The interstate aviation committee has revealed the crew applied the brakes during take off causing a plane crash in Russia that killed 44 people in September. Investigators say the crew had little flight experience in the aircraft model involved - and that this inexperience could have caused the fatal mistake. The second pilot also showed traces of a strong sedative in his system. The findings also said that the pilot was suffering from a condition that affected his movement and coordination. An ultra-light plane crashed into a Ferris wheel at a rural festival in eastern Australia on Saturday, trapping two children on the ride and two people in the aircraft for hours. There were no serious injuries. The Cheetah S200 carrying two men did not topple the Ferris wheel when it hit the frame near the top on the first morning of an annual three-day festival at Old Bar, a coastal village 220 miles (350 kilometres) north of Sydney. Two children were trapped in a carriage at the top of the wheel near the wrecked plane for 90 minutes. The 53-year-old pilot and his 32-year-old passenger were trapped inside the mangled aircraft more than 30 feet (10 meters) above the ground for almost three hours. The plane spiralled out of control and came down into crowds in the stands, disintegrating upon impact. Eyewitnesses reported scores of blooded bodies at the scene after the tragedy occurred. The injured have been rushed to hospital. Out of 56 people hurt, 15 are said to be in a critical condition. Mike Houghton, president and CEO of the Reno Air Races, told a news conference that pilot Jimmy Leeward had died in the crash, Associated Press reports. The 74-year-old veteran Hollywood stunt pilot was the owner of the Leeward Air Ranch Racing Team and a well-known racing pilot. Leeward's "Galloping Ghost" plane was a P-51 Mustang fighter -- a class of plane that can fly at speeds in excess of 500 mph (800kph). Houghton said there appeared to be a "problem with the aircraft that caused it to go out of control".

(AP) -- A World War II-era fighter plane flown by a veteran Hollywood stunt pilot plunged Friday into the edge of the grandstands during a popular air race, killing three people, injuring more than 50 spectators and creating a horrific scene strewn with smoking debris. The plane, piloted by 74-year-old Jimmy Leeward, spiraled out of control without warning and appeared to disintegrate upon impact. Bloodied bodies were spread across the area as people tended to the victims and ambulances rushed to the scene. Authorities were investigating the cause, but an official with the event said there were indications that mechanical problems were to blame. Maureen Higgins of Alabama, who has been coming to the air races for 16 years, said the pilot was on his third lap when he lost control. She was sitting about 30 yards away from the crash and watched in horror as the man in front of her started bleeding after debris hit him in the head. "I saw body parts and gore like you wouldn't believe it. I'm talking an arm, a leg," Higgins said "The alive people were missing body parts. I am not kidding you. It was gore. Unbelievable gore." As the Lokomotiv squad employed several top foreign players, their compatriots are coming to express their support and feelings for the deceased. The Russian top-flight club included three players from the Czech Republic and two Ukrainians, as well as athletes from Belarus, Canada, Germany, Latvia, Slovakia and Sweden.
