Fedor Emelianenko (28-1-0, 1 NC) If there has been one criticism of MMA's premier heavyweight, it's that Emelianenko hasn't met the best of his contemporaries over the last three years. He responded with a 36-second thrashing of Tim Sylvia in July, and he will look to further prove his supremacy over the division on Jan. 24 when he takes on another former UFC heavyweight champion, Andrei Arlovski, in the headliner of the second Affliction bill. 2. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (31-4-1, 1 NC) Although the TUF 8 coach is still locked into a bout with former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir later this year, the future for Nogueira has gotten more interesting with the return of Randy Couture to the mix. Now, should Nogueira defend his interim version of the UFC heavyweight crown, 2009 will see "Minotauro" take on either Couture or Brock Lesnar in a high-stakes heavyweight affair. 3. Andrei Arlovski (14-5-0) 2008 offered Arlovski a great opportunity to rebuild himself, and he did so brilliantly. With his knockouts of Ben Rothwell and Roy Nelson, he has earned himself the biggest fight of his career -- a meeting with the sport's finest heavyweight, Fedor Emelianenko, in the main event of Affliction's sophomore effort on Jan. 24. 4. Josh Barnett (23-5-0) Barnett's management nixed hopes of him facing Fedor Emelianenko in January as the headliner for Affliction's second event. Unfortunately, Barnett's proposed participation on the Nov. 1 Sengoku card didn't come to fruition either. 5. Tim Sylvia (24-5-0) In the biggest fight of his career, Tim Sylvia was summarily smashed by Fedor Emelianenko in a humbling 36 seconds. Although his missteps have come against the top heavyweights in the world, Sylvia has lost three of his last four and he is a year removed from his last win in a suddenly active heavyweight division. 6. Ben Rothwell (29-6-0) Rothwell validated himself with a gutsy performance against Andrei Arlovski. He was looking to get back into the ring against Pedro Rizzo on Affliction's slated Oct. 11 follow-up card, but the postponement of the event left him in the lurch temporarily. The Miletich product may still meet Rizzo on the rescheduled January Affliction bill. 7. Alistair Overeem (28-11-0, 1 NC) Overeem was dominating the early going of his bout with Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic, but he didn't get the chance to seize victory due to his errant knees ending the bout prematurely. The Dutchman is still amidst one of his hot streaks, though, and may find another highlight reel to add to it Nov. 9 if a bout with Gary Goodridge comes to fruition in his native Netherlands. 8. Junior dos Santos (7-1-0) After causing a stir in the blogosphere with some nasty mittwork leading up to UFC 90, Junior dos Santos used Fabricio Werdum's face as a focus mitt in one of the year's bigger upsets. Whether or not the young protégé of Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira is legitimately one of the best heavyweights in the world remains to be seen, but for now, no one can take his nasty knockout of Werdum away from him. 9. Fabricio Werdum (11-4-1) Perhaps there's no sport with liver underdogs than MMA. Unfortunately, Werdum didn't heed history, and he had his UFC title hopes splattered courtesy of a brutal uppercut from fellow Brazilian Junior dos Santos. Instead of awaiting the winner of the UFC's forthcoming heavyweight tournament, Werdum has been knocked down the ladder of contention. 10. Gabriel Gonzaga (9-3-0) Gonzaga took an easy two-minute submission win over Justin McCully in July with little surprise. "Napao" figures to be a heavy favorite again in his slated November bout at UFC 91 against Midwesterner Josh Hendricks.
