Description
Santa Esmeralda was a U.S./French disco group formed in the 1970s, which spawned a club hit in 1977 with a cover version of the song "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood". The group also scored a lesser hit with a disco version of "The House of the Rising Sun".<p>The group re-entered the popular consciousness in 2003 when it appeared on the soundtrack to the first volume of Quentin Tarantino's homage to the martial arts film genre, Kill Bill. The essential nature of the song ("Misunderstood") is Latino and flamenco disco, with strident overload of a wall of sound of guitars and horns in the interim riffs. Gomez was lead singer and is Hispano-American on Casablanca Records of Los Angeles. The group also had a minor club hit with "Beauty and the Beast."<p>...
