The performance received a DVD release in 2007.