From Times Online November 7, 2008 British journalist covering Barack Obama caught on camera in drunk, plagiarism rant Adam Smith, of Birmingham Mail, is YouTube sensation after drunken 'F*ck you' resignation and admitting to copying BBC Sometimes, you wake up following a drunken night out and realise you have sent an inappropriate text to an ex-girlfriend or your boss. And sometimes you realise you have drunkenly admitted to plagiarism to camera, and spectacularly resigned from your job, shouting "F**k you' to your boss. This is what happened to Birmingham Mail reporter Adam Smith on Wednesday morning, as footage appeared on YouTube of him writing a report on the US election, slumped on a Miami pavement, and barely able to speak. Mr Smith, who also calls himself Steve Zacharanda in the hit video which was viewed almost 20,000 times in 48 hours, had taken a week's holiday to go to Miami to volunteer for the Barack Obama election campaign. After the victory, and very much the worse for wear and drink, Smith was caught flopped against a set of railings, a laptop on his lap, filing an article about Mr Obama's victory for the Mail. The maker of the video, a Dutch amateur journalist from Couscous Global, had stumbled across Smith by the roadside, and asked him what he was doing. "I jumped on a plane on Friday to volunteer for the Barack Obama campaign," Mr Smith explained in a strong, if rather slurred, Brummie accent. "As an ill-advised promise, I've decided to say to my paper back home that I'd write about the American election. "I wanted to be here because I'm here for history. The trouble is, the readers of the Birmingham Mail are going to get my version of history. And I'm just a little bit pissed..." With a laugh and a clap of the hands, he added: "And thank god for the BBC, because I'm cutting and pasting, oh, baby!" Not wanting to seem too unprofessional, he added: "I'm a proper news journalist." To pile further misery on his ignominy, Mr Smith ended the video by announcing: "My name is Adam Smith, also known as Steve Zacharanda, who has just resigned from the Birmingham Mail, the Birmingham Post and the Birmingham Sunday Mercury, to set up my own magazine?F**k you, I'm doing what I want." Mr Smith's employment status remains unclear today within a company which is undergoing significant restructuring. Steve Dyson, editor of the Birmingham Mail, said: "This is an internal matter, so we cannot discuss it." Asked about the company's attitude towards plagarism, he added: "Whilst we cannot discuss internal matters, plagarism will not be tolerated in any form by BTM Media Limited - although we do not believe that any has been taking place." In a further comment left the next morning by Mr Smith on the YouTube page, he appeared to have sobered up significantly. "Right, the thing is, right I've just woke up. And seen this video, which I don't really remember. I've been told to phone the Birmingham Mail because I am in trouble. "I was off duty, I am on official holiday working at the South Beach Miami Barack Obama campaign where I had just done a 18-hour shift trying to make the world a better place. Please check every BBC News outlet and see if I have cut and pasted anything. I have not, it was a joke and should be taken in the spirit it was said." In a follow-up video, filmed in the Obama campaign office, a more sober Mr Smith said he did not have a job anymore, and was "scared to speak to work" after phrases like "outrageous" and "bringing the company into disrepute" had been banded about. NOTES: 1) I state that Ingrams Authenticated History is the first published written account. It is not the oldest written mention of the legend. That distinction belongs to a publication called Goodspeed's History of Tennessee published in 1886 but that work does not give a detailed account. Authenticated History mentions a detailed magazine article in the Saturday Evening Post which he claims was published in 1849 and which caused Betsy Bell Powell to threaten to sue but no copy of that article has been found. Of course, Authenticated History contains what Ingram claims are the memoirs of Richard Williams Bell which he claims is dated to 1846 but, if true, it was not published until Ingram included it in Authenticated History. 2. Ingram had no experience in printing or the newspaper business. His good friend, Archie Thomas, had come back from the Confederate Army and was in a state of destitution with a large family to feed. Thomas did have some printing experience and a desire to start a newspaper. Ingram provided the financial backing for this venture with Thomas and the company they formed was called *M.V. Ingram & Co.* The Robertson Register was located in Springfield, TN. 3) I do not desire to imply that *A Mysterious Spirit* (1934) by Charles Bailey Bell is of no value to the legend. While it is basically just a rehash of Ingram's book, Bell's work served to reinvigorate popularity in the legend. Hence, just as I personally believe that the legend would have been largely forgotten without Ingram's work so too might it have been forgotten without Bells. Bell's book was published one year before the anticipated return of "Kate" which would have been 1935, or, 107 years after the alleged 1828 visitation where she allegedly said she would return in 107 years. 4) The publishing company which printed the first copies of Authenticated History was Donnelly Printing in Chicago. The building was located across from what is now the McCormick Place by the Lake Convention Center. Only 2000 copies were printed in its first printing and was available through mail order.

