This is the third part of my submission to the Life In A Day project which is a fantastic concept by Ridley Scott and Kevin Macdonald. Essentially, I put just about all of the footage that I shot on July 24, 2010 into this submission. I have included what was in my pocket too: cell phone, pen, pill holder, eyeglass cleaner and lip balm. I awoke around 3 am and began to shoot video. I even shot video of myself looking into the mirror and wondering what I was going to do. After waking up my cats, I ended up driving down to Brigantine NJ and filming the sunrise. I eventually inserted a voice track of me reciting a poem I wrote. Then I drove back to Philadelphia and filmed: the city skyline, the ever-changing train schedule at 30th Street Station, the water fountain at JFK Plaza and Robert Indiana's Love sculpture, views of the Art Museum and the Parkway, the Schuylkill River and boats, the Allow Me sculpture by J. Seward Johnson, Lawn Croft Cemetery in Linwood PA, and scenes at the Powder Mill in Wilmington DE. All in all, a very busy, but a very fun day! It was an absolute joy to be able to participate in this wonderful project! And if you had a chance to watch the film on 1/27/11, you may have seen my sunrise shot at Brigantine Beach, NJ. I highly recommend that you get a copy of this film when it is available! It is an absolutely incredible film! It's like a roller-coaster ride to the four corners of the earth!
This is my submission to "Life In A Day", a great concept by Ridley Scott and Kevin Macdonald. I call my video "A New Day." Even though this is "Part of 1 of 2", the second part will be mostly outtakes from this Part 1. The things I love the most are the beauty of nature, especially the sunrise at the beach. I also love my cats too! And the sandpipers at the beach make me laugh when they run around and dodge the incoming waves. I do show a brief shot of what is usually in my pocket: cell phone, pen, eyeglass cleaning spray, lip balm, and pill holder. The thing that I fear the most is a common one: death. I hope I illustrated that with my footage of the cemetery, especially the footage of the newly made blank headstone. The rest of the footage was of things that I have always liked such as the city skyline, architecture, sculptures, fountains, country scenes and the train station. I even composed some poetry for the segment of the film when I shot footage of the sunrise at Brigantine Beach NJ. It was a great idea and I am glad I took part in it! If you were able to watch the premiere of this film on 1/27/11, you may have seen a glimpse of my sunrise shot, 3:48, at Brigantine Beach, NJ, which was used in the beginning of the film! I hate to think that a lot of the problems that happen today could be prevented if we all watched our mouths and our actions. I mention this, because even today while studying in the library I over heard two Asian students notifying a group of Caucasian students that they had reserved the study room that the Caucasian students were in. While the Caucasian students exited the room I heard one of them impersonating the Asian students. From the couch that I was sitting on I turned to look at the Asian students hoping that they had not heard those derogatory remarks, but unfortunately the looks on their faces as they watched the Caucasian students walk away was more than enough for any one to see that they were hurt. Jirapat Tatsanasomboon applies a pop-art style to his paintings which feature well known images and icons of western contemporary art such as Keith Haring's figures and LOVE paintings by Robert Indiana. Into these international iconic paintings, Jirapat inserts Thai traditional characters, often from the Ramakien (Ramayana) epic or Lanna Ladies or men. He plays around with images and paintings and transforms these well known icons by changing their appearances and putting them in a new and alien Thai setting. The interaction between the Thai and western characters may be viewed as symbolizing interactions at various levels, such as East-West and Modern-Traditional.

Here's Part One of the Q&A session we recorded with Robert Watts, who has produced some of the Star Wars films, the Indiana Jones films, as well as several other very high profile and legendary movies in his illustrious career. he was also production manager on 2001: A Space Odyssey and location manager for You Only Live Twice. This was shot at last October's Star Wars Fan Days 2 in Plano, TX. Watts doesnt do very many appearances, so this is a rare opportunity to hear him speak about his experiences as a producer on some of the most legendary films in cinema history. Unfortunately, some of the footage had some crazy crackling, as my camera at the time was crapping out. I salvaged what I could, and it is definitely worth a watch.

Jasper Johns, Claes Oldenburg, Robert Indiana, Andy Warhol, and Martial Raysse, gathered in a room at Hirshhorn. Jasper Johns - 0 through 9: it's a whole universe there, of digits, and of people, and of weird animals, and some birds, and funny, strange events. Digits defining people, people in metamorphosis to become animals and birds, a miraculous geometry of shapes, and colors, and white drops of snow, drops of snow in sudden metamorphosis to red. Drops of red snow. Near Jasper Johns, a Claes Oldenberg: this Ghost Version of a Soft Bathtub. It is interesting, I noted the head (so, the Ghost) only after taking the photo. Actually I noted the head only in the photo, I wasn't able to observe it just watching the work. It's an interesting point, and it goes well with the argument of PhotoRealists, that one should start with a photo to get all interesting details of reality. Robert Indiana then, the wizard discovering icons in digits and words. Here building ironic icons: Beware-Danger American Dream. This artwork of Warhol that I had seen so many times in reproductions, now I was in front of it. Everything Warhol creates, he pours a drop of godness. On the opposite wall, another Oldenburg, this 7-UP that I knew from some art books. And finally this green Venus Made in Japan, laying on soft cushions. I felt I needed to record the whole in a video, to keep the memory forever: Warhol, Johns, Oldenburg, Indiana, Raysse.
