In the everyday world, much of what we do is dictated by how we interpret spatial relationships. This is called proxemics. What is surprising is how little spatial relationships are used in interaction design, ie, in terms of mediating people's interactions with surrounding digital devices such as digital surfaces, mobile phones, and computers. Our interest is in proxemic interaction, which imagines a world of devices that has fine-grained knowledge of nearby people and other devices -- how they move into range, their precise distance, and even their orientation -- and how such knowledge can be exploited to design interaction techniques. In particular, we show how we used proxemic information to regulate implicit and explicit interaction techniques. We also show how proxemic interactions can be triggered by continuous movement, or by movement in and out of discrete proxemic regions. We illustrate these concepts with the design of an interactive vertical display surface that recognizes the proximity of surrounding people, digital devices, and non-digital artefacts -- all in relation to the surface but also the surrounding environment. Our example application is an interactive media player that implicitly reacts to the approach and orientation of people and their personal devices, and that tailors explicit interaction methods to fit.

HWU has developed a user proxemic control competence for the robot, autonomous sensing and control of user proxemics based on face detection. This competence is also used in the greet task, the user proxemic sensing and distance calculation is achieved via face detection and face area bounding box in relation to the image captured. The video illustrates how the TeamBuddy (SARAH) tries to adjust the proxemic distance from the user and keeps a threshold distance (80cm-100cm) from the user, following from proxemic studies. Greet Task: In the first skeleton example video, we show the robot SARAH (Social Agent Robot to Aid Humans) performing the greet behaviour. This is a song by Kuroyume, taken from a live only single called Yuri no Hanataba -Acoustic Version-. The single was distributed at Shibuya Koukaidou on September 20, 1993. Interestingly, though it's listed on Kiyoharu's official site as Yuri no Hanataba -Acoustic Version-, this version was actually released almost 6 months before the Mayoeru Yuritachi album (which contains an entirely different recording of the song), apparently making this the original version. All the images in this video are scans of the limited and regular pressings of the Mayoeru Yuritachi album. All credit goes to moroschiele at livejournal for the scans. This project focused on the design and evaluation of a telepresence robot which allowed for social expression. Our hypothesis was that a telerobot that communicates more than simply audio or video but also expressive gestures, body pose and proxemics, would allow for a more engaging and enjoyable interactions.

SADNESS appeared on all 4 of their demotapes during their early indies period of 1992-1994 (when Tetsu was still vocalist); SADNESS, The 1th Anniversary, SADNESS/SPEED OF DESPERATE and sans logique (in instrumental form). This track is ripped from the SADNESS/SPEED OF DESPERATE demotape. Coming from a band who had a history of creating amazing tracks during their time together, this one is still a standout.
