Hewlett-Packard strategic adviser Satjiv Chahil, a 1976 graduate of Thunderbird School of Global Management, talks Oct. 7, 2010, about the Orange County Choppers ad featured in the 2007 Super Bowl.
The New York Jets, led by head coach Weeb Ewbank (who was the head coach of the Colts when they won the famous 1958 NFL Championship game), finished the season with an 11-3 regular season record (one of the losses was to the Oakland Raiders in the infamous Heidi Game) and had to rally to defeat those same Raiders, 27-23, in a thrilling AFL Championship Game. Jets quarterback Joe Namath threw for 3147 yards during the regular season, but completed just 49.2 percent of his passes, and threw more interceptions (17) than touchdowns (15). Backup quarterback Earl Morrall became the starter due to a preseason injury to legendary Colts star Johnny Unitas, who was Namath's boyhood idol as both hailed from western Pennsylvania. Morrall would go on to have the best year of his career, leading the league in passer rating (93.2) during the regular season. His performance was so impressive that Colts coach Don Shula decided to keep Morrall in the starting lineup after Unitas was healthy enough to play. The Colts had won 10 games in a row, including four shutouts, and finished the season with an NFL-best 13-1 record. Super Bowl III was the third AFL-NFL Championship Game in professional American football, but the first to officially bear the name "Super Bowl". December 31, 1983 SEA 27 MIA 20 Miami Orange Bowl (Miami, FL) Game time: 12:30 pm EST Game weather: 51 °F (11 °C), light rain Referee: Fred Wyant TV announcers (NBC): Marv Albert and Bob Trumpy Game information: The Seahawks converted three turnovers in the second half into 13 points, while running back Curt Warner rushed for 113 yards and 2 touchdowns. Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino threw two touchdown passes in the second quarter: A 19-yard pass to tight end Dan Johnson and a 32-yard pass to wide receiver Mark Duper. Seattle's only score in the first half was quarterback Dave Krieg's 6-yard touchdown pass to running back Cullen Bryant. In the third quarter, a fumble led to Warner's 1-yard touchdown. A fourth quarter interception from Marino then led to Norm Johnson's 27-yard field goal to give Seattle a 17-13 lead. After the Dolphins regained the lead off of running back Woody Bennett's 3-yard touchdown, Seattle responded with Warner's 2-yard touchdown. On the ensuing kickoff, Miami returner Fulton Walker fumbled, setting up Norm Johnson's 37-yard field goal.
(I apologize in advance for the static in this video. The file that I got a hold of apparently didn't like being edited in Windows Movie Maker. If you guys have any suggestions as far as better FREE editing software goes, I will gladly remove this and re-edit it with that program) The 1994 season would be the last season of the Bowl Coalition. The root of the collapse occurred long before the season began. With the Bowl Coalition was first formed, the Rose Bowl refused to participate. This excluded the Big Ten and Pac-10 schools from contention in the Bowl Coalition due to their conferences' contract with the Rose Bowl. In 1993, Penn State left the world of the Independents and joined the Big Ten. In 1994, Penn State was on the verge of an undefeated season. The Nittany Lions finished the season ranked #2 behind the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Because of contractual obligations, Penn State could not be invited to the Orange Bowl to play Nebraska for the national championship. Instead of Penn State, the Bowl Coalition selected the #3 Miami Hurricanes to face off against the #1 Nebraska Cornhuskers. Nebraska, after having lost in the national championship game the previous year, had made it their goal to return to the title game and take it home for Coach Osborne. Nebraska finished the regular season undefeated once again. Because the game was to be played in the Orange Bowl - Miami's home stadium - the Cornhuskers came into the game as only slight favorites. Miami exploded out ...
It didn't take long for the newly minted Bowl Coalition to reveal its imperfections. After its successful debut in 1992, controversy descended upon the Bowl Coalition in 1993 when, late in the season, several events almost destroyed its credibility. It all began on November 13 when #1 Florida State traveled to South Bend, Indiana to take on #2 Notre Dame. After an epic battle, the Seminoles fell to the Irish by the score of 31-24. Notre Dame moved up to #1 and lost its very next game to Boston College by the score of 41-39. Notre Dame and FSU had finished 1993 with identical records. Notre Dame won the head to head match up but had lost later in the season. In a move that caused much controversy, the Bowl Coalition decided to invite Florida State and not Notre Dame to the Orange Bowl to play for the national championship. What made this decision even more controversial was the fact that Notre Dame and Florida State weren't even ranked in the Top 2 in one of the major polls. The Coaches Poll had undefeated Nebraska and undefeated West Virginia ranked #1 and #2. Nevertheless, the Orange Bowl would feature #1 Florida State taking on #2 Nebraska for the national championship. While it was true that Nebraska was undefeated, the media showed the Cornhuskers no love at all. 11-1 Florida State was considered by most in the media to be superior to Nebraska and were therefore given the #1 ranking instead of the undefeated Huskers. Vegas, too, had a hard time believing in Nebraska ...

