In a small, hot room in the Summit County Democratic Office in Akron, Ohio, Kathleen Kelly goes over the ins and outs of new call center technology with a group of Labor 2010 volunteers. "Even if I have had people who have never even used a mouse, and that's how little they know...they are okay. They can handle it." Kelly is the Northeast Ohio Area Labor Federation (ALF) Coordinator tasked with directing Labor 2010 efforts in the Northeast region. The Ohio AFL-CIO is sponsoring 16 call centers -- including three in the Northeast ALF area -- and a large direct mail program targeted to union members throughout Ohio in support of labor-endorsed candidates Governor Ted Strickland and others. Strickland is in a close race against former congress member and one-time Lehman Brothers managing director John Kasich. Recent polls show Strickland trailing Kasich but Kelly and hundreds of other labor volunteers are optimistic that labor mobilization can turn those numbers around. "It feels so good when you take an undecided or somebody that originally says they are not going to vote for Strickland because of misinformation and then you hear them tell you 'I will vote for Strickland,'" says Kelly. The Governor's race "is of critical importance to us because we have a Governor who has been very good to organized labor," says John Wagner, Ohio Tri-County Regional Labor Council Executive Secretary-Treasurer. Wagner and other Central Labor Council leaders completed the training and ...

The Convergys call center near Jefferson and Osuna in northeast Albuquerque has announced the closing of its call center this summer, leaving 700 people in the area unemployed. One employee says he's upset not just because he's losing his job. He says the companys problems with payroll, and a lack of empathy is adding insult to injury. The employee, who didnt want to be identified, says the company recently overpaid some people. They're taking it back in less than four checks, $30 to $40 a pop. On top of this, they're going to be cutting hours leading up to the layoffs, he said. Eyewitness News 4 obtained a written statement from the Ohio-based corporate office saying an unidentified client has taken business from Convergys and will start outsourcing. The employee understands that in this economy layoffs happen, he just wishes Convergys would have handled it differently.
The billions refers to tax subsidies paid to companies which are outsourcing American jobs. During Bush's Republican Regimist Reign of Terror, Republicans voted to pay companies subsidies - our American Tax Dollars! - to get rid of our jobs (outsourcing). Why can I not find any concrete figure on how many billions are getting paid (to rich corporations) to make more Americans unemployed? Politicians whine about helping the poor while doling out all kinds of cash to companies which close factories here and relocate jobs elsewhere. This makes no sense! Don't these fools realize that Americans with no money cannot buy stuff like we used to? And God bless Danny Glover - he's standing up for Hugo Boss employees in Ohio. I was a fan of his movies and now I am a fan of the man. I reckon he's smart enough to realize people without jobs cannot go to the theater like they would like to and catch the new movies. Hugs to Danny Glover and Dirty Butts to Jim Bunning!

Congratulations to all our friends in Ohio and Texas! You did good. Outsourcing of law enforcement is a breeding ground for corruption. The incentive to rob people is in the profits the tickets generate. Kickbacks and offers of high paying jobs with photo radar companies are being reported here and in other countries. Photo enforcement creates distrust and animosity for local officials, law enforcement departments, and makes a mockery of our judicial system. Redflex provides court administration modules for judges, DPS, attorneys, and witnesses that presents and assesses common dispute tactics and appropriate sound counter- measures required for successful prosecution. Arizona DPS/Redflex contract P 2 Funds the re-election efforts of two-thirds of Arizonas politicians and provides lawmakers with a personal financial incentive to protect controversial photo enforcement programs. In 1999, a ten percent surcharge was imposed on all traffic tickets to create the Citizens Clean Election Fund. The fund allows politicians to avoid tedious fundraising efforts. www.thetruthaboutcars.com The second-highest court in the State of Alaska struck down the photo radar program in 1997. The judges approved a lower-court determination that convictions rested on testimony from the company running the photo radar program, "witnesses the magistrates described as individuals who have a great deal at stake financially and who will testify to whatever it takes to convince' the court in a given ...