Then Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld agreed. At a Pentagon briefing on the same day Bush spoke, Rumsfeld was asked if Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein or those around him were personally involved in the September 11 attacks. Rumsfeld replied, "I've not seen any indication that would lead me to believe that I could say that." Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who was serving then as White House National Security Adviser, went even further. In an ABC "Nightline" interview, she insisted that, "We have never claimed that Saddam Hussein had either direction or control of 9/11." Of course, that was a stretch, especially considering some of Cheney's comments. But there is no question that, a full five years ago, the Bush administration had explicitly rejected any suggestion that it was appropriate to link the Iraq mission to September 11. Yet, on the seventh anniversary of attacks on New York and Washington that were never legitimately linked to Saddam Hussein or Iraq, Sarah Palin was telling soldiers headed for Iraq that they are part of "the broad conflict that began seven years ago today." Palin also told the troops: "America can never go back to that false sense of security that came before September 11, 2001." Fair enough. But isn't Palin creating a "false sense of security" by suggesting that the Iraq fight is an appropriate or meaningful response to 9/11? And isn't it unsettling that, as the United States prepares to see off a vice president who got in trouble for peddling fantasies regarding Saddam and terrorism, the Republican nominee to replace Dick Cheney sounds an awfully lot like, er, Dick Cheney?

BEFORE WORLD WAR II Between 1919 and 1926, some amazing progress in record breaking for aviation took place. Captain E. F. White made a nonstop flight from Chicago to New York (727 mi - 1170km) in 1919, and Lieutenant Oakley Kelly and Lieutenant John A. Macready made the first nonstop transcontinental flight from May 2 to May 3, 1923. This flight was made from Roosevelt Field, Long Island to Rockwell Field, San Diego. The first round-the-world flight was made from April 6 to September 28, 1924. Also in 1919, the first nonstop transatlantic flight was made by John William Alcock and Arthur Whitten Brown on June 14 to June 15. It took a little over 16 hours to complete and they won the "London Daily Mail" prize of $50,000. Mail delivery also took a major turn during these years. In 1925, Congress passed the Kelly Air Mail act which authorized the Post Office Department to contract with air-transport operators. This made it possible to transport U.S. mail by air; after this, 14 domestic airmail companies were created in 1926. VI. DURING WORLD WAR II During World War II, aircraft became a decisive factor in warfare. The largest operator of all international airlines in operation at this time was Pan American Airways. Pan American served 46 countries and colonies linking all continents and nearly all oceans. Small aircraft production increased significantly. Before World War II only about 193,000 people were employed in the aviation industry, and during 1941 the number increased to 450,000; also, around 3,375,000 passengers were transported by 18 U.S. airlines at this time, around 1 million more than in 1940. Airmail and express cargo would also increase by around 30 percent. But by the end of World War II, a new frontier of flight would take shape, jet and rocket propelled aircraft. VII. AFTER WORLD WAR II After World War II and by 1947 all the basic technology needed for aviation had been developed: jet propulsion, aerodynamics, radar, etc. Civilian aircraft orders drastically increased from 6,844 in 1941 to 40,000 by the end of 1945. One of the minor military contractors was the Boeing Company who later became the largest aircraft manufacturer in the world. With all the new technologies developed by this time, airliners were larger, faster, and featured pressurized cabins. New aerodynamic designs, metals, and power plants would result in high-speed turbojet airplanes. These planes would later be able to fly supersonically and make transoceanic flights regularly. One of the more famous record-breaking flights around this time was the Voyager, developed by Burt Rutan. The aircraft held 1,200 gallons (4500 liters) of fuel in its 17 fuel tanks. It weighed about 9,750 lb (4420 kg) at takeoff and only 1,858 lb (840kg) upon landing. The flight, maintaining an average speed of 115.8 mph (186.3 km/h), lasted 9 days, 3 minutes, 44 seconds and covered 25,012 miles (40254 km) and was completed in December 1986. June 28, 2008 Dear Ms Linney: Most people know me on television as the Toy, Gadget and Consumer products guy, as well as my work over the last forty years saving television, film and theatre history. I have a problem that I hope you may be able to help me with. On May 4th 2008 my site on You Tube.com called TVNETWORKS, which