Dalai Lama's Nobel Peace Prize Celebrated in India 2009-12-10 11:28 The Dalai Lama was awarded the Noble Peace Prize in 1989. Every year since then, Tibetans observe the 10th of December as an occasion to celebrate. On Thursday, hundreds of Tibetan exiles in India gathered at a Buddhist temple in the town of Dharamsala. [Thubten Samphel, Spokesperson, Tibetan Government-in-exile]: "So this is the recognition on the part of the international community that his holiness has made very important contributions to making the world a more peaceful place and it is also their recognition that through his... by his force of character, his holiness has kept the Tibetan struggle non-violent and peaceful." Tibetan artists performed colorful cultural dances, played traditional musical instruments and sang songs in their regional language. The Dalai Lama has lived in exile in India since fleeing China in 1959. He is a well-known advocate for religious freedom and autonomy for Tibet, putting him at odds with the Chinese Communist Party or CCP. The CCP has controlled Tibet since troops marched into the region in 1950. Critics have accused the CCP of repressing Tibetans' religious freedom.

Popularity of the Dalai Lama among world reporters at FCCJ. Press reports. The Dalai Lama, Tibets exiled spiritual leader, said his planned visit to Buddhist monasteries on the India-China border November 8th is solely for teaching and shouldnt anger Chinas government. The Dalai Lama will visit the town of Tawang in a disputed border region of Arunachal Pradesh state. The town is where he crossed into India in 1959 while fleeing Chinese rule over Tibet, as well as the birthplace in the 17th-century of the sixth Dalai Lama. If my visit creates problems, Im very sad, thats all, the 74 year-old Nobel Peace Prize winner told reporters of the Foreign Correspondents' Club in Japan in Tokyo. It was a fearful journey with great anxiety, and when I reached the Tawang area it was an immense relief. I have great feelings about the area. Tawang is home to one of the largest monasteries of his Gelugpa sect of Buddhism. Local leaders invited him to teach and dedicate a new hospital, built in part with funds he donated. Novembers visit was the first opportunity to accept, and was not meant to surprise the Chinese government, he said. Asked whether his successor may be found in Tawang, he restated that he will play no role in such efforts. Tibetans believe the Dalai Lama is the reincarnation of Avalokitsevara, the Buddha of Compassion. If I was communist then I would have to be concerned about my successor but Im not communist, he said. If the majority of Tibetan people want to keep the ...

This video contains rare footage of an Ahmadi Muslim being awarded the nobel prize for his work in Physics in 1979. Dr. Abdus Salam is the first ever Muslim to have achieved this honour. His achievement was a fulfilment of the prophecy of the Promised Messiah (AS) that his followers will excel others in the fields of knowledge and wisdom. He indeed excelled all others by becoming the first ever Muslim nobel laureate with the grace and mercy of Allah Almighty. The whole life of this great man is a role model for everyone. He always said that he got the inspiration of his scientific work from the teachings of Holy Quran. He was true believer in the existance of God and always said there is no contradiction in the word of God and the work of God.

DNA is very reluctant to change. It is a complex molecule that has existed for 4 billion years. There are mutations, but they are slow in human time - not so slow in geological time. Islam has successfully maintained its general form since C7th AD. Not so remarkable up to the end of the Middle Ages, the Reformation, the Industrial Revolution and the Enlightenment, since Christianity and Judaism similarly did not change. It wasn't that it was resisting change, it was that the environment was stable. But after the latter seismic changes, Christianity and Judaism had to undergo their own reformation and adapted to the changing world. This can be seen by the number of Nobel Prize winners from Christian and Jewish communities. However, Islam has not mutated yet. It is trying to maintain an anachronistic environment similar to the period before the end of the Middle Ages in spite of massive changes in socio-political, scientific and technological developments. Parallels can be seen with China pre-opening late C20th and countries like Burma and North Korea still. What is the prognosis? Can Islam spread outside of its anachronistic environments (nation states) and infest the already mutated Christian and Jewish world? This is, of course, leaving aside the massive issues of the Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Confucian, Taoist areas of the Far East like India and China etc. It is unlikely that Western civilization will mutate back to a previous state (as it was before the Industrial ...
