Credits: Trombolicious - Architect, Foreman, Slave Driver Sind Mufasa Is Legit Mr. Godless This was our first attempt at a massive scale reconstruction, a reconstruction of Phidias' Parthenon on a 3:1 scale. The original Parthenon was 228' x 102', with columns 34' high, so the Parthenon we constructed is approximately 3x the size of the original. It took 4 people about 60 hours over 5 days to complete, and took close to 200000 blocks to complete. It was built on a private server without any mods beyond the liberal use of give commands. Most dimensions are as close to the original as our information and square blocks would allow. Also, some artistic liberty was taken with the addition of the glass roof over the Pool of Reflection, and while there was likely a statue there I do not believe the Greeks had discovered Mario yet.

3x Larger than life Parthenon to scale that me and Babayaga20000 built on our SMP server, JefterScape. 1 Block = 1 foot. Over a month of building, over one million blocks used. The result is just stupendous. Barely half of it renders at any time because it is so massive! Built block to block nearly identical to a restored version of the Parthenon. (The statue is a little different however ;) ) And it's underground!!?! Watch for the sneak peak of our next project at the end ;) Watch us BLOW IT UP!! www.youtube.com My Channel: www.youtube.com Babayaga20000's Channel: www.youtube.com
A video with the still pics taken during the construction of this awesome greek monument. I left everything in there, including a couple of design mistakes, later rectified. Building took place on peaceful mode, majority of materials used were dig out by hand. I had enough stone to build everything, but I realized smooth stone doesnt look very good, so i switched to wool, used instead of marble. I edited in the wool, took a couple thousand units so had no intention to punch sheep for next quadrillion years to get it. Obsidian was used were friezes suppose to be and gold ore for the big east and west frieze on the roof. Gold blocks for the dais and gold ore was also edited in, my world is very poor on gold. Building is an exact replica, at 1.5:1 scale, 50% bigger than in reality. Exact is a loosely used term, since one can place blocks only with 1 meter (3 feet) accuracy. I kept however the proportions of the real thing, 9:4. Final dimensions: 47 wide x 99long x 29 height in the middle. Took aproximately 6 weeks to build.

Its decorative sculptures are considered some of the high points of Greek art. The Parthenon is regarded as an enduring symbol of Ancient Greece and of Athenian democracy and one of the world's greatest cultural monuments. The Greek Ministry of Culture is currently carrying out a programme of selective restoration and reconstruction to ensure the stability of the partially ruined structure. The Parthenon itself replaced an older temple of Athena, which historians call the Pre-Parthenon or Older Parthenon, that was destroyed in the Persian invasion of 480 BC. Like most Greek temples, the Parthenon was used as a treasury. For a time, it served as the treasury of the Delian League, which later became the Athenian Empire. In the 6th century AD, the Parthenon was converted into a Christian church dedicated to the Virgin Mary. After the Ottoman Turk conquest, it was turned into a mosque in the early 1460s, and it had a minaret built in it. On 26 September 1687, an Ottoman Turk ammunition dump inside the building was ignited by Venetian ...

A clip from "Glory of the Parthenon" (Composition For Lyre In The Ancient Greek Phrygian Mode). This track is from my new album, "The Ancient Greek Modes"... The concept of this album, is to recreate the both the sounds of the musical modes once used in Ancient Greece (as described in the writings of Plato & Aristotle) & to restore the lost sounds of the ancient Greek Kithara - the large wooden lyre once favoured by the professional musicians of Ancient Greece... THE ANCIENT GREEK MODES The names of musical modes in use today, (eg Dorian, Mixolydian etc) although having the same names as the original Greek musical modes, were actually misnamed during the Middle Ages! Apparently, the Greeks counted intervals from top to bottom. When medieval ecclesiastical scholars tried to interpret the ancient texts, they counted from bottom to top, jumbling the information. The misnamed medieval modes are only distinguished by the ancient Greek modes of the same name, by being labelled Church Modes. It was due to a misinterpretation of the Latin texts of Boethius, that medieval modes were given the wrong Greek names! According to an article on Greece in the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, the original ancient Greek names for species of the octave included the following (on white keys): BB: Mixolydian EE: Dorian AA: Hypodorian DD: Phrygian GG: Hypophrygian CC: Lydian FF: Hypolydian For what Plato & Aristotle themselves had this to say about these ancient musical modes ...
