Seabiscuit (May 23, 1933—May 17, 1947) was a champion thoroughbred racehorse in the United States. From an inauspicious start, Seabiscuit became an unlikely champion and a symbol of hope to many Americans during the Great Depression. Seabiscuit became the subject of a 1949 film, The Story of Seabiscuit, a 2001 book, Seabiscuit: An American Legend, and a 2003 film, Seabiscuit, which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. His owner was automobile entrepreneur Charles S. Howard, who bought Seabiscuit for $7500. Horse trainer Tom Smith paired the horse with Canadian jockey Red Pollard (1909-1981), who had experience racing in the west and in Mexico, but was down on his luck. Seabiscuit was given a much larger stall and moved in with a gentle-natured horse called Pumpkin who would become Seabiscuit's lifelong pal. A stray dog called Pocatell and a cute monkey named Jo-Jo joined the two horses as well. Unfortunately, on February 19, 1938, Pollard suffered a terrible fall while racing on Fair Knightess, another of Howard's horses. With Pollard's chest crushed by the weight of the fallen horse, and his ribs and arm broken, Howard tried three jockeys, before settling on George Woolf, a great rider and old friend of Pollard, to ride Seabiscuit. On November 1, 1938, Seabiscuit met War Admiral and jockey Charles Kurtsinger in what was dubbed the "Match of the Century." Hed look over, make eye contact with the horse next to him, and take off for the finish line, often winning in record time. These details can only describe one horse Seabiscuit. There was something about him that gave hope to so many Americans in the late 30s and bonded him to his fans. It all began with a real-life story. Then there was the best-selling book by Laura Hillenbrand. That was followed by an inspiring movie about a horse born to lose who ends up winning at a time when the average American needed a hero who beat the odds. If you were a gambler, Im not sure youd initially bet on the four main characters in this story. Although Seabiscuit had descended from Man o War, he was knobby-kneed and had quite a temper. After all, hed been subjected early on to beatings and neglect. He was also undersized, not the dominant figure youd expect in a world-class champion. As mentioned, the Seabiscuit story took place during the Depression. It involved a wounded horse and wounded men whod been knocked down by life and who got back up on their feet. In the sport of kings, Seabiscuit was the commoner who swept himself, and many Americans, to glory. In the early 30s, Charles Howard, as he turned his back on the automobile industry as a result of his sons death in a car crash ...

Here is a "Swede" I put together based on the movie Seabiscuit. This was my first attempt at sweding. It was shot and edited over the course of three days. Remember that working with children and animals requires a bit more patience and time. Swedebiscuit stars my son, Jimmy, as Red Pollard. Jimmy is three years old and did a fine job playing someone much older. He also provided the opening title card drawing. NOTICE: It has come to my attention that someone has considered part of this project to be viewed possibly as offensive. It was never my intention to create what has now become a controversial piece. Everytime I see these it turns my stomach, these are gut wrenching scenes. I've also added scenes.