DORITOS Superbowl 2010 Commercial {720p HD} A very funny commercial made by Doritos, went on air on Superbowl 2010. Superbowl Stats: Super Bowl XLIV was an American football game pitting the American Football Conference (AFC) champion Indianapolis Colts against the National Football Conference (NFC) champion New Orleans Saints to decide the National Football League (NFL) champion for the 2009 season. The New Orleans Saints defeated the Indianapolis Colts by a score of 3117, earning their first Super Bowl win. Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who completed 32 of 39 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns, was named the Super Bowl MVP.[7] His 32 completions tied a Super Bowl record set by Tom Brady in Super Bowl XXXVIII. The game was played at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida on February 7, 2010, the latest calendar date for a Super Bowl yet. The game was the Saints' first Super Bowl appearance and the fourth for the Colts franchise. Coincidentally, all four of the Colts' Super Bowl games have been played in Miami, with their first two games in the former Miami Orange Bowl and the last two in the current Miami stadium (which has changed names several times since its opening, most recently in January 2010). The Saints entered the game with a 133 record for the 2009 regular season, compared to the Colts' 142 record. In the playoff games, both teams placed first in their respective conferences. It was the first time since Super Bowl XXVIII (16 years previously) that ...

Golden Game for Hurricanes Miami, Fla. 31 Nebraska 30 January 2, 1984 Orange Bowl Stadium In arguably the greatest college football bowl game ever played, Miami won its first national championship, 31-30, after Nebraska missed a two-point conversion attempt in the 50th anniversary Orange Bowl Classic. The Huskers had pulled within one with 48 seconds to play, but Miami strong safety Ken Calhoun stepped in front of a Turner Gill attempted two-point conversion pass to preserve the win. Coming into the game, the 11-0 top-ranked Huskers were the favorites, but they quickly found themselves on the short end of a 17-0 score after UM freshman quarterback Bernie Kosar, who passed for 300-yards threw two touchdowns to his tight end Glenn Dennison. The first Husker points came on a second period Dean Steinkuhler's controversial 19-yard "fumblerooskie" play. Gill took the snap from center and dropped the ball on the ground, an intentional fumble. The offensive line went to the right except for Steinkuhler, who pulled to his left, picked up the ball and rambled around left end for the score. The Huskers added a 1-yard Gill run to close the gap to 17-14. A Nebraska field goal tied it at 17 in the third, but Alonzo Highsmith and Albert Bentley scored touchdowns at the end of long Kosar-led drives. Nebraska responded at the close of the third with a Jeff Smith 1-yard run and, after UM missed a field goal in the fourth, Smith ran it in from the 24 with :48 on the clock. Then, the ...

It was the appropriate ending for what was a magical 2009 season for the Iowa Hawkeyes. (Images owned by Collegiate Images, LLP) After being invited to play in the FedEx Orange Bowl on Jan. 5, the Hawkeyes made the most of their invitation to Miami, defeating ACC champion Georgia Tech, 24-14. Iowas 11-2 record tied with that of the 2002 season for the best in Hawkeye history. The Hawkeyes also won a major bowl for the first time since claiming the 1959 Rose Bowl over California. During the season, Iowa thrived in the second half. But against the Yellow Jackets, the Hawkeyes set the tone first. On Iowas second offensive series, the Hawkeyes marched down the field for a score when junior quarterback Ricky Stanzi found sophomore wide receiver Marvin McNutt for a 4-yard touchdown pass. The key play was Stanzi hitting senior tight end Tony Moeaki for a 54-yard completion that took the Hawkeyes to the Georgia Tech 9-yard line. Iowa scored again after a Yellow Jacket 3-and-out, when Stanzi found junior wideout Colin Sandeman for a 21-yard strike. At that point, the Hawkeyes led 14-0. We knew they were going have to have long drives to score, Moeaki said. We wanted to start fast, and thats what we did. While the offense put up points, the Hawkeye defense put on a clinic. Coming into the Orange Bowl, Georgia Tech had not punted in its previous two contests, against Georgia and in the ACC championship against Clemson. Iowa forced the Yellow Jackets to punt on each of their first ...
