Painters, Machinist Bus Tour Rallies Workers in Columbus: It was all about a four-letter word, jobs, in Columbus outside the Statehouse on Tuesday when the "It's About Jobs" Bus Tour rolled into town to rally workers in support of Ohio labor-endorsed canidates. Union members from IUPAT, IAM, AFSCME, TWU, CWA, AFT/OFT, UFCW and SEIU along with members of Working America chanted "What do we want? Jobs. When do we want them? Now!" and cheered on candidates who promised to fight for working family issues. Chris Sloan, IUPAT Director of Government Affaris, told the story of Maria, an IUPAT member who lost her job to outsourcing. She went on unemployment benefits to support her and her two sons but because of Republican inaction on extending unemployment benefits, lost her home and was forced to send her sons to live with her mother in South America. "Maria's back working because of politicians like Ted Strickland," who have fought for working families, said Sloan. "We cannot let Maria's story continue." Labor-endorsed candidates Mary Jo Kilroy, Paula Brooks and Yvette McGhee Brown and Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Redfren also spoke at the rally. "We have a Governor who has put the priorities of the middle-class first" and his opponent, John Kasich, who spent years "peddling papers for Lehman Brothers," said Redfren. Congressmember Mary Jo Kilroy told workers she is angry at the current economic situation, created by Wall Street and bad trade deals, and the pain it has ...

More than a hundred unemployed 99ers crowded Wall Street today to protest the end of their unemployment benefits. Many of these people have been receiving unemployment benefits for 99 weeks which means they're at the end of the line faced with no more money coming in. RT correspondent Marina Portnaya says the 99ers have given Washington two options; create jobs, or help them out. People are frustrated because they want to work and they can't.

The number of US workers filing new claims for unemployment benefits fell last week by 21000 to 454000, more than analysts expected. In its weekly report Thursday, the Labor Department said the number of US workers filing initial claims for jobless benefits declined by 21000 to 454000 in the week ended July 3. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires had expected claims would fall by 12000. That last time claims dropped by so much was in mid-April. Even with this latest decline in weekly claims, the numbers still aren't low enough to signal major improvement in job market conditions. Many people still remain out of work, and in recent weeks economists have grown increasingly worried that US growth may start to slow down in the second half of the year. The largest increase in claims occurred in New Jersey, which saw claims rise by 7951 in the week ended June 26 due to school closings as well as layoffs in the construction, service, transportation, warehousing, and public administration industries. Other states with increases included Massachusetts, New York, Florida, and Connecticut.

Eileen Dunn, RN, informs the town hall meeting that gathered on April 30, 2010, at Hudson Guild in Chelsea, that after nurses had been laid off as a result of the bankruptcy and closing of St. Vincent's Hospital, nurses who tried to apply online for unemployment wages were denied their benefits. Now, questions have been raised about the hospital's filing of its quarterly payments to the New York State Department of Labor. As has been reported by NY1, at the time that the Board of Trustees voted to close the hospital, St. Vincent's, with 400 inpatient beds, was employing 3500 people and was providing life-saving treatments in its emergency room to about 60000 patients per year. As millions of people know this Republican Nazi has blocked UI emergency benefits for millions of families because that heartless son of a bitch said he wants it payed for ? You know it amazes me when these so called fiscal Republicans find their fiscally responsible religion when it comes on the backs of the poor and middle class ? Yet when it comes to passing unpaid for tax breaks to the richest 10%, no problem for Republicans and Coburn . I hear these Republican parrots try to paint this picture that it's just because people don't want to work . Complete and utter bs, and they know it ! Republicans seem to forget that 8 million jobs were lost since the beginning of this Bush recession .Even though Obama has improved the situation, we are not out of the woods yet .According to the New York Times,"Job seekers now outnumber openings six to one, the worst ratio since the government began tracking open positions in 2000. According to the Labor Departments latest numbers, from July, only 2.4 million full-time permanent jobs were open, with 14.5 million people officially unemployed. And even though the pace of layoffs is slowing, many companies remain anxious about growth prospects in the months ahead, making them reluctant to add to their payrolls". Were talking school teachers, engineers, people who have worked 4 jobs at a time, and skilled workers . However, those fortunate enough to be working are indifferent to this fact . I'm a strong believer what comes around gos ...

More than 46000 New Yorkers are set to exhaust all 99 weeks of their Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits this week. For every one of them, these past two years have been an emotional roller coaster. They've searched for jobs, taken training programs and gone to interviews, but they are still without work. Two State leaders are reminding New Yorkers about the options open to them. Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner and Kristin Proud, Deputy Secretary for Human Services, Technology and Operations, who is currently overseeing the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) had advice for people like Judiann, as well as the tens of thousands more slated to run out of UI benefits. They urge you to visit myBenefits.ny.gov from any computer with Internet access -- at home, at the local library or at a One-Stop Career Center. On the site, New Yorkers can do a five-minute self-assessment of their income and family situation. In turn, the site lists programs that may help you, along with tips on where and how to apply in your area

Democrat Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said the Congress under Democrat leadership will be the most ethical Congress. Perhaps Madame Speaker should have informed Democrat Representative from New York City, Charles Rangel of that. Democrat Rangel is chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, the committee that writes the nations tax code. Democrat Rangel is under investigation for ethics violations for not reporting on his taxes earned income from rental property. When Democrat Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was asked about Democrat Rangel, she saw no trouble with his position or accusations as it did not involve the nation's security. Meaning to Democrats is okay as long as it does not involve the nation's security or Republicans. Democrat Rangel resigned his chairmanship temporarily. This was done to defuse the criticism when in essence he will be able to take that position back if he so desires. President Barack Obama (Democrat) and Senate Democrats advocate the implementation of pay go or pay as you go. Meaning no legislation to be passed which would result in deficit spending. In the Senate recently had a thirty extension on extending unemployment benefits held up by Republican Senator Jim Bunning from Kentucky. His objection to the bill was pay-go was being ignored and the legislation did not provide for its funding. The Democrats were furious, while his fellow Republicans were basically silent. The legislation eventually passed. Recently Democrats in a ...
