In some regions it's thought that if you eat Pork and Sauerkraut on New Years day you'll have luck in the coming year. We think the real reason people eat this is because it tastes so good. Ingredients 1 (4 pound) pork roast (we like shoulder or butt) 1 teaspoon caraway seeds salt and pepper to taste 2 cups sauerkraut with liquid Directions Cut pork loin, if necessary, to fit in the slow cooker. Season with caraway seeds, and salt and pepper to taste. Pour sauerkraut over the roast. Cook on High for 1 hour, then cook on Low for 5 to 6 hours. Internal temperature of the roast should be at least 160 degrees F (70 degrees C).

GYPSY FOOD PORK RIBLETS WITH SAUERKRAUT.
Chef Uwe Rudnick from the GermanDeli Test Kitchen www.GermanDeli.com shows how easy it is to create this classic German dish using a package mix (Maggi Schweinebraten Fix) to save time and insure a delicious meal with a rich sauce. Chef Uwe suggests serving Schweinebraten with bread dumplings or potato dumpling (or even mashed potatoes or Spaetzle noodles) plus sauerkraut or red cabbage. Recipe For each package of Schweinebraten Fix www.germandeli.com use 1 pound of pork. We recommend at least two pounds of pork. Which means you'll need two packages of Fix. You may use Pork Loin, Pork Tenderloin, Pork Shoulder, or Pork Butt. In a pan with a little oil brown the pork on all sides until golden brown. Remove the pork from the pan. To the drippings in the pan add 1 cup of water per package of Fix. Stir in the contents of the Fix and stir until smooth. Return the pork and cook in the oven from 45 to 75 minutes or until the pork is cooked through and tender.
Chef Uwe from the GermanDeli Test Kitchen www.GermanDeli.com shows how to make this classic German specialty. Schweinehaxe (also known as Schweinshaxe) is a pork shank that has been roasted until the fatty skin is brown and crisp and the meat inside is still juicy and succulent. Sold at GermanDeli.com all you have to do is Place the Schweinehaxe in a roasting pan, with half an inch or so of German beer (or water if you prefer). Salt and pepper is optional. Place the roast uncovered in a preheated 350°F oven for 4 hours. (Internal temperature must be at 160°F or above.) Remove from the oven and set the roasts on a platter. At this stage you may make a gravy from the liquid left in the pan using one of GermanDeli's many sauce or gravy mixes. Serve with sauerkraut or red cabbage, also available at www.GermanDeli.com and don't forget to add bread dumplings or potato dumplings, or boiled potatoes, or Spaetzle with all that rich gravy. Allow one Schweinehaxe for every two people. For big appetites serve one Schweinehaxe per person. A similar dish can be made using Eisbein (pork shank that has been cured in salt-brine for several days). Eisbein can be boiled with various seasoning in water for about 1-2 hours, but it is also delicious roasted in the same way shown here by Chef Uwe. RECIPE Use Schweinehaxe www.germandeli.com or - if you prefer - use Eisbein, which is salt-cured www.germandeli.com Allow one shank for every two people. For large appetites allow one shank per person ...

With creativity, passion, professionalism and warm hospitality, we strive to bring you our best. Yuanlin is constantly renewing its menu and creating popular flavours for all tastes and generations. Grab a bite in Yuanlin! Be our guest! 魯肉由來The story of Braised meat A long time ago, Taiwanese people were poor and could only afford sweet potatoes to make porridge for meals. In that time, meat was expensive and considered a delicacy. Some butchers trimmed the un-presentable pork skin and kept the lean meat for sale. Poor people took the pork skin back home and poached it, ready to serve. Most of men worked hard in an agricultural setting and needed high energy fatty foods to provide the energy they needed to undertake their physically demanding work. Lets face it, poached pork skin can become boring after a while. Due to the high food costs, women created novel cooking methods by using easy-to-get ingredients which were at hand. By using basic ingredients in the kitchen, adding soy sauce to make a stew. Because of the saltiness, workers were less prone to become dehydrated at work. Thats the short history of Braised meat. 堅持品質Quality control High quality black pork is cut into same size pieces with perfect shape to complement a few dozen spices. Schweizerhaus is a very popular restaurant and beer house in the entertainment section of the giant park "Prater" in Vienna. From spring to fall, hundreds if not thousands of people flock to this place daily to drink a beer or eat a meal. Their most famous dish is "Stelze", rear pork knuckle, usually eaten with a side dish of horse radish, mustard, sauerkraut and potatoes or dumplings. Their beer selection is surprisingly good. One can chose from various blond beers (Czech or Austrian), two dark beers (one kind of sweet), a wheat beer with extra yeast, a red-ish ale, and so on. The beers are from Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic. While the menu has everything ranging from poultry to fish, people mostly come here for the meat. Besides the pork knuckle, they serve a few interesting dishes from Hungarian recipes. My mouth is watering and the beer was excellent. In the immediate surroundings is the Prater, offering both rollercoaster rides as well as a large green space for hiking off those extra calories and child playgrounds. Just a few ingreidents and steps, can take the sour bite out of that sauerkraut for a nice blend with the apples, onions and pork chops. A Bit of Sauerkraut Trivia Sauerkraut is cabbage, processed by fermentation, before frozen foods. It is high in Vitamin C and also was a preventative of scurvy. Captian James Cook of the British Royal Navy ate and served sauerkraut to his crew on his voyages at sea for just this purpose, but later they switched to limes. Hence they earned the nick name "Limey" The German's picked up on the sauerkraut idea and contined the pratice of eating sauerkraut on their voyages and earned the nickname "Kraut". Sauerkraut can be used as an appetizer, side dish, in soups salads and stews and even desserts. Visit www.magiesplacecookbook.info for hundreds of family favorite recipes.
