In this fascinating documentary the Reger specialist Henrico Stewen explains and illustrates the reasons for his interpretation and choice of instrument for his CD recording at the Sauer organ of the Thomaskirche in Leipzig. More info on the CD on www.henricostewen.com. Dr. Henrico Stewen (born Henrico Marcel Punt, 1970, Holland) has a Soloist Diploma in Organ Performance from the Amsterdam Conservatory (teachers Jacques van Oortmerssen, Hans Davidsson, and Hans van Nieuwkoop). In 2009 he received the Doctor of Music degree from the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki for his practice-based research on the performance of Max Reger's organ music and the aspect of tempo (writing and five recitals). Stewen works as a concert organist and church musician, and gives lectures and master classes. His book The Straube Code: Deciphering the Metronome Marks in Max Reger's Organ Music, published by the Sibelius Academy in 2008, has gained much international attention.

High-quality MP3: www.contrebombarde.com "Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme" is one of six Schübler chorales by Bach. It is also known as "Sleepers, Awake!". It is a personal favorite of mine, and I'm thrilled to have it worked up and recorded. Ton Koopman's recording was a source of inspiration for me, a fact that is evident in my tempo and ornamentation. It is often performed at a slower tempo, which I enjoy very much. However, the faster tempo gives the piece a cheerful, bright sound that I just couldn't resist. The choice of instrument was a no-brainer in this case. The Bovenkerk Hinsz organ by Milan Digital Audio renders this piece perfectly with its clear flutes, baroque reeds, and lush acoustic. Fantasia for pipe organ, build on the single chord of C major. To be used for Xmas for example. performed on Molller 1951 pipe organ with hauptwerk-III. The challenge that I had been led this time consisted in writing a piece of several minutes using only the same harmony (a chord of C major), from the beginning to the end. It was not evident. I shall publish the sheet music in a few days, I hope that you will enjoy and play it. Fantaisie pour orgue bâtie uniquement sur un accord de Do majeur; initialement prévue pour une messe de Noël. "The organ music is in a sense one of the main characters in the motion picture TROUBLED WATER. Possessing a distinct personality and playing a unique role the music interacts with the drama and influences the other characters. Working on the script brought me to Iver Kleive. His experience in church music and the influence of jazz was a perfect match for the characters. Recording Simon & Garfunkels Bridge over troubled waters in Bergen Cathedral left a powerful and lasting impression on me." - Erik Poppe, director. The official soundtrack featuring the organ music from the motion picture deUSYNLIGE (eng: Troubled Waters) is now available as hybrid SACD and HiRes FLAC audio files from www.2L.no

Pipe Organ Music hymn "The Spirit of God" played by Alena Hall at the University of Utah Libby Gardner Concert Hall. Courtesy of www.ldsmusic.net Hymns, The Spirit of God, no. 2 1. The Spirit of God like a fire is burning! The latter-day glory begins to come forth; The visions and blessings of old are returning, And angels are coming to visit the earth. [Chorus] We'll sing and we'll shout with the armies of heaven, Hosanna, hosanna to God and the Lamb! Let glory to them in the highest be given, Henceforth and forever, Amen and amen! 2. The Lord is extending the Saints' understanding, Restoring their judges and all as at first. The knowledge and power of God are expanding; The veil o'er the earth is beginning to burst. 3. We'll call in our solemn assemblies in spirit, To spread forth the kingdom of heaven abroad, That we through our faith may begin to inherit The visions and blessings and glories of God. 4. How blessed the day when the lamb and the lion Shall lie down together without any ire, And Ephraim be crowned with his blessing in Zion, As Jesus descends with his chariot of fire! Text William W. Phelps, 1792--1872. Included in the first LDS hymnbook, 1835. Sung at the Kirtland Temple dedication in 1836. Music: Anon., ca. 1844 D&C 109:79--80 D&C 110

Pipe Organ Music hymn "Jesus Once of Humble Birth" played by Alena Hall at the University of Utah Libby Gardner Concert Hall. Courtesy of www.ldsmusic.net Jesus, Once of Humble Birth, no. 196 1. Jesus, once of humble birth, Now in glory comes to earth. Once he suffered grief and pain; Now he comes on earth to reign. Now he comes on earth to reign. 2. Once a meek and lowly Lamb, Now the Lord, the great I Am. Once upon the cross he bowed; Now his chariot is the cloud. Now his chariot is the cloud. 3. Once he groaned in blood and tears; Now in glory he appears. Once rejected by his own, Now their King he shall be known. Now their King he shall be known. 4. Once forsaken, left alone, Now exalted to a throne. Once all things he meekly bore, But he now will bear no more. But he now will bear no more. Text Parley P. Pratt, 1807--1857 Music: Giacomo Meyerbeer, 1791--1864, adapted Luke 2:7 Matthew 25:31

Courtesy of www.ldsmusic.net Hymns, Abide with Me; 'Tis Eventide, no. 165 1. Abide with me; 'tis eventide. The day is past and gone; The shadows of the evening fall; The night is coming on. Within my heart a welcome guest, Within my home abide. [Chorus] O Savior, stay this night with me; Behold, 'tis eventide. O Savior, stay this night with me; Behold, 'tis eventide. 2. Abide with me; 'tis eventide. Thy walk today with me Has made my heart within me burn, As I communed with thee. Thy earnest words have filled my soul And kept me near thy side. 3. Abide with me; 'tis eventide, And lone will be the night If I cannot commune with thee Nor find in thee my light. The darkness of the world, I fear, Would in my home abide. Text Lowrie M. Hofford Music: Harrison Millard, 1830--1895 Luke 24:29 (13--32)
