Press Release Austin Students Honor Community Leader On Mexican American Heritage Day The SF Austin High School Student Council held a program on Thursday, September 16, on Mexico's Independence Day, to honor Mexican Americans in their community. The program consisted of an essay contest, a competition to find the best neighborhood salsa and chips, music, dancing and a time to honor a Mexican American pioneer of Houston politics. This program is another example of Austin High School students doing positive things in their community. The Student Council honored Leonel Castillo, former City Councilman, and first Hispanic elected city wide as City Of Houston Controller and former Commissioner of Immigration and Naturalization for the Department of Justice. Mr. Castillo served as Commissioner under President Jimmy Carter. The event will took place in the cafeteria of the school located at 1700 Dumble, Houston TX 77023.
