This step-by-step guide and tutorial will show you how to jailbreak your iPhone 3G or 3GS OS 3.1.2 using PwnageTool 3.1.4 for Mac OS X. PwnageTool is a Mac and Mac only tool. There is no equivalent for Windows and no one knows yet when such a tool for Windows will be released. If you updated your iPhone via iTunes to 3.1.2 or if you bought your iPhone with 3.1.2 pre-installed, you will be able to jailbreak it, however, you will not be able to unlock it. On the other hand. if you are still on 3.0 or if you have updated to 3.1 using PwnageTool, you preserved your baseband and you will be able to unlock using UltraSn0w.

OK i had a jailbroken 3g that had 3.0.1 on it. i used redsn0w.08 and i loved it. but one day i was adding the cydia app called poof(beware of it) and when it was rebooting it froze on the boot-logo (the apple) so i just reset it. and it kept doing the same thing so i restored it. but i have to jailbreak it again. and when i follow all the promts it shows the downloading jailbreak data logo on the screen. but after that it just boots up and tells me i need a sim card. and i jailbroke it without a sim card the first tim. any ideas

And a some type of torrent app. You will need to download pwnage tool from www.blog.iphone-dev.org This will only work for the iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 1st Gen and iPhone 2G (or 1st gen). iPod Touch 2nd Gen Jailbreak is not out yet and there is no quickpwn only pwnage tool.
