Soldiers in Ecuador have rescued President Rafael Correa from a police hospital where he was being held by force. The troops opened fire on dissident law enforcement officers. A state of emergency has been declared in the country following police protests against new government austerity measures, which would cut their benefits. Officers blocked roads and took control of the capital's airport. At least one person has been killed and dozens injured in the clashes. The President has accused the opposition and security forces of a coup attempt. The military declared its loyalty to Correa, but asked for the controversial law that sparked the protests to be reviewed. Correa speaking at 01:50 - "Comrades, If you want to kill the president, here he is! Kill me! Kill the health system, kill our values, kill the fight for freedom!"

Rev. Terry Jones, the pastor of a tiny, independent church in Florida who promised to burn copies of the Quran on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks has said he won't follow through if he is able to meet with the organisers and imam behind a mosque planned near Ground Zero in New York. It wasn't clear if he meant the burning would be halted indefinitely or just for Saturday. His words come as Muslims worldwide express anger at the planned protest.
Iran is continuing to stockpile enriched uranium despite toughened sanctions over its nuclear programme. A UN report, published by IAEA, states Tehran's already accumulated around 3 tons of nuclear fuel - enough for 3 atomic bombs if it's refined further. However, London-based journalist Afshin Rattansi claims the report has nothing to do with the Agency itself.

Recorded on August 20, 2010. (30 BAG music) She's trying to find her place In this universe- I tell her 'All the way to Heaven is Heaven' Doing the best she can You can't ask for more than that Christ has died, Christ has risen Christ will come again Say some prayers before you go to bed Pray without ceasing, woman Oh I know I better keep movin' on and just forget her Oh I know I better keep movin' on and just forget her Yet I know I don't know if I could ever live without her Do we have what it takes To make it work- was so pure She used to say that our love would go on And she'd take my hand As by a fire we sat I would like to try again I wish we'd listen And empty out our unsure heads Oh, what is missing? The fun

US taxpayer dollars are finding their way to the pockets of the Taliban, according to a new 75-page congressional report about the military's use of Afghan security firms. The firms are used to ensure the safe passage of supply convoys. If the US doesn't pay up, almost without fail the convoy gets attacked. (Part 2 of 2) A harrowing exploration of the rapid rise of American religious fanaticism after 9/11. This film explores an emerging ultra-rightwing mass movement seeking dominion over all aspects of contemporary American society. The film weaves archival video, contemporary Christian Nationalist movement propaganda (recruiting videos, apocalyptic/military video game imagery, etc. and original investigative material) to create an intense examination of the mindset and its will to power.
The UN says that up to 400 thousand people have fled from the ethnic violence in Kyrgyzstan. It also warns that many are facing shortages of food, water and medical supplies. Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan's interim government says it could close the US Manas air base in the country if the UK doesn't extradite Maksim Bakiev, the son of the ousted President.

In the past few weeks the US has witnessed an aggressive crack down on whistleblowers. For many the Obama administration's tough investigative stance on unauthorized press leaks goes against the president's own election promises to bring back openness and transparency. Moreover, some journalists now accuse the Obama government of actually attacking press freedom.

Indian people have for a long time been among the largest ethnic groups who've gone to the US in search of a better life. But with the economic difficulties there, it seems many of them are now thinking about heading back home.
This time Max Keiser and co-host Stacy Herbert look at the scandals of perfect trading days; PIIGS flying only to fall to earth five minutes later when markets realize the Euro-Tarp financiers are themselves bankrupt debt pigs; and Max Keiser explains high frequency terrorism in the Manchurian candidate markets. In the second half of the show, Max interviews post-neoclassical economic philosopher Damon Vrabel about the European bailout, the financial empire and the IMF, and how the right kind of republic can provide some solutions.
This week Max Keiser and co-host Stacy Herbert look at whether or not, as Western economies collapse under the weight of all their debt, China can save the world economy. In the second half of the show, Max interviews Paul Midler, author of "Poorly Made in China", about China's $300 billion rail projects; how restricting liquidity in a command and control economy actually accentuates misallocation of resources; and about having to hire lawyers to find out what is in his shampoo.

That's the view of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who's spoken exclusively to RT in an interview. He says that such pressure and new sanctions - if imposed - would harm the US rather than Iran.

If that sounds dubious thats because it is, in reality what is being proposed, and has been falling into place for some time, is the framework for an unelected global authority with powers above and beyond those of sovereign governments.

