Four Oakland police officers shot and killed an armed suspect in the takeover robbery of a Walgreens shortly after hearing him exchange gunfire with two California Highway Patrol officers, an attorney involved in the case said Thursday. "The officers heard a gunbattle and then heard, 'Officer down!' " Bowman said. "Seconds later, the suspect comes running and charging at them." Bowman said the four officers, whose names were not released, fired numerous shots at Shavers, who stood more than 6 feet tall and weighed at least 250 pounds. "This guy was going to kill whatever cop got in his way," Bowman said. "And so after he engages CHP and shoots that officer, he had many avenues of exit. And they were left with no other option but to defend themselves as individuals and to defend each other." The incident began when Shavers and Alphonso Mitchell, 40, burst into the drugstore and herded several employees into a back room at gunpoint, police said. Shavers fired shots inside the store ...

4 Oakland Police officers shot Suspect Lovelle Mixon killed Breaking News 3 22 09
On Saturday March 21, 2009, four Oakland Police Officers were shot and killed in two separate, but related incidents. The first came in the form of a traffic stop, initiated by Sgt. Mark Dunakin and Ofc. John Hege. The operator, Lovell Mixon, 26, opened fire upon the two officers, striking and killing Dunakin and mortally wounding Hege. Officer John Hege died three days later from his injuries. The second incident came when police located Mr. Mixon after he had fled the scene of the initial shooting. SWAT team officers Sgt. Romans and Sgt. Sakai were shot and killed by Mr. Mixon after attempting to apprehend him. Mixon was eventually shot and killed by SWAT team officers. This video was meant to commemorate these four fallen officers. Therefore, comments will have to obtain my authorization before being displayed on the video's comment page. oaklandfocus.blogspot.com - John Burris is a well-known Oakland attorney representing the family of Oscar Grant in the wake of the shooting of Grant by Johannes Mehserle on New Year's Day. Burris attended the funeral last Friday, March 27th of the four Oakland Police Officers who were murdered by Lovell Mixon on Saturday March 21st in Oakland. I unfortunately did not attend the event as I was sick, but I did watch it on television. Burris brings up a point that I noticed but given the weight of the matter, put on the back-burner of my mind because I didn't want to think the unthinkable: that not only was the Mayor of Oakland not allowed to speak but Congresswoman Barbara Lee, who was in attendance, was not even acknoweldged by the presenters. This video asks why and accompanies a link to the blog post with Burris' email letter in it. Distributed by Tubemogul.

These photos were taken at the Oracle Arena in Oakland on March 27, 2009 for the Service Memorial for the four Oakland Police Officers killed in the line of duty on March 21, 2009. Actual still can be viewed in the link below www.raaphoto.com
On Saturday, March 21st, at 1:15 two officers responded to a routine car stop. Upon arriving, the suspect exited the vehicle and began shooting at the officers. As the officers lay on the street pave ment, clinging to life, the suspect, Lovell Mixon, a man on parole for rape and jailed for assault, walked up to the officers, and shot them in the head, execution style. Mixon fled, and a massive manhunt involving over 200 officers from various bureaus began. Around two hours into the search, an anonomous tip led police to an apartment building. As Swat entered, Mixon fired at the entrance, killing two more officers and grazing one in the skull. Upon recieving incoming fire, the officers fatally shot Mixon 3 times. This day will always be remembered as the day 4 of America's finest dutifully sacrificed their lives for our well being...RIP.

Michael Savage - Oakland police officers were shot dead because of liberalism
The Stench of Truth 124 The death of 4 police officers in Oakland California is, whether justified or not, is thought of as retribution by a whole class of people in this country. The police have become a paramilitary force that serves the interests of the fascist corporate state. The police are in the business of containing a whole class of people in this country. The corporate fascist state deliberately orders the police to push and push against these people, and secretly hopes that the police WILL be shot and killed so they can use those deaths to try and pass stricter laws. It's all manufactured, a totally manufactured crisis, managed and run by the corporate state.

