"Ram Teri Ganga Maili" (literally translated into English as "Rama your Ganga has become dirty") was a hit 1985 Bollywood movie made by Raj Kapoor. This movie stars Mandakini and Rajiv Kapoor, son of the director-producer Raj Kapoor,Divya Rana, Saeed Jaffrey and Kulbhushan Kharbanda. Many believe the success of the movie was due to Mandakini's great sex appeal. Despite this, the film is also noted for its cinematography, music and well-written dialogue. Music by Ravindra Jain. Cultural allusions; According to Philip Lutgendorf, the movie is an allegory that "synthesizes classical and mythic narrative, soft-core political and social commentary (here condemning the corruption of politicians and capitalists and championing the nascent environmental initiatives of Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi). The narrative recapitulates the Abhijñānaśākuntalam story—that first appeared in the epic Mahabharata in perhaps the 3rd or 2nd century BCE and then was reworked, some six hundred years later, by the poet Kalidasa." Indian television channels are now refusing to run the promotional material for the film, Sins, ahead of its release on Friday. The director of the film, Vinod Pande, says the movie is not offensive and has refused to withdraw it. Catholics are planning a protest in Mumbai (Bombay) on Wednesday. Adults only But Mr Pande said that if the critics were to see the film they would not protest against it and would not insist on its withdrawal. He says he has no plans to cancel the film ahead of its scheduled screening on Friday. Cinema in Mumbai Mumbai will be the venue of Catholic protests "It's about forbidden love.
