Well, they do say that silence is golden: While Illinois Sen. Roland Burris' testimony before impeachment panel may not be perjury, the whole truth wasn't offered.
Roland Burris speaks out about the new facts that surround his appointment. It appears that he commited perjury in the investigaion about the corruption charges againtst Rod Blagojevich that appointed Burris to the senate seat. Reed's quick acceptance of Burris is highly suspect since Reed just days before promised not to accept any appoitment made by Blagojevich. What tunred him around may have been intense discussions among the democrates about the 60 vote majority that was needed to get all their bills approved by the Senate. Burris could make or break that majority. Reed suddenly decide to accept the corrupt appointment that he rejected earlier. Today February 15, 2009, the news is out only hours after the 1 trillion dollar spending package was voted on it appears that Burris committed perjury. That is a crime that would exclude him for being accepted in the senate and the senate should therefore not have Burris and his 60th vote. Questions remain, did Reed know about this perjury and how much did he know about the corrupt appointment. Did Rahm Emanuel make Reed accepts Burris. In Roland Burris's own words. I'm sure there are many Democrats who wish democratic congressmen had the balls of Blagojevich to takeon the Republican's Justice Department in this manner. This is very bold, much different than the cowering Democrats who shaked and shivered at the feet of Bush/Cheney and Republicans for years. This even has US Special Prosecutor (secret GOP hatchet guy) Mr. Fitzgerald readjusting his position and now offering the Illinois legislators some of his wiretapped recordings, fearing that the Legislature will back away from impeaching Blagojevich. Barack Obama would be wise to not support Senate Democrats in attempting to block the appointment of Roland Burris. There are NO LEGAL GROUNDS to block. African Americans will see Barack Obama as, once again, giving in to the interests of the status quo than doing the right thing.

Ignoring threats from the U.S. Senate Democratic leadership to block his pick, Gov. Blagojevich this afternoon said he's appointing Roland Burris to President-elect Barack Obama's vacant U.S. Senate seat. "The people of Illinois are entitled to have two U.S. Senators," said Blagojevich, whose arrest on corruption charges earlier this month places Burris' appointment under a cloud. "If I don't make this appointment then the people of Illinois will be deprived." During a downtown news conference, Blagojevich called Burris, 71, an individual with "unquestioned integrity" and a "senior statesman of Illinois." Later, Blagojevich said, "Please don't let the allegations against me taint this good and honest man." In his remarks, Burris didn't rule out trying to seek re-election in 2010 should he somehow make his way into the Senate seat. He also gave no idea what his strategy might be to avoid his appointment being blocked by Senate leadership.

Word is that the Illinois Democratic governor under indictment went through on his appointment of a U.S. Senate replacement for outgoing Barack Obama, president-elect.
