Navy Fighter Squadron 92 returning to Naval Air Station Miramar, San Diego, California. The squadron was part of Carrier Air Wing 9 embarked in the carrier USS Constellation (CVA-64) and was completing the second of two, nine month combat deployments to Southeast Asia. The pilot being welcomed home by his wife, Maryanne, is Russell Ogle, Clairemont High, Class of 1960. A salute to those who did not return form their final flight: CDR Harry Blackburn (KIA) LT Bruce Rowe (KIA) LT Jim Hook (Plane crash at sea) LT Oilworth (Plane crash at sea) LT Austin Hawkins (Civil plane crash) LT "Soupy" Campbell (Unknown cause) They were all great friends and flying companions and I miss them to this day.

THOMAS WATKINS (AP) LOS ANGELES — The US Coast Guard and Navy were searching early Friday for as many as nine people off the Southern California coast following a collision between a Coast Guard plane and a Marine Corps helicopter, officials said. The crash was reported at 7:10 pm Thursday, about 50 miles off the San Diego County coast and 15 miles east of San Clemente Island, Coast Guard spokeswoman Petty Officer Allyson Conroy said. A pilot reported seeing a fireball near where the aircraft collided, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said, and the Coast Guard informed the FAA that debris from a C-130 had been spotted. Seven people were on board the plane, a C-130, and two people were aboard the helicopter, he said. Cpl Michael Stevens, a spokesman for the Miramar Marine Corps Air Station, said the AH-1W Super Cobra helicopter was on a training mission when it went down. The Cobra and its crew are part of Marine Aircraft Group 39, based at Camp Pendleton, and the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, which is headquartered at Miramar, Stevens said. The missing Coast Guard plane and its crew are from Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento, said Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class Jetta Disco. PSA Flight 182 crashed in San Diego, California in 1978, following a collision with a Cessna 172. It was a Boeing 727-200 crowded with 120 passengers and 13 crew. The PSA never saw the Cessna and accidentally hit the oncomming traffic. 144 total lay dead (133 on the PSA) (2 on the Cessna) (7 on the ground). For a few months it was the worst plane crash in the United States.

Besenyei was required to make an emergency landing near St Thomas Airport in Ontario during a photo shoot and the damage could not be repaired in time for the Windsor race. Thanks to his skilled piloting, the Hungarian pilot, who got a season-high fourth place in San Diego, walked away with only a few bruises and was not otherwise injured. I was doing a flight with Nigel to take some pictures and during the final run I had a technical problem, Besenyei said. I lost oil pressure, which in the end caused the engine to fail, and I had to make a forced landing outside the field. The plane is damaged but I can repair it. The most important thing is that there was no injury. Im 100 percent okay and thats the most important thing. Besenyei will join the championship again at the next race which takes place in Budapest, Hungary. This video is of our Bonilla Family, on Easter Sunday, in the early 1960's. We are on the property of my late uncle Ted Bonilla, and across the road, at Los Gatos Creel Park. This park is in Los Gatos Canyon, about 20 miles West of Coalinga, California, in Western Fresno County. Los Gatos Canyon is the site where 32 people were killed in a plane crash in 1948. Woodie Guthrie wrote a song "Deportee", about this crash, and the Mexican farm workers who were killed. This song has been done by many people including Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, The Bryds, Arlo Guthrie, and Bruce Springsteen. The park in this video was only a few miles from the site of the crash. The Bonilla's took over this park on Easter! Talk about memories! Check out the cars in the background. The song is "Las Mananitas", by Los Alacranes, of San Diego, and features Chunky Sanchez on vocals, and Miguel Lopez, on the harp.
Red Bull Air Race pilot Hannes Arch, had the speed to win on Sunday and was just ahead of Ivanoff at the first interval. But then a pelican punctured a gaping hole in his horizontal stabiliser shortly before the midway point. Arch said he was startled by the bird hit and was then unable to properly level his wings through the next Air Gate. It was a costly two-second penalty that dropped him behind both Ivanoff and Bonhomme. I was having a really good run and then I had a bird strike that distracted me, Arch said after inspecting the blood-covered hole on the right side of his planes tail. I was off line after that. The bird strike nearly tore off my horizontal stabiliser. It was bad luck but good luck that I was able to fly to the finish line. This wasn't the first bird strike in the Red Bull Air Race history. In London 2008, Paul Bonhomme was unable to avoid a flock of about 200 seagulls and hit at least three of the birds, which caused some visible damage to his Edge 540. Bonhommes technician Wade Hammond was busy repairing the damage to the right wing and tail - 4 mm deep compressions to the carbon fibre skin as well as chipped paint. Video of my dive on the P-38 lightening plane that crashed off the coast of San Diego in the 40's or 50's. Obviously not much is left of the plane, and looters have taken the machine guns. The main excitement of the dive is the depth at 130 feet for several minutes and doing a decompression dive back to the surface. I was pretty Narc'd throughout the dive, but a great experience.
