There doesn't seem to be any news to account for the pullback from overnight highs, but it does correspond with a rebound in the dollar and a rally in treasuries. Several positive developments in the tech sector helped the tone in after-hours and led to strong gains overseas. Asian stocks were mostly higher overnight (Nikkei +1.2%, Hang Seng +1.3%, Shanghai -0.2%) and European stocks are showing broad gains at mid-day (FTSE +0.6% , DAX +0.8%, CAC +0.7%), but have also pulled back from highs. Japanese Prime Minister Kan kept his Finance Minister in place, implying that the current FX policy is intact. There was no evidence of any intervention although the Yen is slightly lower vs USD so far, helping boost Japanese exporters again. There are several pieces of positive corporate news helping the tone, primarily with regard to the tech sector. ORCL is trading +4.3% after reporting strong earnings after the close yesterday and giving positive guidance on the subsequent conference call.
