National Survey Finds Adults Acting Like Babies When It Comes to Getting Their Shots! Dr. William Schaffner with the Latest News On Vaccines, Advice on What Shot Adults Need Most, and Why the CDC is So Worried According to the CDC, adults unnecessarily risk blistering rashes, chronic pain, flu, fever, long hospital stays and high medical bills: 1. The flu sends more than 200,000 people to the hospital each year and kills more than 35,000.2. 5,000 Americans die every year from pneumonia.3. Shingles causes an excruciatingly painful rash that can lead to chronic nerve pain.4. The violent cough associated with pertussis (whooping cough) can be bad enough to break a rib.5. HPV causes cervical cancer which can be deadly.Vaccines are available to prevent or reduce the risk of these diseases, yet adults overwhelmingly ignore them! Immunizations during adulthood are recommended by the CDC for more than a dozen diseases, yet a recent CDC survey found adult immunization rates woefully low. In addition, a recent survey by the National Foundation of Infectious Diseases (NFID) found that most adults have trouble even naming diseases that they might be able to prevent by getting vaccinated. Dr. William Schaffner, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Preventive Medicine at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and a well-known expert in the fields of vaccines and infectious disease, is available to inform your viewers about the many vaccines that are available to adults and when they need to get them. According to Dr. Schaffner, childhood vaccinations have saved hundreds of thousands of lives in the U.S., but vaccines aren't just for kids. It's time for adults to roll up their sleeves!Dr. Schnaffer also notes that although not all the diseases you can be vaccinated against will kill you, most can be extremely painful or flare up with no warning. And when the usual childhood diseases occur in adults, the effects can be devastating. This interview is provided by Merck & Co., Inc. B-roll footage will be available upon request
Video from www.nvic.org highlighting the lack of research and information about the new controversial vaccine supposed to guard against the papilloma virus. "There are twice as many children collapsing and four times as many children experiencing tingling, numbness and loss of sensation after getting a GARDASIL vaccination compared to those getting a Tdap (tetanus-diphtheria-acellular pertussis) vaccination. There have been reports of facial paralysis and Guillain-Barre Syndrome. And doctors who give GARDASIL in combination with other vaccines are basically conducting an experiment on their young patients because Merck has not published any safety data for simultaneous vaccination with any vaccine except hepatitis B vaccine."(Barbara Loe Fisher)
FDA recently approved two new vaccines that provide a booster immunization against whooping cough, in combination with tetanus and diphtheria immunization. One is called Boostrix and the other is Adacel. Boostrix is approved for use in adolescents age 10 - 18 and it's made by GlaxoSmithKline. Adacel is approved for adolescents and adults up to 64 years of age. It will be distributed by Aventis Pasteur. These two new vaccines are the first ones approved for use in adolescents and adults. Since 1980, the rates of reported pertussis cases have been increasing in adolescents and adults, as well as in young infants. Pertussis can be especially serious or possibly even fatal in these very young infants. So part of the rationale for immunizing adolescents and adults is to make it less likely that they'll transmit the disease to infants. In other words, older people would be immunized to protect children.

