Our first ascent of the year. Benjamin did much better than he did last year, though we got a late start, had much snow to cross, and got delayed for an hour by lightning at the summit.

It began at 1036m and headed continually UPHILL, ending at the top of the Plan Praz lift, a mere 2016m/6614'. We're talking 23 kilometers/14.2 miles of uphill. The only race I can think of that's more difficult is the Pikes Peak marathon with a 7815' ascent but at least they finish the Marathon running downhill. Took the Plaz Praz gondola up to watch the finish and watched the winner, Martin Echitler of Germany do an incredible time of of 1:56:42. It was emotionally exhausting watching the runners struggle up the hill. One last race to watch tomorrow, the 2009 Chamonix Marathon.
