Haggadah of Angels As in all popular folklore tales, the Haggadah created by Yoel Gilinsky combines naiveté, temptation and violence, which appear at first glance clear and simple, and only gradually are the multiple expressions of its human complexity revealed. The locus of Yoel Gilinsky's creative work is at the seam between the naïve and the sophisticated, the mystic and the earthly. The Angels' Haggadah, a work from this past year (2009) that is currently on display as part of the Jewish Diaspora Museum's exhibition titled Judaica Twist, gives a clear indication of the path that Gilinsky has been following for many years now. One of the challenges facing the illustrator of a text as familiar as the Passover Haggadah is the plethora of paintings and illustrations depicting these traditional scenes, such that it would seem that every possible presentation and interpretation has already been expressed.

It is customary that the four questions for Passover are sung by the youngest child in the family. Everyone is welcome to join along. Singing is good for the soul.
This is a melody i just wrote. The words are from the Passover Haggadah, and the language is Aramaic. I know the sound and video quality aren't that great, and I was looking down at the words too much, rather than facing the camera. Hopefully I'll make a better video by next year. But I wanted to get this out now, in time for people to learn it before this Pesach, which starts Monday night.

Betzalel again reads from the Isbitser Haggadah. The meaning of Pesach
Blessed are We all by the Our Blessed Creator!!! The Nation of Israel is reminded every year of our humble and not so positive beginnings. Yet we have been empowered in the merit of the Patriarchs and Matriarchs of Israel to rise above our humble beginnings. This is not only an instruction for yesteryear but to encourage every human to avoid falling into the trap of thinking they can't rise above his/her circumstances. We can do it if we want to to connect to the Most High in an Eternal Manner

haggadah.co.il Commissioned by private collectors almost ten years ago, Archie Granot's Haggadah was crafted with the goal of evoking the intense emotions attached with the Passover Seder by utilizing geometric and abstract shapes instead of the usual symbols. 55 pages long, every word of Hebrew text in his Haggadah is handcut, with each page standing as both an independent work of art and a single piece of a beautiful, thematically unified whole. Each page tackles a certain aspect or song associated with the Seder, with one piece titled Ma Nishtanah (The Four Questions). Another page of Granots Haggadah is dedicated to representing Pesach, Matzah, Maror (The Passover Offering, the Unleavened Bread and the Bitter Herb), and incorporates shapes that evoke the traditional matzah. Each of the 55 pages in his Papercut Haggadah measures 53cm x38cm (21″ x15″) with some pages weighing more than 5 pounds and exhibits Granot's unique style while fulfilling his goal in representing the emotions of Passover.

Gals and guys, you must have noticed that I haven't been able to reply to comments lately. I'm so sorry for this and of course I will reply to everyone as soon as I can. Thank you and know how much I appreciate your continued support! Part 8: We're shown a clip from the 1984 footage of the Ran Quadruplet. Eytan has a request for Nivo. Some background: The Passover Haggadah tells of "four sons", who are metaphors of four different ways in which one can misinterpret the meaning of Passover: the smart one (who is so preoccupied with doing everything right that he misses the meaning behind the Passover customs), the wicked one (who can't see the relevance of the holiday to his life), the innocent one (who simply can't figure out the meaning of each of the holiday's customs) and the one who doesn't know how to ask questions (who has the capacity to understand the meaning of the holiday's customs, but never learns about it because he simply accepts everything as is). The siblings are asked to participate in the staging of a kids song which treats the "four sons" concept in a very literal way. Because some adults don't think that kids understand the whole idea of a metaphor. Why exactly? I don't know, but I can tell you that when I was a kid, this offended me deeply. Also, I was a geek, to no one's surprise.

The poem "Ki Lo Naeh, Ki Lo Yaeh" ("His The Glory, His The Mildness") is sung after the Passover-reading of the Haggadah (the text read at Passover-Eve, telling about the Israelites going out of ancient Egypt). It is a God praising poem, each phrase begins with the Hebrew letters in a chronological way. Here the unique melody is sung by Rosa Wol, soprano (in her non-operatic voice), after her late grandfather musical-tradition from Ludmir-Poland, east Europe. Ramat-Gan, Passover, April 2009 Translation of the 1st stanza, covering the 3 first letters from the Hebrew alphabet: "His the glory and His the mildness - Powerful in royalty / Gentle like the ways of the Law / What is it that His angel-troopers say to him? Thine and again, Thine, Thine and still more Thine, Thine and only Thine, Thine is the Kingdom, His the Glory, And His the mildness!"
