My first shot at Video blogging. Didn't have much to talk about, so this is my take on the Expendables and Peepli Live. I can't do restaurant reviews on video just yet, but do drop me a line and let me know if theres something specific you'd like me to review or generally blab about.
Aamir Khan Productions' Peepli [Live], which did a net business of approximately Rs 15.50 crore in its opening weekend, saw a considerable drop later. It seems the movie's net collections on Monday was approximately Rs 20 million (Rs 2 crore), taking the total collections for four days to Rs 175 million (Rs 17.50 crore). In the overseas markets, Peepli [Live] collected approximately $350054 (Rs 1.60 crore) in the US on and was released across 64 theaters. In Australia, the movie collected $43213 (approx Rs 20 lakhs) in its opening weekend. The movie will be released at a later date in the UK market. Click on to know more!

Threatened by extreme poverty, they fall upon a novel plan. Natha decides to commit suicide to avail of the Rs one lakh compensation package doled out by the government. But before he can do that, the news spreads like wildfire. The unknown hamlet soon becomes the favourite hunting ground for the voyeuristic news channels, hungry for TRPs, unscrupulous politicians, eyeing their vote banks, fumbling bureaucrats, foxed and clueless about the strange turn of events...Can the farmer's family hope for succour? Is India equipped to handle its swelling population of forgotten and marginalised citizenry? Does Natha survive? Good questions.... Big question: How smart can Indian cinema get? "Initially, we had planned to open with 200 screens. But the reaction to the promos and trailers has been most encouraging. We are trying to react to the perceived demand to the film," said Aamir in a statement. Journalist-turned-director Anusha Rizvi's direcotrial debut, "Peepli Live" was made on a budget of approximately Rs.100 million (including marketing costs) and recovered its investment even before its release by selling its satellite rights for Rs.100 million and music rights for Rs.40 million. "'Peepli Live' has opened extremely well. What is surprising is the reaction from single screens - it opened to almost 90 to 95 percent in single screens," said a source close to Aamir. "As a non-star cast film with A-certificate, trade expected the film to do modest business. However, the film has done bigger business than small films by three times," added the source. The cast of the film didn't have any big names except Naseeruddin Shah. Raipur, August 12 (ANI): After the recent protest by singers of Mehngai Dayain, Aamir Khan's much-awaited 'Peepli Live' has been surrounded by another controversy. This time it involves a plagiarism row over it's yet another song. A well-known folk singer Rama Joshi alleges that a song Chola mati ke Ram, which has been used in the film, does not give credit to Gangaram Siwar, a celebrated folk singer of Chhattisgarh and the original lyricist of the folk song. Sharing these views with the media persons, Rekha Joshi, sister of Rama Joshi said Gangaram Siwar had originally composed the song and there is no second opinion that the song doesn't belongs to Chhattisgarh. Rama Joshi has asked Aamir Khan for remuneration for the song.

Gone are the days when Aamir Khan used to take a dig at Shah Rukh and King Khan used to revert on it. These two Khans have finally left their grievances aside and have become friends again. It is believed that Aamir's new friend Karan Johar played a peacemaker between the two. He enters his office with a smile, apologises and makes himself comfortable on the couch for the interview. Excerpts... • People know you to be inapproachable, but Anusha Rizvi sent you one mail and you agreed to make a film? (Laughs). I don't know why people have this misconception. I was shooting for Mangal Pandey -- The Rising when I got this mail. Anusha had written about a script called The Falling. At first I thought she was making fun of me because I was working on The Rising. But later, she mailed me one line that I loved. I met her when I was in Delhi shooting for Rang de Basanti. She narrated the script of Peepli Live and I loved it. • People say that you have a winning formula for every film you touch? Frankly, I don't have an answer for this. Not concerned with their plight the politician mockingly suggests that the brothers commit suicide and benefit from a government scheme that aids the families of indebted farmers who have done so. Budhia the shrewder of the two immediately encourages Natha a simpleton by nature to think of the greater good of their family and do the needful. Their drunken conversation in a bar is overheard by a journalist. The next day it appears in a local newspaper under the header "A Death Foretold in Peepli Village." The article sparks off a chain of events that reaches the highest corridors of power in India's political machinery. With elections around the corner what would otherwise have been common fare turns into a 'cause celebre' with everybody wanting a piece of the action. From the glitzy television studios in New Delhi to the Agricultural Ministry, journalists, newsmen, local and national politicians descend upon the little village to stake their claim.