Iran's nuclear promises and its "culture of lies" by Dariush Mirzai According to Shiite tradition, dissimulation is permissible if not compulsory to defend one's faith. Ahmadinejad sends letter to Bush proposing "new solutions" whilst Iran's parliament threatens to pull Iran out of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Tehran (AsiaNews) - "Enough is enough! State TV IRIB is telling too many lies". This statement, reported surprisingly in some Iranian dailies, was made by Mohammad Baqher Ghalibaf, Tehran's mayor, last week. Former head of the police and one of the regime's strongmen, Mr Ghalibaf was able to say his peace but he did not say much more either because of censorship or self-censorship. It will thus be impossible to know to which lies the angry Ghalibaf was referring. There are so many . . . . Lies about the nuclear programme? For all intents and purposes, Iran has lost the trust of the international community. Yesterday 160 Iranian lawmakers signed a statement threatening to pull Iran out of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty if United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan allowed the United States to invoke Chapter VII of the UN Charter (on the use of military and non military measures) against Iran. Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has written to George W. Bush proposing "new solutions for getting out of international problems and the current fragile situation of the world". Only a few days, a Western expert on Iran Tim Guldimann said: "Despite repeated ...
rt.com rt.com WikiLeaks shows reporter killings in Iraq 06 April, 2010, 05:52 WikiLeaks has released a video taken from a US Apache helicopter showing the murder of two Reuters journalists in Iraq in 2007. Will there be any repercussions for the US? At the time of its founding in 2007, WikiLeaks focused on exposing repressive regimes in Asia, the former Soviet bloc and the Middle East. On April 5, however, in an event at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, WikiLeaks released a video that implicates the United States military in a murder. The video has raised new questions about rules of engagement in battle, liability of soldiers for their actions and the mindset of US soldiers fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. The video, allegedly taken from inside an Apache helicopter flying over Baghdad on July 12, 2007, shows the shooting deaths of two Reuters journalists, Saeed Chmagh and Namir Noor-Eldeen while audio reveals that the soldiers mistook the cameras the journalists were carrying for AK-47s. "The soldiers are treating war like a video game," said RTs Kristine Frazao, who attended the video release and watched the footage. The soldiers in the helicopter were absolved of responsibility in the attacks, which resulted in the deaths of around a dozen people, by a military court, which ruled the soldiers acted under the rules of engagement. Having read the rules, if you want to bend them or twist them, you can do that, said co-founder and editor of WikiLeaks Julian ...
Christians around the world are marking Holy Saturday, the day before Easter. It commemorates the day Jesus lay in the tomb - and this year it's celebrated on the same day by Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant believers. Thousands of pilgrims from across the globe have gathered in Jerusalem to see the centuries old 'Holy Fire' ritual. The vigil - seen as a message from Jesus that he hasn't forgotten his followers - sees the arrival of the 'sacred fire' which is then used to light candles shared among the crowds. Viewed by Christians as a 'miracle' - the event happens yearly and takes place in the Church of the Resurrection in Jerusalem on Holy Saturday. The centuries old ritual symbolises new beginnings, cleansing and the start of spring. Meanwhile, final preparations before Easter are going ahead in Russian churches with traditional services being held for thousands of believers. Eggs, and special cakes also known as 'Kulich' are being blessed by priests as part of the annual ceremony. And today is also the last day of Lent, a period in which the faithful fast and abstain in order to gain spiritual strength. RT's Svetlana Kurakina had a go at creating her own easter symbol.

rt.com Georgia invaded, Saakashvili dead? False TV report causes panic with the public 13 March, 2010, 21:19 If one of your main news channels said your country has been invaded and your president murdered you would no doubt be extremely scared. In Georgia, that is what has just happened. On Saturday night Georgian TV channel Imedi aired a false report that caused a shockwave across the country. According to the news, Russia invaded Georgia after a terror attack on the president of South Ossetian republic, Eduard Kokoity. The report suggested that Georgian president Mikhail Saakashvili and his government had been evacuated. In several minutes, however, the source reported the death of Saakashvili and creation of the Peoples government headed by one of the opposition leaders, Nino Burdzhanadze. The program, that lasted for half an hour, also reported the terrible bombardment of the countrys air and seaports and only at the end, Imedi presenters pointed out that this was a special report about possible development of the events. At the beginning of the broadcast there was also warnings that the program showed a sequence of possible events that could only occur "if Georgian society is not brought together against Russia's plans." Despite the warnings though, the report has caused panic across the country. People began calling each other and the TV studio to find out what was really happening, said RIA Novosti news agency. Interfax news agency reported the local media outlets ...