houses over 3,000 TV shows, films, and especially commercials I have restored over the last 30 years with the Museum of Television and Radio in New York was taken down because I showed four B-roll clips from your play Les Liaisons Dangereuses. Actors' Equity, acting on a complaint by one of the show's producers, notified You Tube that I was in copyright violation. Not only were the four clips in question taken off but my entire site was shut down. Unless Actors' Equity or your producers lift these infringements, my site on You Tube won't be allow up again. It's been over a month and a half now, and I have presented my case to Actor's Equity with no response. Even Adrian Bryan-Brown of your Press Office E-Mailed them asking then to remove the infringements, that he knew me and they didn't answer him either. If you go to Youtube.com/TheatreCorner, and I've sent you a DVD that will show you that I have profiled most of the leading directors and choreographers on Broadway for the news media. Now they want to take down all my interviews as well, it makes no sense. What makes my work unique is that all the films on line are one of a-kind celluloid films prints, part of a collection of over 20,000 celluloid prints decomposing, as well as thousands of video tapes needing to be saved. I even sent over 100 DVD's I personally made based on my work to show that Actors Equity and all the unions should be working with me, not against my work. I got the attached e-mail that not only didn't they see me as a violable news site to post theatre clips, they were reporting me to SAG. That means they want to take down my Theatre Corner web site as well. I wrote to SAG over a year ago asking to do stories on me to there members, as well as helping there SAG producers find material for there documentary on the history of there union. Yes, their SAG historian finally got back to me that they were busy with the strike. But I did due-diligence. I also made all this clear to every one at Actor's Equity in e-mails. I also outlined I represent many artists who's work is posted on the downed site, and its causing me a great deal of embarrassment. Performers and choreographers in there seventies and eighties using the computer are seeing themselves in there youth on variety shows like The Jimmy Durante, Bob Hope, The Colgate Comedy Hour and others because I have them up on line. I've been a stock footage company licensing and clearing rights for this type of material for over thirty years, my client list is the who's who of the film, cable and television industry. In using the B- Roll: I just don't run a clip. I also add graphics under the scene to the performer. I also have a logo on the right hand corner of the scene saying "Live Broadway.com, trying to promote the Theatre league. The description side, has a review and links to all the on line ticket agents. I've wanted to show the League, if I was a member I should be one of there official historians. Early History To a large extent, the development of the watch industry in America can be attributed to the advent and subsequent development of American railroads. Prior to the advent of trains as a means of transporting people and goods, there was no real need for precise timekeeping or uniform time. Even after the railroad system in the United States had reached significant proportions following the Civil War, communities continued to maintain their local times. By the end of 1883, the railroad industry had agreed, at least among themselves, to divide the nation into four time zones and had adopted Standard Time. The public soon followed suit, although it is interesting to note that the Congress did not officially sanction the concept until 1918. WEBB C. BALL In 1996, Cleveland, Ohio, celebrated the bicentennial of the founding of the city on the lake. During this celebration, many individuals were remembered and recognized as Cleveland's favorite sons, and their accomplishments were reviewed. One Clevelander honored, whose accomplishments reached international acclaim, not only for his civic contributions, but also for his place in horology, was Webster Clay Ball. Webb C. Ball was born in Fredericktown, Ohio on October 6, 1847. When Standard Time was adopted in 1883, he was the first jeweler to use time signals, bringing accurate time to Cleveland. On July 19, 1891, the General Superintendent of Lake Shore Lines appointed Webb C. Ball as Chief Inspector for the lines. His early inspection system was the beginning of the vast Ball network that would encompass 75% of the railroads throughout the country and cover at least 175,000 miles of railroad. Webb C. Ball also extended his system into Mexico and Canada. The Kipton Disaster On April 19, 1891 the Fast Mail train known as No. 4 was coming west on the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern Railroad in Kipton, Ohio. At Elyria, 25 miles from Cleveland, the Engineer and the Conductor of the Accomodation