The University of Maine at Farmington has a long, storied history of offering pre-professional programs in the field of Education. But Farmington also has a rich tradition of preparing students for entrance to professional and graduate schools: Medical School, Law School, Business School, Dental School, Pharmacy School, Optometry School, Veterinary School, and Graduate School. Because these schools recognize the intrinsic value of traditional liberal arts education, there are typically no set lists of courses making up a pre-med, pre-law, or pre-MBA program. Here, we've developed individualized course "tracks" in each pre-professional area -- specific courses identified as ideal for meeting the entrance requirements of each type of school. In addition, you'll meet regularly with specially-selected Pre-Med, Pre-Law, and Pre-MBA faculty advising teams. These caring and knowledgeable professors and practicing adjunct faculty will work closely with you to tailor your course selections, help prepare you for the entrance exams (MCAT, LSAT, etc.) and the application process, and expose you to the specialty of your choosing. From Ivy League universities to prestigious research institutions, Farmington students are regularly accepted to some of the finest medical schools, law schools, MBA programs, and graduate schools in the nation. Those schools know from experience that Farmington's rigorous Liberal Arts foundation and specialized pre-professional advising gives our graduates ...

www.uclan.ac.uk/scitech A young audience attended a show with a difference where they were encouraged to discover the secrets behind magic. More than 400 children, from 12 schools around Lancashire, took part in a free Science Festival at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). The two hour event took the audience through the most interesting and entertaining discoveries science has to offer. The Chemistry Magic Show featured a variety of mind-boggling experiments and demonstrations of dragons breathing fire, creating a miniature sun and an exploding volcano. Dr Joanna Heaton and Senior Technician Sal Tracey, in the Faculty of Science and Technology, Dr Rob Smith, Lecturer in the School of Forensic and Investigative Sciences, and Dr Tim Snape, Lecturer in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, performed the tricks dressed as wizards. Dr Heaton, Educational Liaison Co-ordinator, explained: "The tricks demonstrate important chemical reactions but under the guise of magic. We hope that demonstrating the excitement and drama of science will encourage more children to consider studying science later on in their education. Earlier in the year the University ran its first science magic show for local schools and due to the overwhelming success, it has continued with larger events.
