Raipur, August 12 (ANI): After the recent protest by singers of Mehngai Dayain, Aamir Khan's much-awaited 'Peepli Live' has been surrounded by another controversy. This time it involves a plagiarism row over it's yet another song. A well-known folk singer Rama Joshi alleges that a song Chola mati ke Ram, which has been used in the film, does not give credit to Gangaram Siwar, a celebrated folk singer of Chhattisgarh and the original lyricist of the folk song. Sharing these views with the media persons, Rekha Joshi, sister of Rama Joshi said Gangaram Siwar had originally composed the song and there is no second opinion that the song doesn't belongs to Chhattisgarh. Rama Joshi has asked Aamir Khan for remuneration for the song.

Aamir Khan Productions' Peepli Live, is a satire, which revolves around a villager from Central India called Natha,his brother Budhia and their family.The family is about to lose their land because they are unable to repay a loan, when, they hear of a government programme which offers the family of any farmer committing suicide a compensation of rupees 100000 ($2000). The older brother convinces his sibling into agreeing to commit suicide. This sets in motion a chain of events which finds Natha in the eye of a storm. The local big wigs, the state government, high ranking bureaucrats, federal ministers and the national media all become stakeholders in the mad circus that erupts.

"Peepli Live," made by the actor's production company, follows two poor farmers who face losing their land over an unpaid debt after poor monsoon rains. A local politician suggests they commit suicide so their families get compensation. A journalist overhears one of the farmers apparently urging the other to end his own life, triggering a media frenzy about whether he will go through with it, lampooning India's sensationalist television news channels. Critic and film consultant Meenakshi Shedde wrote in the Economic Times newspaper in February that "the film tackles caste, class, politics and media in an explosive cocktail". Comparisons have been drawn to the real-life problem of farmer suicides in rural India, where two out of three of India's 1.1 billion people still live and work. As many as 150000 debt-hit farmers have killed themselves in the past decade, the Tata Institute of Social Sciences said last year. The film is a "savage attack on the media and politicians' response to farmers' suicides," wrote Shedde. But Khan, who does not appear in the film, told a news conference on Thursday: "The film is not about farmer suicides. It is a satirical film...