The Institute for Safe Medication Practices recently reported on several mix-ups between two vaccines. The first is DAPTACEL, which is diphtheria and tetanus toxoids and acellular pertussis vaccine adsorbed (DTaP). The second is ADACEL, which is tetanus toxoid, reduced diphtheria toxoid, and acellular pertussis vaccine adsorbed (Tdap). Daptacel is used in infants and children 6 weeks to 6 years old for active immunization. Adacel is used for active booster immunization in persons 11 to 64 years old and it is also the first vaccine approved as a pertussis booster for adults. The component antigens in Adacel and Daptacel are the same, so ISMP says this contributes to making them easy to confuse. In one clinic, 13 adults were mistakenly vaccinated with Daptacel. At another clinic, seven adults received Daptacel instead of Adacel. Fortunately, none of the patients appeared to have experienced any unusual vaccine reactions, despite the fact that the pediatric formulation contains greater amounts of both the detoxified pertussis toxin and the diphtheria toxoid. ISMP says that the similarities of the brand names, generic designations, and vaccine abbreviations also probably contribute to the confusion. In addition, these two vaccines have similar packaging - both are Aventis Pasteur products and they come in stylized, colorful cartons of the same size. ISMP makes several recommendations to help prevent mix-ups between these two products. • Verify the patient's age before dispensing or administering any vaccines. • Separate stock of the pediatric and adult formulations and place alerts (e.g., "Adult" or "Pediatric") on the products. • Where feasible, place alerts in computer software to warn practitioners about the differences between the adult and pediatric formulations. • If possible, configure the order entry system to disallow selection of the wrong product based on the patient's age. • Check your computer system to see how the vaccine names are displayed. ISMP says that some commonly used drug references, drug information vendor databases, and drug wholesalers refer to the component antigens of Adacel as "diphtheria, tetanus, and acellular pertussis" rather than the way it is listed on the package label, with tetanus toxoid first. If that's the case, it could increase the chance for confusion. Pharmacists may also have difficulty finding the correct product when entering orders and selecting medications. And pharmacy generated labels may list the components differently from the way they're listed by the manufacturer.

Actress and New Mom Keri Russell Joins PKIDs to launch "Silence the Sounds of Pertussis" Campaign Keri Russell Shares Personal Experience about Protecting Kids from a Deadly but Vaccine-Preventable Disease Parents of Kids with Infectious Diseases (PKIDs) today announced the launch of its national educational campaign "Silence the Sounds of Pertussis" with actress and new mom Keri Russell. The campaign sounds the alarm about the dangers of pertussis and alerts parents to the need for everyone coming into close contact with young babies, especially family members, to be vaccinated against pertussis to prevent transmission of the disease. On the rise, pertussis is a highly contagious and potentially deadly bacterial infection that is particularly dangerous for babies. Commonly known as whooping cough, pertussis is marked by the "whoop" sound made when gasping for breath after a severe coughing attack. Coughing can last for weeks and can be so severe that it is hard for babies to eat, drink or breathe. In recent years, more than half of babies infected with pertussis were hospitalized, and 90% of pertussis-associated deaths have been among babies less than six month old.

Our Son caught Whooping Cough (Bordetella Pertussis) at 2 days old from Blacktown Hospital. We were in a private room an only had a couple of visitors - we believe it was contracted from staff at the Hospital - Though their investigation failed to find anything. We were home for a matter of hours b4 Ashton became lifeless and went to Westmead Childrens by Ambo. There he stopped breathing and spent 5 days in PICU. He is all good now & we want to thank all our friends and Family for their support.

__Expand to see INDEX__ For years, drug companies (pharmaceuticals AKA Big Pharma) have been taking the public for a costly ride and making a killing in the process -- seriously, a lot of people are dying as a result. In this documentary, find out how Big Pharma's clever politics and marketing schemes are tailored specifically to empty out our bank accounts and force us to sell-off our homes if need be, for drugs that would otherwise cost a few pesos elsewhere in the world. But it doesn't stop there: With so much profit potential glistening in their eyes, these companies have little incentive to provide cures. Rather, they recycle old drugs, modifying them ever so slightly (often resulting in deadly cocktails), for the single purpose of acquiring new patents; thus, renewing their monopoly over pricing. But that's only the beginning (see the video for more info)... _______________________________________ 1. Cheryl Hines, mom and film and television actor, and her mother urge other moms to get Tdap, the whooping cough booster vaccine, for themselves and their family. Whooping cough (medically known as pertussis) has been on the rise nationwide, and causes coughing fits that can last for months and affect breathing, eating and sleeping. The childhood vaccine that protects against whooping cough wears off, so adolescents and adults need a whooping cough booster vaccine to protect themselves and prevent the spread of infection to infants, who can suffer the most severe complications, even death.
