VINTAGE QUIXOTIC is a music tribute to OLD HOLLYWOOD: The Scandals, Myths, and Legends! The first song single, "A Song for Helen" is written for the stage and screen actress of the 20's and 30's, Helen Chandler. You may remember her from 1931's "Dracula" as Mina Seward opposite Bela Lugosi as the Transylvanian Count. Already a well-established star of the stage, Helen went on star in many films with other such co-stars as Ramon Navarro, Walter Huston, John Barrymore, and Katherine Hepburn. Sadly, Helen was prone to drink, and after a nervous breakdown, she retired from show business. It wasn't until 1949 that she made the headlines again when, mixing pills and alcohol, she fell asleep in bed, her lit cigarette catching fire resulting in third degree burns on her face and upper body. She lived quietly thereafter until 1965 when she passed away at the age of 59. All but forgotten, she was cremated and as legend has it, her ashes remain unclaimed. Another debut song, entitled "Hollywood Babylon", is based on the infamous book by Kenneth Anger. Name-checked in the lyrics are such tragic figures as Wally Reed, Jean Harlow, Bobby Driscoll and Fatty Arbuckle. Moody and atmospheric, much like it's inspiration, this tune pulls back the curtain and reveals the dark side of Hollywood. VINTAGE QUIXOTIC is for you, fans of Old Hollywood. Suggest your favorite old star / topic for future VQ songs! VINTAGE QUIXOTIC -- Songs about Old Hollywood, music for us!
