Odysseus And Calypso has no followers yet. Be the first one to follow.
In Homer's "The Odyssey," during his journey home, Odysseus arrives shipwrecked on Calypso's island. She is a goddess who falls in love with him and offers him comfort, safety, and even immortality; but her gifts are no longer meaningful to the hero. Odysseus feels trapped and longs to go home. In this illustrated presentation you will experience vividly the power of this fascinating story, but above all you will be probed to explore the meaning of Calypso's island in the journey of your own life.

Part 1 of the Wishbone episode "Homer Sweet Homer." In this episode Wishbone plays the part of Odysseus, the hero of Homer's "The Odyssey." The great soldier, Odysseus, is prisoner of the goddess, Calypso. Odysseus has an awfully big enemy, too: Poseidon, god of the sea. As Odysseus, Wishbone must escape Calypso, fight off the sea god and return home in time to save his family.

Those who cant join us and take part in the war, please stay close to a Teleporter or a CITY. The Robot Uprising Nobody could expect what happened next. Without any warning, all robots on Calypso went mad! The base matrix turned them into savage and ruthless killer machines, cut off all communications to and from Calypso, and sabotaged the almost completed space gate, further isolating the colony. Even the Exodus space station was damaged by the drones. In the chaos that erupted, the base matrix could overload the reactors providing energy to the colonists, thereby causing them to explode. Huge plumes of radioactive fallout contaminated large areas around the cities. As people fled, the base matrix unleashed an army of robots, turning the uprising into war. The robots constructed nuclear weapons of their own, to continue the horrendous assault on the colonists. In the shadow of the mushroom clouds, the resistance formed. Using Exodus as the base, survivors were evacuated from Calypso and drafted into an army. The space gate was repaired and reinforcements being sent from Earth before the haphazardly repaired gate collapsed. With the reinforcements and new technology from Earth, the colonists fought back and fought hard, and held out long enough for the Imperial fleet to reach Calypso via jump ...

