Ali Hussain Sabat is the former host of a popular call-in show that aired on the Beirut-based satellite TV channel Sheherazade. On the show, he answered callers' questions about the future and dispatched general advice on life questions. Under Saudi Arabia's interpretation of Islam, that's considered sorcery -- a crime punishable by death, ccording to the Islamic Shariah law. The Saudi religious police burst into Sabat's hotel room in the city of Medina in 2008 and arrested him while on a Muslim pilgrimage to the kingdom. A Saudi court convicted Sabat last year and sentenced him to death by beheading. The 46-year-old Sabat is the father of five children.

A Lebanese man sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia on charges of witchcraft is due to be beheaded this week, his lawyer said on Wednesday, urging officials and rights groups to intervene on his behalf. Last night we got news through unofficial channels that Ali Sabat would be beheaded within 48 hours, May al-Khansa, Sabats attorney in Beirut told AFP. I have since been contacting Lebanese officials, including President Michel Sleiman and Lebanons ambassador to Saudi Arabia to appeal his case. Sabat was sentenced to death in November of last year by a Saudi court for practicing witchcraft. Sabat will be beheaded in accordance with the Islamic Shariah law of the land.
