Gran Turismo is made for Sony by their own internal developers Polyphony Digital. The series becomes one of the first mainstream racing sims on the home consoles. GT4 is released in Japan in 2004 and in NA for early 2005. It's one of the best racing games on the PS2 and IMHO one of the best racing games EVER! Graphically it pushes the PS2 to its near limits and even supports 16:9 and HD resolutions with the proper component cables.
Classic Game Room HD reviews MOTO GP 09/10 from Capcom for Xbox 360, also available for Playstation 3 PS3. This CGR review of the motorcycle racing game, MotoGP 09/10, has gameplay from Moto GP 09 10 showing video game play in HD action. Crash bikes in races, wear a shark helmet and mock the biker hoes, the best features in the game. Moto GP 09/10 is fairly average and definitely below the bar compared to some of the higher end racing games out there like Forza, Gran Turismo, Need for Speed Shift and Dirt. The difference is you're racing bikes and have several to choose from like Hondas and Ducati. Numerous tracks from around the world fill Moto GP 09/10 with some fun and challenging races on circuits like Mugello and Motegi. Gameplay is fast and smooth with some nice weather effects. The music is awful and sounds are a bit flat compared to other driving games that I've played. Moto GP 09/10 is more technical than many car games because you can use two different brakes and have to shift your weight back and forth, racing on familiar courses becomes interesting because of the different tactics required. All in all Moto GP 09/10 feels like it could have been better but is far from a complete disaster like that Ducati game on the Dreamcast. MotoGP 09/10 review with gameplay from CGR! What I find kind of interesting this time is that the Grand Prix favorite, the computer player who always seems to be right on your tail, is Beat for this set of races. Normally, there's a Sonic character, Amigo, or Aiai, as they're the ones most likely to be in the Grand Prix. There's usually some unlockable character in there too, but they're just filler--none times out of ten, they're trailing. So it was unusual to see Beat performing so well here--considering that his handling sucks and he's not well-suited for twisty turny tracks like these. (Ironically, his worst position was 6th in his own home course of Highway Zero.) I like how BD Joe always has his left arm up against the door of his taxi, as if he's quite relaxed about the whole thing. Knowing him, he probably is. Race #3 Curien Mansion Deadly Route Song: Aura of Dread After a bit of research, I found out that SEGA Superstars Tennis, and by consequence this game too, avoids any mentioning of the phrase "House of the Dead" because the series is banned in Germany. House of the Dead, that is, not SEGA Stars. This includes any mention of House of the Dead, as that would get the rest of the game banned along with it. So to get around this (rather stringent) law, the game calls the series "Curien Mansion" and refers to the games as "HOTD" on the profiles. Oddly, the gory-looking guy and the blood-splattered logo are perfectly okay. As for the course, eadly Route is most definitely my favorite among the Curien Mansion ...

Classic Game Room HD reviews SMASH CARS for Playstation 3 PS3. This download game from Playstation Network for the PS3 is like the modern day equivalent of RC Pro Am on the NES. Race remote controller cars around tracks full of obstacles, jumps and hazards. The gameplay is a cross between a Super Mario Kart "Kart" style racer and a demolition, combat racer like Fatal Inertia or Burnout Paradise. There are 3 different chassis to choose from and numerous RC car style bodies. Pull off tricks in the air to earn stars and nitrous boost. Fans of fun, outrageous racing games should check this one out, no simulation racing here. Classic Game Room HD reviews KRAZY KART RACING for iPod Touch and iPhone. Krazy Kart Racing is Konamis answer to Nintendos Mario Kart series with one big difference, its on the iPod. We all love Mario Kart, who doesnt? But it is exclusive to Nintendo hardware and probably always will be. This is not a problem if youve already invested in Nintendo gear, but if youve got an iPod Touch or iPhone and are looking for some goofy Kart racing then this is your game. Choose from one of several characters, including Frogger, drive a kart around colorful, tight tracks and out-race your opponents or knock them out of the way. There are spinning cubes that hover just over the driving surface that dispense speed or weapon power-ups, red ones for weapons and blue for speed. Tap your character to jump over obstacles, run over blinking tiles for a short burst of speed and be careful not to fall into pits or drown in water. (As we all know, water kills Frogger even though hes an amphibian that should, in theory, thrive in water.) Krazy Kart Racing feels like it was reverse engineered from Mario Kart DS but plays with the accelerometer controls and has a completely different array of tracks and music. While it gets no points for originality the gameplay is solid and the production value is reasonably high. I found the accelerometer steering controls to be touchy and easy to oversteer, but with some practice I found myself staying on the tracks and winning races. You can also opt for touch ...
Classic Game Room reviews DUCATI WORLD RACING CHALLENGE for the Sega Dreamcast from 2001. Heres one of the most forgettable Sega Dreamcast driving games out there, Ducati World. While the game is certainly dated by todays standards it also pales in comparison to some of the really good racing games on Dreamcast like Ferrari F355 Challenge, Sega GT and Test Drive LeMans. Its not all bad though, Ducati World does have a fine selection of new and classic Ducati motorcycles to choose from, a small variety of courses and some halfway playable gameplay. The fact is the driving in this game feels nothing at all like driving. At no point does it feel like the bike has contact with the road, leaning from one side to the other is awkward and not terribly well done and the music is terrible beyond imagination. The Moto GP series blows this to pieces. Players do get a behind the bike view, first person cockpit view and crashes where your rider slides down the road and explodes into flames. Well, not the flame part. That would be awesome! This CGR review of Ducati World Racing Challenge has gameplay from Ducati World on Sega Dreamcast showing this bike racing game in action. Only for really hardcore Ducati motorcycle fans wanting a motorcycle racing game with their brand on it.

Classic Game Room HD reviews DRAGSTER from 1980 for the Atari 2600. This auto racing game puts you in the cockpit of a Drag Racing car! Sort of... you push the button for gas, hold left to use to the clutch and push right to shift. Your objective is to earn the fastest time without blowing your engine up. As far as racing games on Atari 2600 go, Dragster is pretty dull. Enduro from Activision is a better bet for fans of racing games on the old school Atari VCS video computer system. TrackMania is an arcade racing games for Windows, which include stunting with cars, track-building, elements from puzzle games, as well as elements testing the players' dexterity. It was developed by the French team Nadeo for the PC. Instead of following the usual trend of choosing a set car and track for playing in the game, the TrackMania games allow the player to create their own tracks using a 'Block' process in the spirit of the 1985 game Racing Destruction Set and the 1990 Broderbund release, Stunts. In contrast with most other racing games, the TrackMania series lets the player race a track as many times as they want, until time runs out. They can choose to respawn at any time possible, due to landing upside down, going off the track or because the start did not go optimally. Although in multiplayer games multiple cars race on the same track, they cannot actually collide or otherwise influence each other.
