This presentation is an introduction to Pareto Charts, the Pareto Principal, the 80-20 rule, and how Pareto charts can save you time and make your life easier. Pareto charts are one of the seven basic quality tools and we explain the power of the Pareto principle and how it is used to analyze and eliminate the problems you face. How to focus on the vital few to eliminate the majority of your problems as Juran has applied the Pareto principle to the world of Quality. Everybody can apply this beautiful principle in their lives and save time and frustration.

The new Gauge data region is most often used to provide a high-level summary of your data by highlighting key performance indicator (KPI) values. The gauge uses a pointer to show a single value. You can add a range to highlight a subset of values on your scale and control the size and positioning of the scale on the gauge to create different visual effects. The new Chart data region supports a richer set of data visualization features. The new chart types include bar/column cylinder, pyramid, funnel, polar, radar, stock, candlestick, range column, range bar, smooth area, smooth line, stepped line, and box plot chart types. There is also built-in support for Pareto and Histogram charts. There are many more enhancements that have been made to the charting functionality, so check out the BOL link below and read all about them along with other new features. Read more about this in the SQL Server 2008 BOL 'What's New in Report Authoring' (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/bb630399(SQL.100).aspx).

Quality control is directly dependent on the accuracy of measurements. Consequently, the instruments used to measure impact the accuracy and maintainability of quality assurance. As a result, a set of seven quantitative tools has been established which help to achieve and preserve a desired level of quality.
This is Ramli's Video Journey-Thoughts of Ramli Abu Hassan's series. The 12th Malaysian General Elections have ended and all Winners have been recoqnised and rewarded with new positions as PM,MBs',MPs',ADUNs' etc.. The Rakyat have performed their salient roles and elected the New Govt in Power be it the Federal or State Governments. Soon, the PM will announced his new Cabinet and maybe there will be many new faces and old faces also. So,what's in store for the Rakyat, people like you and me ? As what Dr.J.M.Juran the World's Best Known Quality Guru together with Dr.Deming and Dr.Crosby,he have introduced one of the important mgmt tool known as the Pareto Analysis or Pareto Diagram. This tool was originally developed by Alfredo Pareto but it was Dr.Juran who showed us the methodology and features of using this tool effectively. Dr.Juran mentioned that in any process or situation, there will be this 80:20 Principle where 80% of the problems are caused by 20% of the overall factors or variables. Here he also mean that the 20% or vital few factors can caused or impact the 80% of the problems we faced in our organisation or processes. So,"attack" the vital few factors and we can see the drastic reduction of the problems in hand maybe to a level of 50% overall reduction. In our social strata or population like in Malaysia, maybe it can be said that 80% of the nation's wealth is in the hands of 20% of the population or rakyat. It is also the same in a company, where 20% of the employees are management staff while 80% are non management but there are few exceptions when the company is "top heavy". So,lets hope the nation's wealth will be better distributed to a bigger % of the Rakyat maybe from 80:20 to 60:40 so that 60% of the nation's wealth is now in the hands of 40% of the rakyat and not 20% or worst still 10% etc.. Maybe some statisticians can help US explain or verify this datas for a clearer understanding of this wealth distribution in Malaysia especially and the World at large. For your info: The video shows Malaysia's one cent coins. Dr.Juran recently passed away on 28thFeb,2008 at the age of 103. Shows how at least 26 people can be satisfied in a two party negotiation! This is based on the orange story which is based on Mary Parker Follett. Some authors reference Pareto's optimum chart, while Moore borrows the idea without attribution. I have not yet found an original citation for Pareto being involved in this issue. However, the discussion question is whether this is a demonstration, simulation, game or just a lecture with visual aids? Is it the best way to teach this lesson? Class simulation often fail to reveal underlying interests and creative solutions. This may be a manifestation of the business experience of participants. Repeating simulations that fail in this way may not teach students to ask probing questions as much as this exercise.
