The FOGS back the NSW Aussie Blues for State of Origin game 3 at ANZ Stadium
New South Wales have named four debutants and handed Trent Barrett the captaincy over Kurt Gidley for State of Origin III at ANZ Stadium in Sydney on July 7. The Blues made eight changes to the line-up that surrendered the series with a 34-6 defeat in game two at Suncorp Stadium earlier this month. Penrith flyer Michael Gordon gained a right-wing berth, with Manly's Jason King and Cronulla's Kade Snowden forming a new front row and Parramatta's Tim Mannah named on the bench. Gold Coast Titans five-eighth Greg Bird capped a strong return to the NRL by being named at lock, joining fellow "bash brother" Paul Gallen in the Blues line-up for the first time since 2008. Penrith backrower Luke Lewis was recalled after missing Origin II with suspension, while St George Illawarra prop Michael Weyman missed the cut, as he was expected to face a long stint on the sideline for a dangerous tackle against Wests Tigers on Friday night. Queensland, who are determined to finish the job after securing an unprecedented fifth-straight series win in Brisbane, will name their team on Tuesday, with Ben Hannant expected to miss out in favour of returning Penrith prop Petero Civoniceva.
Timana Tahu playing his first game since the Race Row in the NSW Blues Camp, was fired up and was sent to cool off for 10mins after a shot on a Knights Player.

New South Wales selectors were unable to finalise their line-up for State of Origin II, but included Mitchell Pearce at the expense of Brett Kimmorley in an extended 21-man squad. With Jarryd Hayne and Luke Lewis facing a trip to the judiciary on Tuesday night, and Michael Weyman (groin), Beau Scott (adductor) and Josh Dugan (knee) battling injury, Blues selectors named an extended squad for the first time in the 30-year history of Origin. New faces in the squad for this series included Canberra fullback Dugan, Cronulla pair Paul Gallen and Trent Barrett, St George Illawarra backrower Beau Scott, Parramatta forward Nathan Hindmarsh, North Queensland Cowboys enforcer Luke O'Donnell and Manly co-captain Jason King. Canterbury-Bankstown halfback Kimmorley and Manly prop Josh Perry appeared to be dropped on form, while Sea Eagles pair Jamie Lyon and Anthony Watmough were omitted due to injury.

Canterbury-Bankstown young gun Jamal Idris is the shock selection in the New South Wales team for the opening Origin clash against Queensland on May 26. The 19-year-old giant was picked to make a big impact off the bench as Blues selectors ignored the three-try performacne of Panthers star Michael Jennings on Sunday to go with experienced pair Matt Cooper and Timana Tahu in the centres. Tahu, who returned to play for Parramatta after two seasons with the NSW Waratahs and Wallabies, will play his first Origin game since 2006. Selectors have moved him from his usual left side to the right, where he will have the huge task of containing Maroons champion Greg Inglis. As expected, Manly co-captain Jamie Lyon has been named at five-eighth for the ANZ Stadium clash despite playing in his preferred position of centre with the Sea Eagles. Despite the selectors declaring they would stay loyal to the players who delivered the Blues a 28-16 victory in game three at Suncorp Stadium last year, they have made seven changes to that side. Gone are Jennings and Josh Morris, five-eighth Trent Barrett, prop Justin Poore and interchange forward Glenn Stewart, while winger David Williams (shoulder) and utility Craig Wing (Japanese rugby union) are unavailable. There was also no room for Cronulla Test forward Paul Gallen or bad boys Greg Bird, Todd Carney and Willie Mason. Kurt Gidley has seen off the challenge of winger Jarryd Hayne to retain the fullback position and the captaincy of the side ...
NOT The Footy Show steps up the plate and gives you our own NSW State of Origin teams... these are the 17 we'd pick - not the ones we think that NSW selectors will pick. If we tried to pick the team the selectors would pick we might as admit to defeat before the series is even played... as four straight Queensland Maroons victories indicate. We want to hear your team! Also NOT The Footy Show has branched into Podcasting - tiny.cc Subscribe today, regret your decision tomorrow. Each week's podcast is an EXTENDED audio version of our YouTube Video - certainly worth one listen, if not two. Comment here on YouTube or at The NRL Tweet (www.twitter.com or www.wdnicolson.blogspot.com We filmed this on Thursday April 22 - so obviously Aiden Tolman & Josh Morris are under severe injury clouds for Origin I after getting hurt in Round 7. And if you can read dates - you'd know we didn't know this as the video was filmed PRIOR to Round 7. Our Round 8 Preview Video (Episode 17) will be up Wednesday afternoon...
