Andy Wilson, senior researcher and Hrvoje Benko, researcher, both from Microsoft Research explain their LightSpace research project. LightSpace combines elements of surface computing and augmented reality research to create a highly interactive space where any surface, and even the space between surfaces, is fully interactive. Our concept transforms the ideas of surface computing into the new realm of spatial computing. Instrumented with multiple depth cameras and projectors, LightSpace is a small room installation designed to explore a variety of interactions and computational strategies related to interactive displays and the space that they inhabit. LightSpace cameras and projectors are calibrated to 3D real world coordinates, allowing for projection of graphics correctly onto any surface visible by both camera and projector. Selective projection of the depth camera data enables emulation of interactive displays on un-instrumented surfaces (such as a standard table or office desk), as well as facilitates mid-air interactions between and around these displays. For example, after performing multi-touch interactions on a virtual object on the tabletop, the user may transfer the object to another display by simultaneously touching the object and the destination display. Or the user may "pick up" the object by sweeping it into their hand, see it sitting in their hand as they walk over to an interactive wall display, and "drop" the object onto the wall by touching it with ...

For over 20 years, scientists at Stanford Research Institute (SRI) carried out SECRET investigations into ESP and psychic phenomena and our ability to experience and describe distant events blocked from ordinary perception. This film features rare, and until now, Top Secret footage from the vault of the CIA, of Laboratory Experiments conducted at SRI featuring famed psychic Uri Geller. This intuitive capacity was named (RV) Remote Viewing, and the research was supported by the CIA, NASA and many other government agencies for gathering intelligence about world-wide targets in China, USSR, Iran, etc. during the Cold War. This was a Real X-file! Physicist Dr. Russell Targ is a pioneer in the development of the laser and along with scientist Dr. Hal Puthoff and psychic Ingo Swan, was co-founder of this previously classified research program. Though (RV) Remote Viewing is considered by many as highly controversial, the research conducted at SRI and this Declassified - CIA briefing film are authentic and features, among others, the six man to walk on the Moon, Apollo 14 Lunar Module Pilot - Astronaut Dr. Edgar Mitchel, Russell Targ and Hal Puttoff, and was delivered to UFOTV by Russell Targ, for release to the public. Check out the complete DVD - "ESP & Psychic Spies" Loaded with Bonus Features and featuring the research of Russell Targ. Bonus Features include the film "Uri Geller at SRI - DVD, 90 mins. Cat# U675. For more than a year now, the mainstream media has demonized the Tea Party as a group of white racists. On September 12, 2010, we set out to see for ourselves if the Tea Party is as "monochromatic" as most of the media steadfastly claims to this day.
The eye of Hurricane Earl in the Atlantic Ocean is captured by videographer Jane Peterson aboard NASA's DC-8 research aircraft on Monday, Aug. 30, 2010. The DC-8 passed through the eye of the storm six times just as Earl was intensifying from a Category 2 to a Category 4 hurricane. The flights are part of the Genesis and Rapid Intensification Processes (GRIP) experiment, a NASA Earth science field experiment being conducted to better understand how tropical storms form and develop into major hurricanes.

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has taken part in a wildlife experiment, helping biologists get skin samples from an endangered gray whale. Putin, who is currently visiting the Far Eastern region of Kamchatka, joined the team of marine biologists at the Kronotsky Nature Preserve, where the nearly-extinct mammals have recently been observed. Despite the poor weather conditions and the rough water, a motor boat carrying the wetsuit-clad team went to sea in search of gray whales. After a group of whales was detected, the Prime Minister shot a sample-taking dart at one of the animals with a crossbow. "We tried to work with three or four whales, but we only got one," Putin told the press after setting foot on the shore. "I had a rush: three times I missed, but the fourth time I hit it."

IBM scientists have created the smallest 3D map of the earth - so small that 1000 maps could fit on a grain of salt*. The scientists accomplished this through a new, breakthrough technique that uses a tiny, silicon tip with a sharp apex -- one million times smaller than an ant -- to create patterns and structures as small as 15 nanometers at greatly reduced cost and complexity. This patterning technique opens new prospects for developing nanosized objects in fields such as electronics, future chip technology, medicine, life sciences, and opto-electronics.
Teton Gravity Research is proud to announce a partnership with Jeremy Jones on a two-year snowboard project titled Deeper. The legendary eight-time Big Mountain Rider of the Year winner has been working with TGR since its inception in 1996. Jones and the TGR Team have spent the last 15 years pioneering first descents in remote mountain ranges around the world and documenting them on film. "We started the company in the mountains and we have always stayed true to the big mountain side of the sport when the rest of the world was moving in a different direction. This collaborative film effort with Jeremy will be the first of its kind; a true pure riding film made deep in the mountains," says TGR co- founder Todd Jones. Jeremy and many other top freeriders including Jonaven Moore, Travis Rice and Xavier De La Rue will travel to remote ranges around the world as they attempt to push Big Mountain Riding to the next level.

Sunstein Attacks Second Amendment Kurt Nimmo www.infowars.com January 15, 2010 The constitutions of most of our States assert that all power is inherent in the people; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed. Thomas Jefferson to John Cartwright, 1824. In a lecture at the University School of Law on October 27, 2007, Obamas administrator of the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs emphatically stated that you do not have a right to own firearms. It is striking and noteworthy, said Cass Sunstein, that well over two centuries since the founding, the Supreme Court has never suggested that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to have guns. It is said Sunstein is a constitutional scholar. And yet he fails to mention that opinions dealing with the Second Amendment come from almost every period in the Courts history and almost all of them are consistent with the proposition that the Second Amendment is an individual right. Google Tech Talk May 6, 2009 ABSTRACT Research and Education in the Clouds: Experience at the University. Presented by Jimmy Lin. Hadoop, the open-source implementation of MapReduce, provides unprecedented opportunities for both research and education. On the research side, academics are now able to explore problems at scale with modest resource investments, either with inexpensive commodity clusters or through utility computing services. On the education side, Hadoop provides a nice vehicle to teach students about large-scale distributed processing. In this talk, I will present "cloud computing" activities at the University of Maryland, in collaboration with Google/IBM under the Academic Cloud Computing Initiative and in partnership with Amazon Web Services. Efforts include semester-long Hadoop courses, as well as research projects in text processing and bio-informatics. I will specifically focus on my attempts to integrate research with education, to the benefit of both. Jimmy Lin is an Associate Professor in the iSchool at the University of Maryland, with affiliations in the Department of Computer Science and the Institute for Advanced Computer Studies, as well as the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), National Library of Medicine (NLM), the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He received a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT in 2004. Dr. Lin's research primarily lies at the intersection of information retrieval and natural ...