Great balance by Cleveland Gary to score the final TD of this game, and the first in his Canes career, to nudge the final score to 31-4. Kerwin Bell injures his shoulder and is replaced by 5th year senior Pepe Lescano, who is picked by Donald Ellis in the end zone, Ellis' second interception of the quarter. True freshman Craig Erickson makes his Canes debut on the final possession, throwing deep with a few seconds left. I bet Jimmy Johnson wouldn't have minded a bit if that had connected and been remembered as the final act in the annual series, considering the circumstances. Johnson was carried off the field. Nice to see a game in the era before the always clever Gatorade dunking of the head coach.

On January 1, 1965 Alabama played Texas in the Orange Bowl and I do not care what the score was because Joe Namath scored. Yes the Referees said that he didnt. Bear Bryant said about the Namath Quarterback Sneak. "Just before the game ended, Joe got us to the Texas goal, and on a fourth-down quarterback keep he came that close to winning it. Tommy Nobis met him head on. Our guys thought he scored. Afterward, one of the writers asked me who called the play. I said I had (I always call the ones that don't work.) He said, 'How can a $12000-a-year coach call the plays for a $400000 quarterback?' I admitted he had a point." -- Alabama coach Paul "Bear" Bryant, "Bear," Bryant with John Underwood, 1974 The National Championship game in Pasadena will be Texas against Alabama but the outcome will be different from the 1965 Orange Bowl game. The facts are things are very different, Nick Sabin earns $4000000 + a year and he has a Board of Directors coaching and calling the plays and he is the Chairman of the Board. He is doing a fantastic job bringing Alabama back to number 1. Im sure that Bear Bryant is smiling from his coachs tower in Heaven knowing that Alabama will beat Texas this time for the National Championship. Texas you dont have Tommy Nobis this year but Alabama has Mount Cody, Rolando McClain and Javier Arenas that leads a great defense. On offense Bama has Julio Jones, Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram, Calvin Peak, Mount Cody, Greg McElroy, who has never lost a game as ...

The Chargers score a dramatic, 41-38 victory in overtime over Miami Dolphins at the Orange Bowl. Trailing with just 58 seconds left, Dan Fouts hit James Brooks on a nine-yard TD pass to tie the game. Despite suffering from severe cramps, Kellen Winslow recorded a playoff record 13 receptions for 166 yards and a touchdown. He also blocked a field goal to prevent the Dolphins from winning the game. Rolf Benirschkes 27-yard field goal after 13:52 of overtime gives San Diego the victory. The team is greeted by thousands of ecstatic fans in the stadium parking lot upon its return.

Oklahoma 48 Duke 21 January 1, 1958 Orange Bowl Sooners Flurry Breaks Open Game Fourth-ranked Oklahoma unleashed a furious attack in the fourth quarter, scoring 27 unanswered points to break open a close game with Duke. With the score 21-14, Oklahoma capitalized on three Duke miscues, scoring three times in the next 3:23 and turning this one into a 48-21 rout. A crowd of 76561 was on hand. Duke, which began the season 5-0 but slipped to 6-2-2, was replacing probation-plagued NC State. The fourth-quarter disaster began for Duke when it tried a trick play that had been designed at halftime. Center Wade Byrd got mixed up on the fake kick call and centered the ball to halfback George Dutrow. The ball hit Dutrow in the chest and shot into the hands of Oklahoma fullback Dennit Morris. Two plays later, Jakie Sandefer took it 4 yards for a Sooner score. Following a Duke fumble and blocked kick, the Sooners used the combination of Brewster Hobby to David Baker and Baker to Hobby for two more scores. In the first quarter, Baker's 94-yard interception return of a Bob Brodhead pass gave the Sooners a 7-0 lead and marked the longest such return in Orange Bowl history. The night's scoring ended on a similar play-a 68-yard interception returns that Bennett Watts stole and pitched a lateral to Dick Carpenter at the Duke 30. Although Oklahoma was penalized 150 yards and turned the ball over four times, it was never a factor in the game. Duke could not capitalize on three Sooner ...