A vigil was held in East Oakland on March 24 for the four Oakland police officers slain in the line of duty on March 21.
uhurunews.com http alduhuru.org A march and vigil was held for Lovelle Mixon on March 26, 2009. The International People's Democratic Uhuru Movement (inpdum) calls on all progressive-minded people to stand against the brutal, long-standing, publicly-supported policies of police containment that keep the African community under the grip of a colonial occupation for which the Oakland Police Department (OPD) is the front line of assault. We call for support for the African community demands for genuine economic development and social justice for the African community. The deaths of four members of the OPD on March 21, 2009, were the result of these relentless policies, which are manifested daily in the cold-blooded police murders, brutality and harassment of African men and women, youth and elderly by the heavily armed, military style Oakland police force; In draconian laws such as Three Strikes that discriminatorily lock up tens of thousands of African people for life in the multi-billion dollar California prison industry; In the hostile, substandard education system that profiles African male children as young as six years old as criminals and super-predators, and feeds the shameful juvenile prison industry that violates every principle of international law; In the highly-documented government-imposed illegal drug trade which is often the only last-ditch source of employment in a community whose own economic infrastructure has been destroyed by urban renewal and ...

IVE BEEN TELLING YOU ABOUT THE FOUR POLICE OFFICERS WHO WERE SHOT AND KILLED BY A VIOLENT, CRIMINAL MURDEROUS THUG OVER THE WEEKEND IN OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA. WELL NOW IT TURNS OUT THAT THIS VERMIN WAS LINKED BY DNA EVIDENCE TO A RAPE THAT OCCURRED EARLIER THIS YEAR. SO THE STREET SCUM WHO WAS ON PAROLE FOR ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON, THE VERMIN WHO SHOT POLICE OFFICERS ERVIN ROMANS, DANIEL SAKAI, MARK DUNAKIN, AND JOHN HEGE WE NOW FOUND WAS A RAPIST AS WELL. BUT HERES THE INCREDIBLE PART OF IT. THE POLICE GOT THE INFORMATION ON THE RAPE ON FRIDAY, THE DAY BEFORE THIS LOWLIFE WENT ON HIS MURDEROUS RAMPAGE. YET ACCORDING TO THE FAILING SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE, THE POLICE COULD NOT HAVE ISSUED AN ARREST WARRANT FOR HIM IMMEDIATELY BECAUSE INVESTIGATORS FIRST WOULD HAVE NEEDED TO GATHER ANOTHER SAMPLE OF HIS DNA FOR COMPARISON PURPOSES. IN OTHER WORDS, EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD THE EVIDENCE THAT THIS STREET THUG NEEDED TO BE PUT AWAY, THEY DIDNT ACT ON IT IMMEDIATELY. THEY KNEW THAT IF THEY DIDNT PROVE THEIR CASE TEN TIMES OVER THAT SOME RAT LAWYER FROM THE ACLU WOULD FIND A TECHNICALITY THAT WOULD ALLOW HIM TO GO RIGHT BACK ON THE STREET AGAIN. SO THEY WAITED FOR MORE EVIDENCE. AND FOUR POLICE OFFICERS WERE KILLED. SO ONCE AGAIN WE SEE WHAT THE LAWYERS, THE STREET ACTIVISTS, AND THE ACLU HAVE DONE TO THIS COUNTRY. IN MY OPINION, THEY SHOULD BE CHARGED WITH ACCESSORY TO MURDER. A SOCIETY IN WHICH WOMEN CAN BE RAPED, PEOPLE CAN BE CARJACKED, POLICE OFFICERS CAN BE MURDERED WHILE ...

Two officers were shot in the first incident just after 1 pm after they stopped the suspect's vehicle in east Oakland, said Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason. The suspect fled the scene on foot into a nearby neighborhood, police said, leading to an intense manhunt by dozens of Oakland police, California Highway Patrol officers and Alameda County sheriff deputies. Streets were roped off and an entire area of east Oakland closed to traffic. At about 3:30 pm officers, acting on an anonymous tip, found the suspect, who had barricaded himself in a building. "We had SWAT officers go into that building and that's where the second shooting took place," said Thomason.therealaix's quickcapture Video - March 23, 2009, 12:26 PM
