..We heard the plane go down, called 911, and arrived on the seen within 1-2 minutes to capture this video. Here is a news report that explains the event in detail; "Mike Connell- A top level Republican IT consultant who was set to testify in a case alleging GOP election tampering in Ohio died in a plane crash late Friday night. Michael Connell -- founder of Ohio-based New Media Communications, which created campaign Web sites for George W. Bush and John McCain -- died instantly after his single-prop, private aircraft smashed into a vacant home in suburban Lake Township, Ohio. "The plane was attempting to land around 6 pm Friday at Akron-Canton Airport when it crashed about three miles short of the runway," reports the Akron Beacon Journal. Connell's exploits as a top GOP IT 'guru' have been well documented by RAW STORY's investigative team. The interest in Mike Connell stems from his association with a firm called GovTech, which he had spun off from his own New Media Communications under his wife Heather Connells name. GovTech was hired by Ohio Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell to set up an official election website at election.sos.state.oh.us to presented the 2004 presidential returns as they came in. Connell is a long-time GOP operative, whose New Media Communications provided web services for the Bush-Cheney 04 campaign, the US Chamber of Commerce, the Republican National Committee and many Republican candidates. This in itself might have raised questions about his ...
A month after Election Day, filmmaker Sanford Lewis released a video report profiling the problems that numerous Cleveland area voters had casting their ballot. According to the filmmaker, voting did not go as smoothly as was commonly portrayed. Many voters faced serious problems with mail-in voting. Thirty thousand voters in just this one county cast provisional ballots that were not included in the results announced on Election Day; by the time provisional ballots were counted 10 days after Election Day, 7000 of these ballots were invalidated. Had this election been closer, we would have heard a lot more about these disenfranchised voters, and theres no question in my mind that many of the provisional and absentee votes would have been contested in court, said filmmaker Sanford Lewis, who is also an attorney, based in Amherst, MA.

Day two of Live From Main Street and GRITtvs special programming on voting in the United States. Registration deadlines loom and there are many obstacles. From reading tests to ID challenges, felon disenfranchisement laws and the endless purging of voter rolls the US is almost alone among industrial world democracies in having no uniform federal voting law. WHY IS THAT? As early voting begins in states across the country, we are joined by Wendy Weiser who directs the Brennan Center's work on voting rights and elections; Docia Buffington, the lead organizer for the Youth Voter Collective; renowned author and professor, Frances Fox Piven. She has written many books including Why Americans Still Don't Vote; and Dr. Divine Pryor the Executive Director of the Center for NuLeadership on Urban Solutions.
As Ohio kicks off its Golden Week, where voters can both register to vote and put in their early votes all at once, Live From Main Street is launching a nationally broadcast investigation week and "virtual town hall" that will expose voter suppression tactics, feature voter protection organizing and connect citizens to voting experts. In our first panel, Bob Fitrakis, author of How the GOP Stole Americas 2004 Election & Is Rigging 2008, Donita Judge, a member of Advancement Project's Power and Democracy team and their lead attorney covering Ohio, and Stephen Hightower of the League of Young Voters discuss voter suppression and protection in Ohio and other battleground states.