Oklahoma 21 Syracuse 6 January 1, 1959 Orange Bowl Stadium Big Plays Propel Sooners Oklahoma hit Syracuse with three "homerun" plays, and was fortunate to escape the Silver Anniversary Orange Bowl with a 21-6 win. Syracuse dominated the Sooners in every category, including total yardage. Oklahoma utilized their team speed and scored before the game was yet three minutes old. Fullback Prentice Gautt took a pitchout and went 42 yards around left end for the score. A more spectacular long play came with 2:56 remaining in the initial quarter. Following a Syracuse fumble deep in Oklahoma territory, right halfback Brewster Hobby took a lateral and passed to Ross Coyle in the flat. Coyle took off on a 79-yard touchdown sprint and the Sooners had a 14-0 lead. Each team's defense frustrated the other's offense. Late in the third, Hobby got through Syracuse's punt coverage and returned the football 40 yards for a 21-0 lead. Syracuse scored its only points in the fourth on a 69-yard drive that ended in Mark Weber's 15-yard run.
The 2001 FedEx Orange Bowl National Championship game pitted Heisman Trophy winner Chris Weinke of Florida State against Oklahomas Josh Heupel, the Heisman runner-up, but the true battle was on the defensive side of the ball. The Sooners defense held Florida State to 301 yards, far below their average of 549. The Seminoles best chance to score came midway through the second quarter. Kicker Brett Cimorelli missed from 30 yards out and the Sooners maintained their 3-0 lead into the second half. Oklahoma led 6-0 when All-American linebacker Rocky Calmus forced Chris Weinke to fumble near the Seminoles 20 midway through the fourth quarter. Sophomore safety Roy Williams recovered for the Sooners, and they quickly scored a touchdown to make it 13-0. A bad snap in the final minute of the game resulted in a safety, saving the Seminoles from their first shut out since in 1988.
Texas 21 Alabama 17 January 1, 1965 Orange Bowl Stadium First Night Game a Classic Texas upset top-ranked Alabama, 21-17, in the first prime-time night game in Orange Bowl history. The Longhorns stopped Alabama quarterback Joe Namath inches short of the goal line on a crucial fourth-down play late in the game that would have given the Crimson Tide the lead. The defeat overshadowed a heroic performance by Namath, the senior quarterback who didn't start the game because of a knee injury. He completed 18 of 37 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns and was named the game's Most Valuable Player. Steve Sloan started the game for the Tide, but he couldnt get the offense going following two missed field goals. The Longhorns' Ernie Koy ran for a 79 yard for a touchdown on Texas first possession. Texas went up 14-0 after quarterback Jim Hudson hit George Sauer for a 69-yard score. Alabama head coach Bear Bryant needed some instant offense. In came Namath. He completed 10 passes in driving the Tide 87 yards, sewing up a touchdown with a 7-yard toss to Wayne Trimble. Texas came back with a 72 yard drive that ended on Koy's right-end run with 27 seconds remaining in the half. Namath came out firing after intermission, hitting Ray Perkins with a 20-yard pass to close the gap to 21-14 with 9:25 left in the third. When Texas' Marvin Kristynik fumbled at his own 34 late in the fourth quarter, Namath was at the controls once again. After a run and a pair of completed passes, Alabama had ...
Florida State rallied to score 17 late fourth-quarter points in Orange Bowl Stadium, beating Notre Dame, 31-26. With quarterback Danny Kanell tossing four touchdown passes—three to Florida State MVP Andre Cooper—Florida State won its NCAA-record 11th consecutive bowl and finished an unprecedented ninth consecutive season with 10 or more victories. Kanell, who threw for 290 yards on the night, closed the gap to 26-21 on an 11-yard touchdown pass to wideout EG Green. The drive covered 73 yards and included a pair of runs by Warrick Dunn that netted 17 yards. Notre Dame punted on its next series, and the Seminoles Dee Feaster returned it 41 yards to the Fighting Irish 30. It took Kanell just 1:39 to get into the end zone on a three-yard touchdown to Cooper. Kanell and Cooper hooked up again on the two-point conversion and the Seminoles were suddenly out in front, 29-26, with 6:09 left. A Notre Dame fumble and a Krug safety made the final score 31-26.