Calypso was a sea nymph in Greek mythology. She is remembered for imprisoning the fabled Greek hero Odysseus on her island in order to make him her immortal husband. Calypso kept Odysseus hostage at her Island Ogygia for seven years. Athena asks Zeus to spare Odysseus of his torment on the island, as he wants to return home to see his beloved wife Penelope. Zeus sent the messenger Hermes to Ogygia to order Calypso to release Odysseus. Calypso finally allowed Odysseus to build a small raft and depart the island, but ............. For my English project this semester, I chose to do a story-telling sort of thing. Since we read The Odyssey, I took a part that actually took seven years and epically shortened it and modernized it. When Odysseus washes up on Calypso's island, she keeps him there, even though he doesn't show much longing to get home so quick. I took this and made it like a high school scenario. This kid has to move to another school, leaves his dog with a girlfriend he's leaving behind, and at his new school, a girl is all over him like mosquitoes on campers. Meanwhile, in the book, suitors are trying to take Penelope's hand in marriage. In my video, it's just another teenage boy trying to hook up. Eventually, at the new school, the other girl "let's him go" after her friend tells her to, and because he's moving back. Then, the two original love birds are reunited. Superstar by Carpenters, A romantic music video made by me---Juan Carpenters were a vocal and instrumental duo, consisting of siblings Karen and Richard Carpenter. The Carpenters were the #1 selling American music acts of the 1970s. "Superstar" written by Delaney Bramlett and Leon Russell became another Carpenters classic, and is acclaimed for Karen's "haunting" vocals on the song. Richard modified the original lyric of "And I can hardly wait to sleep with you again," to "And I can hardly wait to BE with you again." It is usually described as being "poignant". It, too, peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Their eponymous album, entitled Carpenters was released in 1971. It became one of their best-selling albums, having earned RIAA certification for platinum four times. It won a Grammy Award for Carpenters, as well as three nominations. ODYSSEUS (Greek Oδυσσεύς, Latin: Ulysses), was a legendary Greek king of Ithaca and the hero of Homer's epic poem, ΤΗΕ ODYSSEY. He is most famous for the ten eventful years he took to return home after the ten-year Trojan War. The island, Ogygia,(believed to be the modern day Gozo), was home to the nymph Calypso who held Odysseus captive as her lover for seven years, promising him immortality if he agreed to stay. He was strongly attracted to her by night but wept by the shore for home and family by day. On behalf of Athena, Zeus intervened and sent Hermes to tell Calypso to let him go. Odysseus duly departed on a small raft, furnished by Calypso with provisions of water, wine and food, only to be hit by a storm from his old enemy Poseidon. Odysseus eventually returned to his homeland of Ithaca, to be with his beloved wife Penelope who had been waiting for him for twenty years. Some 'scandalous' evidence against odysseus
This was made for my Humanities class. We read the story and watched the movie, and then the teacher assigned us a project. The criteria: Must involve anything about Homer's Odyssey, and it can be anything you want. (diorama, small play, wood carving, painting, etc) All movies turned in get an automatic A. (This is were i leaped for joy xD) We were allowed to have multiple people in our groups, so I enlisted the help of my two friends Arrow and Red to help out and voice act. Took me two weeks of pure dedication, in which I used all my free time to get this 272 frame animation finished by February 16th. (I almost died, but with the help of soda and other forms of caffeine, I made it to the due date!) I've turned it in and my teacher said (and I quote): "That was possible the best project I've ever had turned into me!" lol I dun like to brag but...it was teh bestest! xD Especially since almost half the class took only 20 minutes on their projects, and the other half didn't even do it. So sad...Well, I gots a super A+ and Red and Arrow got As. w00ts! :D In retrospect, this video is pretty much a spoof of the movie made for the Odyssey where Odysseus is imprisoned on Calypso's island for 7 years because she loves him. Arrow, Red, and I all thought that Calypso sounds a bit...stlakerish? Lol so we came up with this. (In one part of the movie, Odysseus tries to escape but the nymphs rush out and grab him in PERFECT coordination. We came to the conclusion that Calypso made them ...

Szymanowski - Metopes Op 29 nos. 2 & 3 Calypso - Lento (Mesto) Nausicaa -- Allegretto grazioso The three Poems comprising 'Metopes' were composed in 1915 and they stand at the threshold of Szymanowski's full maturity as a composer, when he rejected German influences in favour of a highly personal 'impressionist' manner. Like the metopes in the friezes of doric architecture (a metope being the space between two triglyphs; an ornament with three vertical channels on a Doric frieze) Szymanowski's pieces are intended to outline stages in a history, here based on homer's Odyssey. The idea was probably suggested by the metopes from the Temple of Selinunt which the composer saw while visiting the museum in Palermo the previous year. The first of the 3 Pieces, 'Isle of the Sirens', takes much of its musical detail from the mythological source, not only in the more and more insistent lullaby theme which runs through the music but in configurations which presumably reflect the double flute and Lyre associated in Homer with the Sirens. Some of these patterns also suggest bird calls, reminding us that the Sirens were half-bird and half-woman who lured unwitting sailors to their death on the rocks. 'Calypso', the second of the Metopes, portrays the daughter of Atlas and Tethys who personifies the depths of the sea and who kept Odysseus on the island of Ortygia for seven years. A recurring refrain-like melody in the composer's favourite 'narrative' manner - 6/8 metre with dotted rhythm ...

We lived off you're land, that can be replaced. We did not kill anybody. Odysseus: Your crime is that you tried to steal my world. The world I built with my hands, and my sweat... A modern day rewrite of part of The Odyssey me and friend did for an English project. It has two people playing 5 different parts. It actually ended up being pretty good/funny.
Made for a Classical Civilizations grade 12 course, the story is an adaptation of a chapter from Homer's Odyssey, where Odysseus is trapped on the Isle of Calypso, where Calypso has taken him as her prisoner. Though the island is a paradise, Odysseus simply dreams of returning home to his wife, Penelope. This is our version of their tale.
