From Wikipedia: Ferlinghetti was in attendance at the now-famous Six Gallery reading where Ginsberg first performed Howl publicly. The next day Ferlinghetti contacted Ginsberg: "I greet you at the beginning of a great literary career," subsequently offering to publish his work.
