www.naturalchild.org best viewed in full screen !! In 24 countries around the world, it is illegal for a parent, teacher, or anyone else to spank a child, and 113 countries prohibit corporal punishment in schools.1 Yet in all of North America, physical punishment by a parent, as long as it is not severe, is still seen by many as necessary discipline, and condoned, or sadly, even encouraged. For the past several years, many psychiatrists, sociological researchers, and parents have recommended that we seriously consider banning the physical punishment of children. The most important reason, according to Dr. Peter Newell, coordinator of the organization End Punishment of Children (EPOCH)2, is that "all people have the right to protection of their physical integrity, and children are people too."3 1. Hitting children teaches them to become hitters themselves. Extensive research data is now available to support a direct correlation between corporal punishment in childhood and aggressive or violent behavior in the teenage and adult years. Virtually all of the most dangerous criminals were regularly threatened and punished in childhood. It is nature's plan that children learn attitudes and behaviors through observation and imitation of their parents' actions, for good or ill. Thus it is the responsibility of parents to set an example of empathy and wisdom.

For 25 years, American Artist LR Emerson II considered any medium fair game in his personal challenge to create new approaches for the unusual multidirectional designs. My undergraduate work focused intensely on printmaking, photography, and digital manipulation. Gustave Verbeeka d Peter Newell would surely be impressed. From intaglio, linoleum block printing, monoprinting, and collography my multidirectional art works took on diverse appearances and each subsequent design serves as best evidence of the dramatic evolution my style underwent over the years. (Emerson, 2009) LR engaged entirely new avenues of inventive thinking, as he submerged his imagery not only into printmaking processes but more accommodatingly technology. With the advent of digital manipulation and Emersons interest and pursuit thereof, he was able to develop specific styles of art-making not known to many artists worldwide. LRs summers were spent honing the coursework discoveries which had defined his direction. Emerson had enjoyed programming computers as a teenager and had been trained as a desktop publisher. Id bore witness to the computers overtake of modern publishing and overhaul of the entire processes of hand-worked, graphic design. (Emerson, 2009) So where best to sequester the technological advancement, but for his art? Technology had become the stronger calling. Being of Irish descent on two sides of my family, LR termed the upside-down, compositional style Masg from Gaelic, meaning to mix ...

(Emerson, 2009) So where best to sequester the technological advancement, but for his art? Technology had become the stronger calling. Being of Irish descent on two sides of my family, LR termed the upside-down, compositional style Masg from Gaelic, meaning to mix, or infuse. Emerson believes Masg best exemplifies the multidirectional, compositional paradigm enacted when: one merges shapes and forms with a primary consideration for multiple presentations. To make a Masg styled work one must design in anticipation of multiple points of view. Certainly, a great deal of experimentation and alteration has occurred over the past two decades as would be expected with any invention and what has transpired from my effort has left me breathless and eternally grateful. (Emerson, 2009)
Upside-Down Art is NOT Upsidedownism. Instead Upside-Down Art is known as Masg, Gaelic: to mix; or infuse. To make a Masg styled work one must design in anticipation of multiple points of view. Certainly, a great deal of experimentation and alteration has occurred over the past two decades as would be expected with any invention and what has transpired from my effort has left me breathless and eternally grateful. (Emerson, 2009)
"I am undoubtedly convinced, within the timeline of art-making, the upside-down Masg art style is an invention warranting the commendation of being called either a new art movement or at minimum a new art style." Lakers: 130 Warriors: 97 lakers win easily and improve their record to 12-3. Their next game is Sunday vs the New Jersey Nets who are one loss from tying the worst start in NBA history. Kobe Bryant sat at his locker and praised Pau Gasol, both of Bryants feet in an ice bucket and two more bags numbing each knee. On a night when Bryant was far from his dominant self, Gasol showed what a key piece he is for the Los Angeles Lakers despite being overshadowed by superstars. They dearly missed him for the first 11 games, when Gasol was sidelined with a strained right hamstring. Gasol scored 22 points to lead seven players in double figures and also had 12 rebounds, and the Lakers won their fifth straight game with a 130-97 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night. Paus just being Pau, Bryant said. Hes one of the best in the game. We missed that. Ron Artest added 19 points, five rebounds and four assists, and Bryant had 20 points, six rebounds, six assists and five steals after a slow start to help the Lakers to their highest point total of the season. Los Angeles had plenty of offensive power to beat the Warriors for a sixth straight time, getting 13 points and five assists from Derek Fisher and 12 points and seven boards from Andrew Bynum. Reserve Shannon Brown added 17 points, including two spectacular dunks. Monta Ellis scored 18 points and Corey Maggette had 17 points and six rebounds in Golden States third straight game without ill coach Don Nelson, who is ...

Stay tuned for much, much more from Coaches Tex Winter, Bill Guthridge, Dean Smith, Pete Newell, and more! These interviews are priceless records of the history of basketball and should serve to preserve what is fast becoming the lost art of fundamental basketball.
