SF Senator Leland Yee Receives Threats Over Palin Probe Read what the fax says, here is proof that these RepubliCONs/Tea Baggers/McCain & Palin supporters are all racists... The guy that leaves a message kind of sounds like Bush... State Senator Lelan Yee is receiving racially charged threats over an investigation into Sarah Palin's scheduled appearance at CSU Stanislaus. Jonas Tichenor reports. cbs5.com Apr 20, 2010 6:50 pm US/Pacific SF Senator Receives Threats Over Palin Probe SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5 / AP) ― Sarah Palin's scheduled appearance at a California university is sparking more than just controversy. A state senator who has brought attention to the deal said he has been getting hate messages. San Francisco Senator Leland Yee's office said they have received several faxes and emails with racial slurs, homophobic messages and even threats on the senator's life. His office said the messages have been sent following Yee's call for greater transparency regarding former vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin's scheduled visit to California State University Stanislaus. The Senate sergeant-at-arms is investigating the threats. Palin is scheduled to speak at a June 25 gala hosted by the foundation to mark the university's 50th anniversary. Yee has been seeking details of Palin's compensation package for several weeks. The university has repeatedly denied public records requests filed by open government group Californians Aware and The Associated Press seeking Palin-related ...

The Welcome To The NeighborHOOD project shows us how youth are part of the environmental justice movement in the Bayview/Hunters Point neighborhood of San Francisco. They have been working with artists to explore the issues in their neighborhood in order to present them to their community and beyond. Wendy Testu -Filming, Editing, Project Creator, Multimedia Artist Monica Jensen - Photographer Taylor Neaman Goudey - Lead Artist Literacy For Environmental Justice - Community Partner This video is a behind the scenes look at the work the youth have created with one of the artists, Taylor Neaman Goudey. She spent eight weeks with six youth from the non-profit Literacy For Environmental Justice (LEJ) in order to create this work. LEJ has been in the community for over ten years and has worked with youth and community members to get the PG&E Power Plant shut down. They accomplished this in 2006. Currently LEJ is building the EcoCenter next to the former PG&E site. The EcoCenter will be San Franciscos first %100 of-the-grid public building and an environmental education center. The community is also dealing with re-development and gentrification issues. The housing developer, Lennar, is building 10000 housing units on top of a Super Fund site (one of the worst toxic waste sites in the country). The graphics the youth created reflect and explore local issues. These topics guided them to show how creativity can be used to look critically at mans effects on the environment, and ...
After this match, a commentator offered this assessment: "They lied to us and said there hadn't been a public lynching in the UK in over 100 years...you wouldn't have known it if you watched the women's semifinal today." Hana Mandlikova had overlooked Chris in stating to the press her prediction that she would beat Martina Navratilova in the finals of Wimbledon. After the eagerly awaited semifinal clash was over, Chrissie said, "I think she got psyched up for the wrong match." One of the most crushing performances of Evert's career, this was a grunge match beat-down from the first point to the last. Rarely in the '83/'84 years was Chrissie's focus so unwavering and shot-making so precise. Admittedly, it was a 'mean' match.
On Tuesday March 23rd some San Francisco Board of Supervisors, community groups and local residents held a press conference on the steps of City Hall to denounce the lies and manipulations put-on Pacific Gas and Electric' mailers and television commercials over Proposition 16. Supervisors also took this time to re-iterate their commitment to Clean Power SF, which is a plan adopted in 2007 that will set San Francisco on the path to using clean renewable energy from cheaper sources.

If a concert happens and no one writes about it, did it really happen? Of course it did. But artists depend on press accounts of their work to build reputations and audience, and to get funding. As arts coverage slips off the pages of local newspapers, who documents the public work of artists? The Bay Area has a thriving classical music community; its home to more than 340 classical music organizations. San Francisco Classical Voice was created back in 1998 because founder Robert Commanday feared that cutbacks in newspaper coverage would hurt the local classical music scene. The site offers comprehensive local coverage and has become the go-to resource for finding out about artists, organizations, venues and events. Its news section consistently breaks stories and has become essential reading for anyone who cares about classical music in the Bay Area. The site offers clips of music being performed locally, program notes for upcoming concerts, access to concert ticket and dinner reservation services, and free music downloads. Writers include a mix of expert academics, journalists, and artists, who are paid for their work. The site is a 501 (c)3, supported locally by donations from foundations, corporations and individuals, and by ads and memberships, and is self-sustaining. As an example of a website covering an art form in a region where newspaper coverage has been cut back, executive producer Patricia Gessner says that Classical Voice demonstrates that more comprehensive ...

Hundreds of protesters spanned several San Francisco blocks when they marched to City Hall Wednesday afternoon, demanding Mayor Gavin Newsom reduce cuts to the Department of Public Health and other social service programs when balancing the city budget this summer.
In an effort to foster more civic collaboration and connectivity with constituents, Mayor Newsom today announced a first of its kind application that allows citizens to access the Citys 311 Call Center through Twitter, a social networking service. Instead of making a phone call, members of the public can send a short message called a "tweet" to alert the city about a pothole, or simply find out about the Citys green initiatives. To interact with SF311 go to www.sftwitter.sfgov.org. You can also follow 311 on Twitter @SF311.
The Public Press and Spot.Us team up to help cover City Hall. Help support our work.

Hank Donat and Jeff Halpern, the First Gay Grooms of San Francisco: We were greeted by a City official at the Grove Street entrance to City Hall at around 7:20 am on June 17, 2008. Hank posed for a photo in the North Light Court, where licenses would later be issued. A few minutes later, Jeff's maid of honor, Audrey Seymour, arrived at the South Light Court where she and Jeff shared a lovely something-old-something-new ceremony. A call to Supervisor Aaron Peskin confirmed he was en route. We also conducted two brief interviews, one with Barbara Taylor, the voice of KCBS radio. Hank insisted that the other, for NBC, be conducted in front of the flags of the 363rd Infantry, 91st Division - "San Francisco's Own." At 8 am, we were escorted across the Rotunda from the South Light Court to the North Light Court. There, we approached the counter, but had arrived ahead of the clerk. We waited outside of the North Light Court as couples began to line up behind us, waiting for Karen Hong Yee, Director of the County Clerk's Office. Madame Director arrived just as a huge entourage descended on the scene from another direction. Though it was reported that we had "squeaked past" the media, the truth is we simply refused to let them run us over! We were determined in our effort to provide a joyful, dignified new beginning to marriage equality in San Francisco after it was reported in the San Francisco Chronicle on June 10 that ours was the first appointment made for the historic morning ...
