Robert Louis Stevenson, one of my favorite writers, captured my heart in his written account of his cross country travels from the east coast to the west. His heart mission? To join, and hopefully wed, his love, Fanny. A much better account than any I could relate will be found online, should anyone want to follow up, or be inspired to dig a little, by my song. He passed thru this very town in which I live, and his telling of this hard overland journey was something which just touched me. The account can be read in "Across the Plains," which can be found (and read) on this lovely website: readprint dot com The pics , I borrowed from the net, in order to tell the story, and used here to "illustrate" the song, not for profit, not for gain, no copyright infringement intended. I actually wrote the line, "I will wait, by the door" before I found the painting seen, of a pacing Mr Stevenson, and his sweetheart, on a couch , where else? but by the door...:-) Unknown to me where in San Francisco they wed, but a guess is City Hall. They honeymooned in the Napa Valley, Calistoga and St Helena. The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson---book talk The Psychopath has a Jekyll and Hyde nature - is vile, vicious and vindictive in private, but innocent and charming in front of witnesses; no-one can (or wants to) believe this individual has a vindictive nature - only the current target of the psychopath's aggression sees both sides; whilst the Jekyll side is described as "charming" and convincing enough to deceive, the Hyde side is frequently described as "evil"; Hyde is the real person, Jekyll is an act. No one is perfect and all people have behaved in selfish and cruel ways I am sure, but a psychopathic person is different different, it is like they are not human. They are like Hyde and have no true feeling or love for anyone. Some pyschopaths are quite obvious like Hyde (Charles Manson type) and some have more guile and charm but are just as evil.

It is also an evolving museum with a tour that takes about 40 minutes and is quite interesting. There is a waterfall and swimming hole about 5 minutes walk away and there's also the option of hiking to the top of the neighbouring mountain where Robert Louis Stevenson and his wife Fanny are buried. The view from here takes in all of Apia and helps you understand why this great poet, novelist and travel writer chose it as his resting place for eternity.

Fourteen years before his death, when he was very ill in California, Stevenson had composed "Requiem" his own epitaph: Robert Louis Stevenson was born in Edinburghs New Town in 1850. He died 44 years later on a small Samoan island in the Pacific. During his short life he travelled the world, defied convention, and made himself one of the most famous writers of the 19th century. Robert Louis Stevenson was one of the most-read adventure novelists of the late 1800s. Among his most popular books were Kidnapped (1886), The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1886), and Treasure Island (1883). The latter book features Stevenson's famous crafty pirate Long John Silver. Stevenson also published a much-loved book of poems, A Child's Garden of Verse (1885). Having suffered from tuberculosis for much of his life, Stevenson spent many years travelling in search of a climate that would suit his illness. During my time spent in Florida, I donated much of my experience to the advancement of art programs at the primary school level. Through the use of art as an anchor for students in education, studies conducted proved a higher percentage of retention in students who had previously scored low on standardized testing.
We all get these feelings, and the best cure is to sit in a comfy chair with a cup of tea and watch some TV.
