The Middle East Institute is proud to host Dr. Mark Katz, professor at George Mason University, for a discussion of current relations between Iran and Russia. The Obama Administration has attempted to improve US relations both with both countries. However, neither Tehran nor Moscow has responded favorably toward the new administration's initiatives. While Tehran and Moscow continue to distrust Washington, they also distrust each other. In his talk, Katz will discuss Moscows views on the Iranian nuclear issue and Security Council sanctions, current Iranian political unrest, Irans prospects as a major emerging gas exporter and transit route from the Caspian Basin, and the prospects for an Iranian-American rapprochement. He will also discuss Tehrans views of Russian policy on these issues. Despite shared antipathy toward the United States, he notes that the issues dividing Moscow and Tehran are sufficiently serious that the prospects for increased collaboration between them appear quite limited.
A leading Russian think-tank claims the British meteorological office has been misrepresenting Russian weather data to manupulate the results and suggest rising temperature trends. The Moscow Institute of Economic Analysis alleges the Hadley Center for Climate Change used only a quarter of the data provided by Russia. Analysts for the agency imply that climate experts selectively used incomplete reporting that emphasized a warming effect.

December 2009 SPIRAL UFO Experts in Norway have been left baffled by a mysterious spiral UFO of light that has drawn excitement from UFO enthusiasts.SPIRAL UFO The giant pattern appeared in the pre-dawn sky in the country's north, and could be seen from hundreds of kilometres away. The SPIRAL UFO flash lasted for about two minutes. A video was filmed by a worker at an army base. He said it SPIRAL UFO started out as a small light in the sky, but grew into a light show that seemed to disappear into a black hole. Thousands of awe-struck Norwegians bombarded the Meteorological Institute to ask what the incredible light SPIRAL UFO — that could be seen in the pre-dawn sky for hundreds of miles — could possibly be.The phenomenon has been dubbed 'Star-Gate' — as the world's top scientists and the military lined up to admit they were baffled. Russia's new nuclear-capable missile suffered another failed test launch, the defence ministry said Thursday, solving the mystery of a spectacular plume of white light that appeared over Norway. The Bulava missile was test-fired from the submarine Dmitry Donskoi in the White Sea early Wednesday but failed at the third stage, the defence ministry said in a statement. The pre-dawn morning launch coincided with the appearance of an extraordinary light over northern Norway that captivated observers. Images of the light that appeared in the sky above the Norwegian city of Tromso and elsewhere prompted explanations ranging from a meteor, northern lights, a failed missile or even a UFO.
www.ooyyo.com Norwegian authorities are investigating strange lights seen in the arctic sky. The spiraling white light was seen for several minutes on Wednesday morning. Locals say the light appeared to be bigger than the moon. Thousands of Norwegians bombarded the Meteorological Institute to ask what the light could possibly be. Some feared it could have been a meteor, others a black hole and there were those who thought it could have been aliens. But defence experts in Olso suggest its more likely to have been a failed Russian missile launch from the area of the White Sea. They think a rocket probably got out of control and self destructed. There's been no official comment from the Russian Military.
Ambassador James Goodby, Hoover Institution, Stanford University is a guest lecturer at the "US-Russian START Plus Arms Control Simulation" at the Monterey Institute of International Studies.
