A tribute to the sexy and gorgeous Barbara Nichols. Barbara Nichols (December 30, 1929 October 5, 1976) was an American actress who often played brassy comic roles in a number of films in the 1950s and 1960s. Nichols was born as Barbara Marie Nickerauer in Queens, New York. She began modeling for pinup magazines in the early-1950s. In the mid-1950s, she moved to Hollywood and began regularly appearing in second leads in a number of films including Miracle in the Rain (1956), The King and Four Queens (1956), The Naked and the Dead (1957), The Pajama Game (1957), Pal Joey (1957), Sweet Smell of Success (1957), That Kind of Woman (1958), Where the Boys Are (1960). On Broadway, she appeared in the 1952 revival of Pal Joey and in Let It Ride (1961). Nichols was a popular model in cheesecake magazines of the era and was considered a minor rival to Marilyn Monroe, along with Jayne Mansfield, Mamie Van Doren, Cleo Moore, Diana Dors and Sheree North. Unlike the rest, Nichols rarely starred in films, but had showy supporting roles in A-films starring such actors as Clark Gable, Susan Hayward, Sophia Loren, and Doris Day. One of her few starring roles was in the 1966 science fiction film The Human Duplicators. Nichols was also a frequent guest star on many television series including It's a Great Life, The Jack Benny Television Show, The Twilight Zone, The Untouchables, Batman, and The Beverly Hillbillies. Her last film was Won Ton Ton, the Dog Who Saved Hollywood in 1976
Tadeusz Faliszewski: Marquesita tango (José Padilla / Andrzej Włast) z rewii teatru Morskie Oko „Zabawki dla Warszawki, Syrena-Electro 1929 NOTE: José PADILLA Sánchez born in Almería, 28 May 1889, died in Madrid, on 25th October 1960. Spanish pianist and composer, author of many popular tunes, operettas and music to movie productions. He was trained in his home town, at the Madrid Conservatory and in Italy. In 1924 he went to Paris where he wrote the scores for two opérettes, Pépète (1924) and Symphonie Portugaise (published in 1949), as well as many popular songs which were incorporated in revues at the Moulin Rouge and elsewhere. These songs, which include El relicario, La Violetera and the pasodoble Valencia brought him international celebrity and keep his memory green today. ------------------------------------------------------- The 1929 revue Zabawki dla Warszawki (Little Toys For Little Warsaw) as well as other revues of years 1928-30, considered as the golden era of Warsaw cabarets - was an enormous success. As in his memoirs Great Artists Of The Little Stages writes Ludwik Sepoliński - one of leading vadeuville and comedy actors of inter-war Warsaw - in spite of the approaching nightmare of world economic crizis and unbelievably high prices of Morskie Oko tickets (16 zloty per person was eqiuvalent of ca 4,5 dollars), tickets for the premiere show were booked a few weeks in advance, not only at the cash-desks but also by telegraph from other cities all over ...

Arthur Fields (Aug.6,1888 - March 29,1953) was a United States singer (baritone) and songwriter. He was born Abe Finkelstein in Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, but grew up mainly in Utica, New York. He became a professional singer as a youngster. Around 1908 he toured with Guy Brother's Minstrel Show, and helped form a vaudeville act "Weston, Fields and Carroll". His first hit as a songwriter was On The Mississippi (1912) which he wrote the music for with Harry Carroll and Ballard MacDonald supplied the lyrics. In 1914 he wrote the lyrics to Aba Daba Honeymoon, which was revived for the 1950 MGM film Two Weeks With Love and thus got a renewed popularity which brought Fields large royalty incomes during his last two years. From 1914 onwards he recorded with many bands and for many labels and had a varied career in the recording industry. His 1919 recordings with bandleader Ford Dabney may be the very first recordings of a white singer backed by a black band. For a period Fields also formed a vocal trio with brothers Jack and Irving Kaufman, billing themselves as "The Three Kaufields". Fields also often appeared on records under pseudonyms, for example as "Mr X." on Grey Gull Records and related labels. His last records were made in the early 1940s. Among Field's most prolific partnerships was the one with band leader and pianist Fred Hall, with whom Fields made plenty of records and co-wrote several songs, often with comic titles like The Shoes We Have Left Are All Right and ...

Oil prices could hit the $200-a-barrel mark, predicts Aaron Lee Smith, MD of Superfund Financial Singapore. He speaks to CNBC's Arnold Gay about how investors can capitalize on this through managed futures.
Aaron Lee Smith, managing director at Superfund Financial, sees gold as a good bet as he believes it will rise to $1000 an ounce by year-end, and $1500 in two, three years' time. He explains why, to CNBC's Martin Soong and Amanda Drury.
The social and economic climate of these two depressions of 1880 and 1929 shaped the political thinking that brought about the creation of the welfare state...
I don't say this in many instances, but: This power needs to be given back to the government! We have signed over our money and our lives away from the system of checks and balances and over to the privately owned Federal Reserve Bank. The fed was created out of financial panic in 1913, and caused a huge bubble responsible for the stock market crash of 1929. As long as governments are taking action, they think they are in the right. But the actions they are taking right now are further eroding the best qualities of this nation.

Ben Bernie (May 30, 1891, Bayonne, New Jersey - October 23, 1943), born Bernard Anzelevitz, was an American jazz violinist and radio personality, often introduced as The Old Maestro. He was noted for his showmanship and memorable bits of snappy dialogue. By the age of 15 he was teaching violin, but this experience apparently diminished his interest in the violin for a time. He returned to music doing vaudeville, appearing with Phil Baker as Baker and Bernie, but he met with little success until 1922 when he joined his first orchestra. Later, he had his own band, "The Lads," seen in the early DeForest Phonofilm sound short, Ben Bernie and All the Lads (1924-1925), featuring pianist Oscar Levant. He toured with Maurice Chevalier and also toured in Europe. Bernie's orchestra recorded throughout the 1920s and 1930s; Vocalion (1922-1925), Brunswick (1925-1933), Columbia (1933), Decca (1936), and ARC (Vocalion and OKeh) (1939-1940). In 1925 Ben Bernie and his orchestra did the first recording of Sweet Georgia Brown. Bernie was the co-composer of this jazz standard, which became the theme song of the Harlem Globetrotters.
