The original beat for this song, "Mo Money, Mo Murder" is definitely one of my favorite songs from the 90s. This beat randomly came on yesterday and I knew I had to make a song about the S&P downgrade to it. I do my best to try to infuse the ideas of zizek into this song, discussing everything from bankrupt states, ideology, hip-hop, god's wrath, and the economy. This track will end up on Nuclear Winter 3, which will most likely be 90's themed. "Living In The End Times" is the title of Slavoj Zizek's most recent book, where he compares the economic crisis with Christian Armageddon. The book takes a look at modern capitalism, ecology, global warming, and the political sphere and offers many original insights and a few prescripitions. On this track I take it a step further to also include Beaudrillard's take on "Living in the end times," to conclude that the world ended when media & capital began taking on a life of their own, and we are literally, currently, living out a kind of post human armageddon. When the recent debate about the debt ceiling was unfolding, I thought about Zizek's take on how events are shaped by abstract factors. I knew that the fact that this debate was happening at all would do untold damage to our economy. Low and behold S&P downgraded us, so the downward spiral continues and Jayz/Kanye drop "Watch The Throne." Even though Zizek didn't actually collaborate with me, I thought I'd take a cue from Jay & Yeezy and Otis Redding that shit. Download the ...

DemocracyNow.org - In one of his first public events since being held under house arrest, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange appeared in London Saturday for a conversation with Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Žižek, moderated by Democracy Now!'s Amy Goodman. They discuss the impact of WikiLeaks on world politics, the release of the Iraq and Afghanistan war logs, and Cablegate — the largest trove of classified US government records in history. Watch Part 3 of 9: youtu.be "From being inside the center of the storm, I have learned not just about the structure of government, not just about how power flows in many governments around the world that we've dealt with, but rather how history is shaped and distorted by the media," Assange said. Assange also talks about his new defense team, as well as US Army Private Bradley Manning, the accused Army whistleblower who has been jailed for the past year. Assange is currently under house arrest in Norfolk, outside London, pending a July 12 appeals hearing on his pending extradition to Sweden for questioning in a sexual misconduct case. He has now spent six months under house arrest, despite not being charged with a crime in any country. www.intelligencesquared.com Modern radical thinker Slavoj Žižek spoke on the 1st July as part of the 'Great Minds' series, and affirmed his status as a great mind of modern philosophy and social, cultural and political theory. Starbucks, social solidarity and self-commodification were among the varied and enlightening topics touched upon by Žižek, all grounded by his interpretation of ideology and its continuing importance. One of Europe's foremost Marxist theorists, Žižek criticised modern leftist groups who, he argued, didn't really know how to cope with the upheaval of the 'sublime' moment (revelation that an assumed state of total happiness is actually nonexistent). The question of 'what happens next' has been asked since the dwindling exhaustion of modernism into postmodernism. Žižek asks us to put ideological pressure on modern life, confirming the presence of ideological symbolism even in blatant popular culture (such as two Oscar-winning films, The King's Speech and Black Swan [2010]). His manner was sometimes serious, sometimes comic and vaguely apocalyptic (he is a self confessed pessimist), which all together made for an engaging talk, dense in historical, anecdotal and political references. The combination of issues allowed the modern audience member to examine their own behaviour alongside Hegelian optimism, Freudian self-commodification and Marxist ideas of social roles, in a non 'academic' sense, referring to the purchasing of Starbucks coffee as a ...

Slovenian-born Slavoj Zizek, a postmodern philosopher and cultural critic, addresses perception, identity, and the "other" in an engaging lecture titled Fear Thy Neighbor as Thyself: Antinomies of Tolerant Reason. The lecture takes the audience on an enlightening journey through the perceptions of identity and tolerance. Hosted by The Institute for Human Sciences at Boston University on November 26, 2007.
Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Zizek, akaThe Elvis of cultural theory, is given the floor to show of his polemic style and whirlwind-like performance. The Giant of Ljubljana is bombarded with clips of popular media images and quotes by modern-day thinkers revolving around four major issues: the economical crisis, environment, Afghanistan and the end of democracy. Zizek grabs the opportunity to ruthlessly criticize modern capitalism and to give his view on our common future. We communists are back! is the closing remark of Slavoj Zižeks provocative performance. Our current capitalist system, that everyone believed would be smoothly spread around the globe, is untenable. We find ourselves on the brink of big problems that call for big solutions. Whatever is left of the left, has been hedged in by western liberal democracy and seems to lack the energy to come up with radical solutions. Not Zižek.