were given orders to let the fast mail train pass them at Kipton, a small station west of Oberlin, the University town. As the Conductor of Accomodation admitted afterward, from the time the train left Elyria until it collided with the Fast Mail at Kipton, he did not take his watch out of his pocket. He said that he supposed the Engineer would look out for Fast Mail No. 4. But the Engineer's watch stopped for four minutes and then began running again, a little matter of life and death of which he was unconscious. There were several stations between Elyria and Kipton, but the Engineer pounded slowly along in the belief that he had time to spare. Leaving Oberlin, the Engineer supposed he had seven minutes before reaching the meeting point. Of course he only had three minutes. Had the Conductor looked at his own watch he could have prevented the accident. The trains came together at Kipton, the Fast Mail at full speed and the Accomodation under brakes, because it was nearing the station. The Engineers of both trains were killed, and the dead bodies of nine clerks were taken from the kindling wood and broken iron of the postal cars. This accident prompted the Lake Shore officials to enlist Webb C. Ball to investigate Time and Watch conditions throughout the Lake Shore Line and develop an inspection system for their implementation. Webb C. Ball set about immediately and put in place fortnightly checks on the watches worn by all railroad workers. The checks were carried out by approved watchmakers. Ball set strict standards, forbidding variations more than 30 seconds among the watches. It is important to recognize and applaud Webb C. Ball, for his system was the first successful one to be accepted on a broad scale. It was his system that set the standard for railroads; it was his system that helped establish accuracy and uniformity in timekeeping. It was his system that resulted in railroad time and railroad watches being recognized as STANDARD, whenever accuracy in time was required. In general, it became accepted that when the average person asks a railroad man the time, he is assured a correct answer. Today, BALL Watch is one of the most respected and established watch brands in the United States. We continue to update the product range in the 21st century to keep pace with shifting consumer patterns. But, despite changes in appearance, the founding spirit of the brand - industrial function - is never compromised. It is upheld in Ball's original details, such as the watch dial that faithfully follows his design guidelines for the standard railway watch. Every detail, from the shape of the hands to the style of the numerals, was laid down by the founder in his quest for accuracy in timekeeping. It is a vision that the Ball family remains faithful to. Since 1977 I have written about and often spoken with many ISKCON leaders and the general result was that I was ignored, and/ or got many death threats. For the most part -- the leaders had no interest in fixing the problems of child molesting, drug addict messiahs, murders of dissenters and so on. Later I helped along a $400m lawsuit over the child molesting, while some victims were commiting suicide. And how did you guess, more death threats, and the leader's clones Steve Voith and Mukunda dasa (Mark Whitely) told me that I have to endorse their plan to "kill, the molesting victims, chop them up and feed their body parts to dogs," to cover up the crimes. Needless to say, the children were not only abused but severely harassed when their troubles surfaced. Anyway, we won that case and saved the kids, the suicides dropped dramatically. I also later on was the first person to distribute the audio tapes of Srila Prabhupada complaining that he was being poisoned and we began an expose of that issue. Walt Disney's Epcot center is one of the most prominent Illuminati ritual centers in the world. The public believes that the theme park and the films have an innocent and benign effect on the subconscious of their children. It may be the greatest ruse in history. As I always say, the best way to conceal something is to put it in plain view, and the gigantic pyramid laced biosphere of epcot's main attraction spaceship earth is certainly in plain view for all that have eyes to see. Another little slideshow/tribute I decided to make the other day. This time, I dedicate it to Ozuma from Bakuten Shoot BeyBlade 2002 and Touya from Yu Yu Hakusho; in my opinion, they're two of the most unappreciated characters I've ever known, but since they were still pretty important to their respective anime, I felt they deserved a little tribute of sorts. (also, they're my two favorite anime characters in history) The song is called Amarant's Theme, one of the coolest character themes ever, composed by the wonderful Nobuo Uematsu. Please, don't remove my video. I don't take any credit for these awesome characters nor am I making any profit whatsoever with this video!
