The 2010 Forte Koup shares its underpinnings with the new Forte sedan that was displayed in February at the Chicago show. Slightly shorter and lower than the sedan, the five-passenger Forte Koup is aimed at such competitors as the Scion tC, the Honda Civic, the Chevrolet Cobalt and the Ford Focus. It is being offered in two trim levels, EX and SX. The Forte Koup EX comes with a 156-horsepower DOHC 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a choice of five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. Its EPA city/highway fuel economy numbers are 25 mpg and 34 mpg, respectively, with either transmission. The Forte Koup SX gets a larger, more powerful DOHC 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 173 hp and 168 pound-feet of torque. With the standard six-speed manual transmission, it is EPA rated at 22/32 mpg, while the optional five-speed automatic changes the fuel-economy ratings to 23/31 mpg. Both models come with standard air conditioning, tilt steering column, power windows and locks, remote keyless entry, cruise control and a six-speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio system with steering-wheel-mounted audio controls and full iPod controls. In fact, when VW first developed the 2010 Volkswagen GTI, it proved to be so quiet that the engineers had to develop an electronic "sound generator" to deliver the proper aural stimulation to the driver. When the 2010 VW GTI debuts alongside the standard 2010 Volkswagen Golf (née Rabbit, as VW has decided to return to this car's traditional model name even for the US market), it will be presented as a sophisticated German alternative to the Honda Civic Si and Mazda 3. It will debut at the 2009 New York Auto Show and finally reach showrooms in October. The price of the two-door hatchback will start from around $24000, while the four-door version will cost about $500 more.

The extra grunt, combined with some new electronic tech, eases towing chores, and the LR4 should maintain the marque's lofty off-road reputation. Fresh from its launch in the 2010 Jaguars, a direct-injection 5.0-liter V8 motivates the US-bound LR4 with 375 hp and 375 pound-feet of torque). For all-terrain duty in the Land Rover, the Jag V8 has been modified with a deep oil sump, unique intake manifolds and waterproof drive accessories (starter, alternator, air-conditioner, etc.). The all-wheel-drive Nuvis will make its formal debut next week at the 2009 New York Auto Show. "It's just a concept," said Hyundai Motor America spokesman Dan Bedore in a conversation with Inside Line on Wednesday. "We are not announcing a new product. It foretells future design direction." He added: "It does have gullwing doors." "What are other dramatic features?" Inside Line asked. Bedore responded: "The gullwing doors in a crossover are dramatic enough." He did confirm that the Nuvis rides on an all-wheel-drive platform and that it is not based on the popular Hyundai Genesis sedan or coupe. "There will be more powertrain details [announced in New York City]," Bedore said. In a statement, Hyundai Motor America described the Nuvis as "hint[ing] at a possible design direction for a future-generation crossover, blending attributes of a tall urban car and a premium utility vehicle." It said the Nuvis is the 11th concept car to come out of Hyundai's California Design Center in Irvine, California. While Bedore offered no confirmation, it is natural to speculate that the Nuvis may be based on the Hyundai Santa Fe or the Hyundai Veracruz. MORE 2009 NYIAS @ INSIDELINE.COM: www.edmunds.com AMG, Mercedes' in-house hot-rod shop, might have recently called an end to the horsepower war it helped instigate, but the 518-hp 2010 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG indicates the company is not exactly ready to lay down its arms completely. True, this new model, which will be unveiled at the New York auto show, brings only an additional 11 hp to the E-Class hot rod, compared to the E63 it replaces. We grew accustomed to great leaps in power every time the E-Class AMG was renewed. The big 6.2-liter that arrived for 2007 brought a 38-hp bump from the previous car. And by slapping a supercharger on the 5.5-liter in 2003, AMG added a whopping 120 hp to the existing E55 AMG. So, by adding the powertrain of the SL63, AMG might not be catapulting over the new horsepower heavy in the class, the 556-hp Cadillac CTS-V, but 518 is still a staggering amount of juice. And its bark is as gnarly as its bite. An AMG official started up a 2010 E63 at a sneak peek of the car in Affalterbach, Germany, and gave the throttle a few quick stabs. It sounded very perturbed. In addition to the 518-hp rip-snorter of an engine, the E63 AMG also snatches from the SL63 its seven-speed AMG Speedshift MCT transmission. Unlike a conventional automatic transmission, this unit has no torque converter. A production version of the concept is due out this fall, said Honda. The production version is expected to feature such canine-friendly features as a cushioned pet bed in the cargo area, a cargo load-in ramp, a 12-volt ventilation fan, rubber floor mats with a toy bone pattern and paw-print exterior badging. "In an interesting turn of events, cars are now chasing dogs," quipped John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda, in one of the auto show's more lighthearted moments. "Factory integration of a cushioned pet bed, restraint systems and other components are intended to transform the Element into the ultimate dog car." Honda execs are clearly "dog people." At the 2005 Tokyo Auto Show, Honda introduced another dog-friendly offering, the Wow — short for Wonderful Open-hearted Wagon. Last year, the company launched the Honda Dog Web site for the Japan market. It offers dog lovers information about pet-friendly hotels and the dimensions of cargo space in vehicles to help with dog cages and other paraphernalia. Other auto companies have ventured into the dog-lover demographic with limited success. They include Saab, which at one time offered dog leashes and collars, but has since discontinued them.
Gotta love that 6-speed! Jeep stays true to its heritage, providing people with a go anywhere do anything vehicle that's fun to drive too. Put the top down, take the doors off and pop it into 4WD to have the ultimate fun! What more can you ask for in a Wrangler. This model is powered by an adequate 3.8L 205hp V6 engine. Jeep is really stepping up to the plate with this Wrangler and the 2011 Grand Cherokee! Awesome job Jeep!
