Jahrhunderts Samuel Morse. "

Nestled between College Park, Hyattsville, and Edmonston, the town derived its name from the historic plantation owned by descendents of Maryland's first family. Extensive restoration throughout the town has made a trip through Riverdale Park into a delightful journey through Maryland history. Riverdale Park's Cherry Hill Cemetery, one of the few remnants of black slave life in the county, is believed to hold the graves of 12 slaves. Communications As soon as we could develop the proper technologies, humans have been attempting to communicate with each other. This documentary demonstrates how far communications technology has advanced, our dependence on this technology, and how it affects globalization. From 1843, when Samuel Morse invented the first long distance electric telegraph line to Skype hitting the market in 2005 (Bellis), communication has narrowed the distance between people. Just in the past decade, Americans have seemingly altered their expectations to the idea that we should be available to contact 24/7. A simple cell phone or Skype call can connect people on opposite sides of the globe at anytime. It seems so convenient that the people we interviewed had trouble coming up with future, better technologies. These advancements have had two opposite affects on Globalization: the digital divide and increased aid as a result of communication technology. To paraphrase the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development), the digital divide is the gap between those who can access information and communication and those who cannot. Thus, the farther industrialized countries get ahead, the farther rural areas fall behind. But the increased communication can also help give organizations such as the United Nations or World Food Bank more direct access to these countries (UN). Additionally, inventions such as mobile phones and wireless systems are more easily installed in rural areas ...
Lyrics: Mother Necessity With her good intentions, Where would this country be Without her inventions? Oh, things were rotten in the land of cotton Until Whitney made the cotton gin. Now old times there will soon be forgotten For it did the work of a hundred men. Mother Necessity, where would we be? Mother Edison worked late each night. It went well until the fading light. Little Thomas Alva Edison said, "I'll grow up to be A great inventor and I'll make a lamp to help my mommy see, Wowee! What an excellent application of electricity!" He worked hard and pulled the switch. He was smart and very rich. Mother Necessity, help us to see. Now, the mother of Samuel Morse Always sent the lad out on a horse. "Take a message to Ms. Peavy on the far side of the pike; Spread the word about the quilting bee next Saturday night!" Little Samuel started thinking of a way to send a message, Though he never met a horse he didn't like. Uh! Mother Necessity! Elias, can you help me with my sewing? Mother dear, I'll fulfill your fondest wishes. Elias, how? This machine I've made will keep your sewing really flowing. In fact, we'll keep the whole nation in stitches. Ah! Mother Necessity, where would we be? Ring me on the Alexander Graham Bell. Thank you Alexander for the phone. I'd never get a date, I'd never get a job Unless I had a telephone. Mother Necessity! "Orville, Wilbur, go outside this minute, And there continue with your silly playing! Take these plans and take those blueprints ...

The entire public domain photo records of all the known surviving photographs from the beginning in 1826 to development in 1839 through to 1853. Montaged into ten minutes with a background music of my own composition. To watch this parade of faces of people from a different time is a moving experience and best viewed in silence. However most modern people find silent viewing uncomfortable so I have blended some vocal tones electronically into a form of Gregorian chant for those that require musical accompaniment. The images begin with a photo print of a boy with a horse This was an experiment in photocopying to achieve chemical permanency. Next is Niepces Famous Window scene from his Studio. followed by his partner Daguerre's well known images. The ball starts rolling in 1839 with Robert Cornelius in his self portrait (the first Human ever on film) then a parade of photos from the first year 1840 showing mainly anonymous workers posing for up to ten minutes of stillness to catch an image. The face of Samuel Morse pops up a lot as he was one of the first brave celebrities to endure the process.Dickens Lincoln John Brown Darwin Verne and Rossini are all here at the dawn of the modern age.
